Ok ok it was just the hookup Current Events / Politics forum..
Am I crazy or is the Republican Party completely made up of Right wing crazies?
I swear No matter what I read of see on cable, the right thinks our whole world's problems are caused by Liberals. They are so insistent I am actually questioning my own sanity.
Since when did liberals get such a horrid reputation? Or were they always hated? And why?
A buddy sent me this forum. I'm hoping I am not going to find out I'm now in just another wing of hell.. Suited up and prepared for a bashing...

When you have no alternative program to offer, you start calling names like a bully. The Republican Party is a bully. Like any bully they need to be confronted head on.

I'll go back because I think it's important to stand up to bullies, but it's great to get a break from that sort of constant negativity. I haven't seen it here yet but then I haven't seem but one or two threads so far.

By the way why is it so much slower over here than over in current events? Is it that there aren't many liberals on this site?

Boo, all I can tell ya is that there are other like minded people, its just that these forums are mostly made up of the people that vote republican....white, anglo-saxon protestant, older people that have had limited exposure to different people and ideas.Just take solace in the fact that even in bad years for democratic thinking people such as 2000, that 50.1% of the overall population thought the way we do.
The demographics of the United States is changing, with people of color gaining in population, and for the most part this is a good thing. We're never going to change the thinking of the narrow minded even with facts - its going to take this demographic change. But rest assured that a hundred years from now, this country is going to be a lot more different than it is today. Guess our lot in life now is to live amongst the unthinking.

The republican party is composed of mostly hillbillies. They're ignorant, uneducated, stupid and full of hate. They have to have somebody to blame for their miserable little lives. That would be the liberal progressive thinkers in this country. The republican party wants to keep them that way so that it can continue to exist. I engage in that forum cause I like to stir things up. Never could keep my mouth shut when I see and read stupidity. Who was it that said the biggest threat to a democracy is an uneducated and uninformed populace? Their problems are all self inflicted and they're to ignorant to even realize it.

The one thing the Republicans are good at is dividing the country. It's the only way they win elections. As was said above, the demographics of the country are changing and as the right wing nuts die off we should see at least a moderate move to the left within the next 20 years.

The GOP is not made up entirely of such inbreeds; those running things "behind the scenes" are just actively courting them because they are easy to manipulate. It's the language of those who would consolidate power by dividing the populace with the constant shrill screeching of "Beware of (insert popular/current name of bogeyman here)!" What names has the bogeyman had over the years?
In the post-Civil-War-South of the 1860's-1880's, it was "Carpetbaggers" and "N**ger Lovers;"
In post WWI Europe, it was "Anarchists" and "Revolutionaries;"
In 1930's-1940's Nazi Germany, it was "Jews" and "Bolsheviks;"
In 1950's-1980's America, it was "Commies" and "Hippies;"
Nowadays, it's "Liberals," "Homosexuals," and "Socialists." One of the ironies is that lately, Neocon/Populists keep referring to President Obama and other Progressives as Nazis/Fascists, yet their fear-mongering tactics would make Stalin, Hitler or Mussolini quite proud.

Thats interesting idle.
I don't quite know who is who. It's seems like the anger is in 3 groups or 4?. Those that supported Bush, then those that Support Ron Paul, then the Christian right conservatives. Are the tea bag folks yet another group.. ugh
Are these all like minded people or do each group have their own particular beef with this president and are teaming up? They all seem to sound alike in their anger. And now it seems like they are teaming up even if they don't agree with eachother, just to bring down this particular president.
Why do they think this president is going to bring down america? I don't see that at all.

I sure wish I understood it. It seems like some folks are terrified of life as it really is. And because of that I fear their anger that it isn't the way they want it. And the longer I am exposed to their anger I feel that thick negativity. I have to snap myself out of it and take a break. I just can't understand living life being so damn concerned with everyone else's life decisions... oh well I don't think I can possibly understand it.

I can only speak from what I have personally observed from Southerners, but the groups in the South that predominately vote republican are as follows:
1) Christian Conservatives - Got to have school prayer, the 10 Commandments displayed in
government buildings and No Abortions.
2) Ole Money Republicans - No unions and we still believe in the Southern Aristocracy.
3) Libertarians - No need for government except to operate a military.
4) Ignorant Rednecks - I don't care that I'm economically disadvantaged, as long as
I'm better off than the Black Man.
5) Racists - I hate everyone who ant white like me, and I'm either oblivious, or I
don't care that thousands of Alabamians died in WW2 fighting the Axis Powers.
All the above groups overlap and its sometimes hard to pigeon hole any one individual into anyone group since share values and opinions are intertwined amongst all the groups.

Great categorization. I live in central TX, and can tell you that the majority fall into one of those groups. Honestly, I have to bite my tongue almost in half several times a week. There's always one Bible-thumping idiot in the group, trying to tell everyone what "the Bible says".....very, very frustrating at times. I might not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier when it comes to politics, but I know right from wrong, and their views are definitely NOT right!

Lol, that's funny! You should check my post history and watch how my respectful, thoughtful responses degenerated over time into sarcasm, lol. And still, with the exception of poet who is a disgusting pig, I try to be somewhat diplomatic. I admit I don't take much time with my replies now though, because they won't bother to actually think about it.
I'll go back because I think it's important to stand up to bullies, but it's great to get a break from that sort of constant negativity. I haven't seen it here yet but then I haven't seem but one or two threads so far.

Do NOT let them chase you out. They rely upon that. We had some very intelligent posters there a while back, but since they were new and from *gasp* Canada, they were attacked unmercifully and left in disgust.
