I'm a moderate who is an unaffiliated voter...an Independent.

So I'm open to dating Democrats, Republicans, Green Party members, Socialists, and even Communists!

The cool thing with being an Independent is that I'm flexible in who I date in terms of their politics, and it helps me to be open to a variety of political candidates and viewpoints!

I consider myself a moderate and independent, I can laugh at both sides.

I could, because I am mature, and sane. I probably would not bother trying, though, because most other people are not that sane, or mature. If you think that you, and your SO, can manage it, go for it.

It depends on if both can take it all litely and not press the issue's all the time...and accept their differences in this.

However some follow their politics with their way of life, and if that presents both in being too much opposite on many things, important things...then you might not be compatible enough in general.

So...the potential is there anyway.

We had to debate that slavery was right!!!
I didn't study any of it...my partner did...

i got a 100%
he got a 85
our two competitors got 80's

after it was all over the teacher made me come back up and he told the class that he knew i didn't study but that i argued so well that they all believed me!!!
i had won the debate - not with my facts - but with the ability to show their facts in a different way...

But, so far, I have never heard my political opposites be able to make their points without calling people names and stuff.

A person who can debate either side of an issue is one who is capable of looking at things from more than one perspective, and understanding that there are valid points on each "side" of most issues. That's the only type of person worth discussing issues with.

"Worth," of course, is an opinion question. To a person actually seeking to expand his perspective, another person playing devil's advocate even if he doesn't necessarily agree with the side he's arguing assists in that process. In fact, you can often learn more from a clinical assessment of the issues than you can from a passionate person who "just knows what he knows" or "can't cite you statistics, but that's how I feel". To me, that's when discussion time is wasted; no one learns anything.

I actually think that this is the reason so many people say that "debating" politics and other issues doesn't have any effect or change anyone's mind. Changing someone's mind, or even getting them to see both sides, requires minds on both sides that are open to considering the other's points and responding to them, not just spouting an emotion-based opinion.

Wtf are you rambling about you incessant noodge.

Spouting off some platitude about the ideals of civil debate which is not, nor has it ever been, the issue makes it obvious you just simply enjoy hearing yourself talk.

The issue I raised is about being with someone who will argue for no other reason than to argue, her depth of knowledge or lack thereof on the subject matter notwithstanding.

You are that person.

Yeah, you have to be mentally deficient to be a Republican. It's a requirement. If you have a fully functioning brain they kick you out for thinking for yourself.
