Players drafted before Mike Trout in the baseball draft. Hmmm...I would imagine some scouts got fired.

Trout been pretty good. The Twinkies should have drafted him and he could be starring with Sano this year.

New Jersey native Mike Trout could have played much closer to home had it not been for the Los Angeles Angels selecting him with the 25th pick in the 2009 MLB Draft .
As ESPNNewYork's Andrew Marchand wrote, Damon Oppenheimer, the Yankees vice president of amateur scouting, was "infatuated" with Trout (and given what the outfielder has done since arriving in the majors, it's pretty understandable why).
Trout was No. 2 on the Yankees' draft board and general manager Brian Cashman hoped he'd drop to 29:
"They felt their scouts were more on Trout than other teams, which gave them some hope he would slip to 29. They even had an area scout, Matt Hyde, who personally coached Trout so they had genuine, firsthand knowledge of Trout's attitude. It was all there for a monumental choice.
"Most major league clubs did not value Trout's potential as much as the Yankees did. The first 24 picks were made and Trout wasn't one of them. The Yankees, five picks away, watched in their Tampa office draft room, growing a bit more optimistic. Finally, at the 25th pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Angels nabbed Trout and, it appears, landed a future Hall of Famer."

I hope Donovan Tate was not number 1 on the Yankee draft board. Ken Hrbek? The Twins drafted him very late and only as a local courtesy. Cal Ripken? Every team passed on him at least once. Um, the Twins took Lenny Faedo in the 1st round of the Cal Ripken draft.
