I prefer revolvers to DAO semi autos but that's just my personal opinion.
My favorite is charter arms bulldog (44 special) for CCW
And I love my ruger blackhawk around home (357 mag 6 &1/2 bbl).
A revolver gives up capacity but will fire any power load from low power wadcutter to full power heavy JHP.

I'd check out the Ruger SR 9.
Lousy trigger pull. The SR-9-C was supposed to be better, but I can't say first-hand. I looked up some reviews & saw everybody was having the same problem. One fellow said to strip it down, soak it in hot water, dry it off then spray it with lubricant .... and THEN remove the magazine safety. Made more sense to me just to find an old Taurus 92.

I haven't tried the SR9 but a friend has one and says he loves it.He also has a LC9 he is happy with.I have a SR45 that shoots as good as anything I have shot.I have heard of some complaints with the trigger pull on the SR line and some sent their guns back to Ruger to be fixed.Ruger fixed the problem and sent the guns back....No charge.

Good to know about Ruger's service. To answer the OP, I can't remember ever hearing anybody say a Glock was a POS. Didn't some special forces carry Glock 17's? That's more than enough of a recommendation for me.

I bought a glock 19 gen 4. It's a nice pistol. Here in New York the laws are strict so it's hard to find a place to shoot without joining a club. That's my next step. Thanks for the replies.

How about state Wildlife Management Areas? Best place in Florida to shoot for free.

The SR9 and SR9c have exactly the same lockworks, so whoever told you the SR9c was better does not know what he is talking about. The only difference between the two guns is the "c" is the compact version. More compact frame, shorter slide and (obviously) barrel.
MAKE SURE THE GUN IS UNLOADED! Then field strip it. Further disassembly is not necessary and not recommended unless you are a professional gunsmith. There may be some dirt inside the gun. Blow it out with compressed air if you can. You don't need a ton of pressure. Then, with a spray can, use a TINY AMOUNT of good quality gun oil. RemOil works well. Try to get some in the harder to reach places. Using an absorbent cloth, wipe off any excess oil you see. Allowing the gun to sit, disassembled, IN A SECURE AREA, on an old towel will allow any excess oil to drip off. Reassemble the gun. Work the slide and dry fire it several times. THIS WILL NOT HARM THE GUN! If the trigger is still rough, have your dealer send it back to Ruger. Their customer service is great.
The SR series are all striker fired, like Glocks. A striker fired gun will have a different trigger pull than a single or double action semi-auto. That's just the nature of the beast. I have handled dozens of SR's and have never found a bad one, but anything is possible.

Forgot to mention, when dry firing, do so with the unloaded magazine fully inserted. Dry firing without the mag is NOT recommended.
