This area is the peach bed. There used to be three of them but one died last year.
This is the first time in almost 8 years that this bed has been tilled.

from what I have seen of orchards on tv. there is apparently a proper way, and time to prune fruit trees, for maximum production. but I am not familiar with it.

OP ... What plans do you have in mind to control soil erosion after all this tilling you are engaged in?

Everything you see tilled is stuff that I brought in over the years.
The only erosion that I have experienced was the very first winter after having the bulldozer work done. Since then all of my place has been added to year after year. You see how thick and green all the grass and weeds are!!!
These upper beds are all going to be planted with wildflowers and various cut flowers etc.
I also hide vegetables all through them.
People get weird when they spot tomatoes in a flower bed for some reason?
Also, this is california...you do know we are in a bit of a water shortage right now???
