How likely are both the Royals and Giants to return to the world series in 2015? Um...very nearly an impossibility--which I regard as a good thing.

Key to question was a yankee who played with ruth and wore a single digit number and it was not Joe D who was once married to Monroe a blonde actress and wore #5. ..durocher played for yanks, never managed them and most of his managing career wore #2...Lorraine Day was a blonde actress..

I believe hamilton lives with that tragedy tossing a ball back to a fan who fell to his death...and an easy fix was returning to his past. He had and was a talent and only can get back to present with good rehab to flush his thinking...but it's hard when it repeats...

RIP Minnie Minoso!

Former White Sox great Minnie Minoso was once struck by a pitch and homered in the same at bat, a strange feat considering you're supposed to take first base after being hit. He told reporters the story to illustrate his aggressive hitting style. In a minor league game, Minoso turned into a pitch that struck him. The umpire refused to give him the base. Minoso hung in and homered later in the same at bat. After he rounded the bases, the umpire asked if he was happy with the way things turned out. “Give me my first base the first time,” Minoso told the ump.
In an era where pitchers hit batters for encroaching on their territory, Minoso dug in and crouched low, limiting the size of the strike zone. His cavalier stance helped him to a .298 career batting average, with 1,023 RBIs. Crowding the plate and being one of only a handful of blacks in the major leagues made him a target for stray pitches. He was plunked a total of 192 times in his career. In 10 of his 17 seasons he led the league in the number of times being hit.
Minoso was the ninth black player in the major leagues, and first for the White Sox, arriving in 1951. He was the first publicly acknowledged Cuban ball player in Major League Baseball. His speed on the base pads earned him the nickname “the Cuban Comet.” Minoso spent 13 full seasons and part of four others in the major leagues spanning from 1949 to 1980. He was also a three time Gold Glove winner, despite the fact that the award didn’t exist until he was 35 years old. He was elected into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame in 1984 and the World Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990.
RIP

I'll be happy if the Twinkies can make 500. We should have a decent rotation and they keep saying our minor league talent is nearly ready. New manager so expectations are higher than they should be. Hughes, Santana ... just with them we ought to be better and in a weak division it will probably take less than 90 wins to take the division.

The Cards DO have the best organization! The media hates their pitching and their bench and their hitting and their bullpen BUT who makes the playoffs just about every year, has been competitive every season for the last half century and always seem to be competing for the World Series? The Cards. The media doesn't like them, but they always seem to be a good pick for the World Series.

driver, as a lifetime Cardinal fan, and player in their minor league organization once upon a time, thank you for the kind words about the red birds. I think the recent Cardinal success is because they have the best defensive catcher in baseball with Molina and he handles the pitching staff better than any catcher I have ever seen. When he finally started hitting in the past few years it just added icing on the cake. My biggest concern right now is the Cardinal ace Wainwright who might not be ready for opening day because of a stomach strain from lifting weights and his pitch count will be limited this year to begin with. Fortunately the Cardinals have a lot of good young arms which I hope will show up.

Spring training should last for two weeks MAXIMUM! Teams should know what they have to bring to the party by then to play baseball for real! Of course this would hurt the economy in Florida and Arizona if this were to happen since many of the old retired people living in these two states travel from town to town daily staying in hotels and eating in restaurants just to see live baseball if you want to call this circus baseball with many games ending in a 5 to 5 tie like the Yankees game yesterday.

That Yankees loss to the Phillies today might keep them out of the playoffs.
A lot of spring training games end in ties. I guess 9 innings is all you get with the price of those tickets.

I wouldn't want you to miss a single pitch of spring training baseball so put a bucket on one side of your chair and a box of Twinkies on the other side of your chair.
Speaking of Twinkies, I guess Erik and goseahawks are history until the next NFL season arrives. They sure weren't history last year at this time.

I believe yanks believe andy took PEDs because it was used to heal an injury but i think Clemens had something to do with that. I think my # 00 should be retired first...andy was a good yankee on the field but he and posada numbers will be retired. Thank goodness bernie williams number 51 is being retired...i think yanks should retire paul O'Neill #21 but wont because he did not come up from yanks farm but reggie played just 5 yrs and his 44 is retired yet george gave him name warrior/ O'Neill won more rings then reggie did with yanks....posada imo number should not be retired yet some think he can make hof...not me...BOTTOMLINE YANKS do weird things since george died...today cashman said there should never be another captain to replace jeter...one day someone will be jeter like and yanks allowed cano to get away who could field betta then jeter and will probably hit and have betta numbers then jeter ever had...i think jeter earned respect but there were betta clubhouse guys then jeter was...like tino Martinez starting in 1996 who replaced donnie baseball, last captain before jeter...

Good Answer! Yes, the Yankees do some weird things since George left us like not winning World Series championships like they did during and before his watch. We will never know but I think if George was still around Cashman would have been told to turn in the keys a long time ago. There will never be another Jeter but there will be another captain I believe when Cashman is long gone.

enard, I think before that happens we will see things that are already being talked about with sponsors on jerseys or caps because professional sports has become big business more than the true team games and loyalty that it use to be. Just look at the different sponsors the professional golfers, tennis players, and other sports are wearing to advertise products. NASCAR has done this on their race cars since their birth. Sports has become all about the almighty dollar much more than winning championships. Rather than retiring numbers in the future they might be retiring logos like McDonalds, Exxon, Dell Computers, etc.

Sorp, I know that Brian Cashman is not the brightest bulb on the tree with some of the deals he has made and attempted to make but please tell me he is not this stupid:
MLB.com lists the top 5 Yankees on their farm in this order:
1/ Luis Severino, Right Handed Pitcher
2/ Gary Sanchez, Catcher
3/ Eric Jagielo, 3rd Baseman
4/ Ian Clarkin, Left Handed Pitcher
5/ Aaron Judge, Outfielder
MLB.com is reporting that after the deal failed with the Cubs trying to get left handed pitcher Cole Hamels from the Phillies the Yankees have offered all 5 of their top prospects to the Phillies for Hamels and the Phillies are strongly considering the offer.
My point is this: If this deal goes through and Hamels is a BUST in New York this will leave the Yankees with a weak farm system at the top. What do you think? I don't think Hamels is worth that much.

I dont think its all top prospects but one i could see in a deal is the catching prospect and 3rd base prospect not all five...hamels is owed mucho money but if yanks take his contract the deal can't be all prospects imo...the phillies need to rebuild totally...and yanks have what they need some prospects other teams are not offering...arod 2-2 today...lol...he beats the shift on right side...

Good answer once again! I just quoted to you what MLB.com wrote this morning and they wrote all 5 top prospects. I know a good left handed pitcher is a valuable asset for the home team to have in Yankee Stadium but not at this cost.
