This can't be called anything other than government intrusion, Why? Because people who educate their kids at home are beyond to the reach of the communist liberals. They know that HS kids are better educated with consistently higher scores than the kids educated in public schools. They have a better understanding of religion, our nation and it's history. They are way more respectful to everyone and seem to have a better thought process than kids taught in public schools.

Semper Fi !!!

The latest case of alleged government intrusion into the home comes out of Savannah, Georgia, where homeschooling parents were reported to a state agency by a social worker for the “educational neglect” of their 12-year-old daughter — who they have successfully and legally taught at their home for some time.

Without cause or warning, one social worker in northeastern Georgia contacted the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services, alerting the agency that she suspected a family of neglecting the educational needs of their preteen daughter.

Not understanding the basis of the allegations or extent of her rights as a registered homeschool parent, the mother finally agreed to meet with the intrusive social worker outside of her home in order to get a better idea of exactly what she was being accused of regarding her daughter’s education.

After a brief discussion, the homeschool mom communicated to the social worker that she would give in and allow her inside of her home so that she could observe her daughter, but the mother would not agree to let the worker conduct a private interview with her 12-year-old.

Once the Homeschool Legal Defense Association was informed about the nature and conditions of the social worker’s visit, attorneys found the situation to be highly disturbing and unusual. As a member of HSLDA, the mother was quickly told that the intrusive investigation was extremely odd and problematic for two reasons: 1) the social worker, whose duties do not transcend into the realm of education, demanded to enter the homeschool family’s home and 2) the social worker aggressively pressed the family to allow her to observe the mother homeschool her daughter.

The rationale the social worker gave the homeschool mother for such an intrusive investigation was that she merely desired to ensure that her daughter was “getting the best education.” No concerns or allegations of misconduct or lack of learning were given to warrant any government invasion into her home.

As a matter of fact …

Once HSLDA Senior Counsel Dewitt Black gave the Savannah mom legal consultation as to how she should deal with the social worker moving forward, he proceeded to issue the government agent a letter clearly stating the homeschool parents’ constitutional rights to educate their own. He began by notifying the overreaching state employee that both parents were implementing a home study program for their daughter that was in direct compliance with Georgia state law.

Backing up his assertion, Black continued to lay out the facts pointing to legal documentation proving that the mother had already filed a mandatory declaration of intent for homeschooling, which she had submitted to the Georgia Department of Education at the commencement of this year’s fall semester. Also included in Black’s letter was a statement verifying that both parents were in full compliance with various other sections of the law by instructing their child above and beyond the minimum 4.5 hours per day, 180 days per year for the fall and spring semesters.

Black further notified the social worker that choosing to continue her invasive investigation would be a violation of the homeschool parents’ constitutional rights.

“The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution protect[s] the family from any unreasonable searches or seizures, such as entry into their home would involve,” Black stated to the social worker in his letter.

On second thought …

In just a matter of days after Black had send his letter to the social worker on behalf of the homeschool parents, the mother received a phone call from the state employee, who took an extreme change of course.

The social worker made it clear to the Savannah homeschool mom that a visitation to her home to investigate whether her daughter was receiving satisfactory home education was no longer necessary. Furthermore, the social worker also changed her tone — and apparently her perspective on homeschooling, as well.

“I think you’re doing a good job,” the social worker expressed to the homeschool mom in her phone conversation.

Before the conclusion of the phone call, the social worker let the home educator know that she was officially drawing the investigation to a close.

Oh yes, education, children and their well-being is sooooo boring. It's just SO much easier to send a kid to school, then that parent can get 'ME' time.
YAYYYYY selfish adulthood!
Who gives a crap if kids are educated, as long as they pass those pesky proficiency tests every few years, right? And it's cool that some teachers teach FOR the proficiency and only the proficiency tests too, right? After all, it isn't as though children are the future in every way from protecting our futures to sustaining our bloodlines to choosing our own individual elderly care.
I've been home schooling for 7 years and cases like this are more frequent than you think and not one in 100 hits the alleged "news".
We each choose how seriously or how carelessly we educate our kids and I've chosen the hands-on, all-in method that home schooling provides.
Make your own choices but respect mine too.
In case you don't know, here's a couple of quick stats: Public school kids average 50th percentile on 12th grade proficiency tests. Home schooled kids (when neither parent has attended even one day of college) average 83rd percentile on these same independently proctored tests.
I won't bore you with the stats where one or both parents have a college degree, because, well you know, it's only YOU that matters in this world, it's cool.
Many more facts are available but wouldn't want to bore you. Go back to sleep and keep getting more entitlements. Enjoy those bread and circuses. While they last.

Very well stated. Our Children and Grand kids are our's and their future. They are the ones who will be in charge of running this nation after we are gone. Things are so different in today's world then it was when I was a kid. Most of us want better for our kids then we had it as children but the parents of today are becoming removed from the responsibility of overseeing that our children are educated to the best of their ability and to become responsible productive citizens. Today's education system is about indoctrination, demoralization, and the advancement of Islam.

MOST Conservatives are. We revere life.

MOST liberals favor abortion, even though they try to sugar coat it by calling it "Women's Health", as if pregnancy were a disease.

By the way, did you know when Margaret Sanger started what was to become Planned Parenthood, almost all the slaughter houses were in Black neighborhoods, in an attempt to control the Black population?

Wow, what a good comeback. Schooling has nothing to do with whether someone is liberal or not but I'm glad you couldn't think of any kind of comeback except that. Looks like someone doesn't have any "thought process" and has to make it into a political comment. I don't know what kind of "self employment" you have but not everyone can do that. I'm a single parent who takes care of her child with no "entitlements." I work and pay my bills without help from anyone else.
Maybe you should post this in the politics forum since that's what you want it to be.

My Kids were schooled in a Christian school and I busted my a** 7 days a week in a hay truck to pay the bill.I didn't home school because I didn't think myself qualified to do so and I wanted them to be better educated than myself. They are!!

My Brother on the other hand home schooled his kids and they all turned out outstanding.

In today's public schools it damn sure does make a difference. The majority of teachers in the public school system are liberals. Most of them want Common Core to be the norm throughout the public schools in the United States, this is what hitler wanted for Europe when he wanted to take over the planet
.
Talk about thought process you have yourself marked as a liberal, that alone says it all about your thought process. To me liberalism is a mental disorder!

I didn't say anything about a political comment,"you did", but if you want to have a political debate bring it on, the only ammo I need if truth and facts.

I've been self employed for most of my working life from being a truck driver to a tile setter but I always managed to feed my family and send my kids to the best school I could afford. It was my responsibility as a parent to give my children the best possible chance to make a good life for themselves.

I do have to give credit where credit is due. I know it must be tough to raise a kid by yourself and to do it without outside help say volumes about your character.

Take a good look around you and see if this country is going where you want your child to grow up!! It starts with a good sound education!

Here is something that you can chew on:

Having grown up in communist China during Chairman Mao Zedong’s Cultural Revolution, Lily Tang Williams of Parker, Colorado, says the Common Core national standards being imposed on America’s public education system scare her.

She came to the United States from China to further her law degree. But after a time, she decided she loved the freedoms and opportunities that America provided and decided not to go back. She now has three children. One of her two sons was just graduated from the Air Force Academy and the other is working full time and going to school part time. Her 15-year-old daughter is a sophomore in high school. In the midterms, she ran for a seat the Colorado Legislature as a Libertarian.

Recently, she decided to educate herself about Common Core. She says there are things about it that remind her of her education growing up in China. She tells EAGnews that her number one concern is the data collection, the data mining, of children and their parents.

“That’s what we had in China…every child will have a file, actually every citizen in China has a so-called ‘personnel file.’ And this ‘personnel file’ will document everything. When you are in school, they document your family political class, your gender, your age, your home address, your grades, you behaviors, political correctness. So everything is in that file.”

Common Core encourages such data collection. Jane Robbins of the American Principles Project says schools implementing the Core are increasingly conducting surveys to acquire very personal information about students. It’s a means of getting state and federal funding. She says the surveys are not directly related to Common Core.

But she says, “It’s all part of an educational progressive mindset. [Educational progressives] have got to have every school doing the same standards and ultimately with the same curriculum. And [they’ve] got to collect data on anything and everything because otherwise how can they know what’s effective and what’s not effective.”

Robbins says they’ve got to know everything in order to control everything.

Williams says the personnel files in China follow a person throughout his or her life and exerts a lot of control over individuals, where they can live and where they can work. She says she doesn’t want to see the same thing happen in this country.

Williams is also very concerned about the Common Core curriculum and standardized testing. She says the ‘Advance Placement U.S. History’ course, for one thing, is worrisome because they’ve taken out a lot of the American exceptionalism, information about the Founding Fathers and capitalism is only mentioned three times. Entrepreneurship is gone.

“So basically what they teach our kids is basically the leftist agenda and focus on what they want your kids to learn,” she says. “And that really worries me because I came to this country because of the Constitution, the rights, the values, individual liberties….that sounds like music to me because I never had those in China.

“But now they’re going to teach our kids not to focus on those individual liberties and American exceptionalism, and capitalism and free market…and they’re going to teach another kind, leftist agenda that is like a garbage agenda.

“Haven’t we learned from the past that communism and socialism don’t work? We’re in trouble because children are our future. If they control our education of our children, they will control this country’s future.”
