Yes, I make most of my living as a writer. Someone else said they used to write for publication and now just wrote for themselves--it was exactly the opposite for me. Years ago, I realized that as long as I wasn't writing for publication, I'd have to do something else for money and that would continue to cut into my writing time. I started selling my work and writing for hire so I wouldn't have to put in a forty hour week doing something else.

These are short story projects I have started on DH. If you can please read and comment on them in the Writer Forum.

Blue Jean Love Story - it's completed in several parts waiting for final edits
Religious Love Story - part on religion forum and here, almost finished, about PTSD vet and
St Augustine

Detective Story - way, way back, incomplete, requires rewrite for clue dropping
Ghost Story - short, quick IMO gem

The Strange Occurrence at the Mariposa Art Museum - currently finishing, light-hearted adventure

It takes a lot of sacrifice to write creativity. My aim is for 8 good stories for a book collection by mid-year. I do see other projects along the way. I have posted lots of poetry.

Gamer,

I've joined several writer's forums the pass week. Some have been good. But I need to start one on my own where writer's can help each other with constructive criticism and also where the writing can disappear when they seek to get their work published - none of the others offer that possibility. THis means it will be entered by password but it can have features and eventually become a cool online magazine. PM me if you are interested. Others interested, please PM me.

I have poems on my website mysupersongs.weebly.com. They're all about things I've actually been through. I've been writing since I was 12, and already have been published dozens of times. Writing was always something that helped me cope with things going on in life. And now I'm currently working on a book on my life story. So I hope to find someone with similar interests, and especially has a strong passion for writing.

I love writing. I get most of my ideas from day dreaming. I'm kind of a scatter brain so sometimes what I write about one event doesn't connect to another so I have to come up with the middle which is the fun part for me.

I too have been writing since third grade. Currently working on the novel I started in third grade. I've had poems published but no long works finished/published yet.
I think it is something that is as natural as any other talent. One can learn technique, even minus talent but it can be natural also. And the drive HAS to be natural. You can't make someone write well if they don't want it.

Writing a book series and it's really taking shape. I will send my manuscript for the first book to agents once I'm done. If I can't find one who loves my story then I'll self publish and go from there. It's been my plan all a long. People always ask me "will you put me in your story" and "can I read it?" I decided once my manuscript is out I will share it only with a small group of people I trust.

As a published writer, I have to say that the road is hard. You must be able to deal with rejection. Writing has taught me all about rejection so I am too beat up when out ooking for females!! LOL Good luck on your project. When its published, please tell me what it is, and I will buy it. Love to read other people's work. Brian

Thank you Brian I figured as much and so it's one of the things I know I'll have to deal with. My biggest challenge so far is writing it and proff reading it. I'm no English major my grammar and spelling are not perfect but I really love my story. I meet a famious author who told me, worry about nothing just write it get it out of you then figure it all out later. So I'm doing just that.

Seems these days many young people cannot read yet alone take the time to write.

Texting has replaced writing and is the worse way to show creative expression.

When you try to write a blog or want to discuss a topic in a forum people get cut down, and the trolls spread hate...

What is going to happen in the years to come? No books, no written communication and a race of people who react instead of acting on something with hate and assuming.

Here is a Poem I wrote Early spring this year, let me know if you like it.

"Beautiful Hummingbird"

Late Spring, early summer, Vibrant botanical bloom.
Warm days and gentle breezes, lazy days ahead Loom.
The World’s smallest Bird has appeared in the corner of my sight.
I marvel at its grace, its iridescent colors, methodical stable flight.
Never flying aimlessly but focused, changing direction at will.
Smart, they memorize each flower and when its nectar will refill.
Drawn to the most vibrant of colors, their favorite, the Love color, Red.
They cross pollinate visited flowers, by rubbing each with their tiny head.
Of course you know what I speak of, by each description, each word.
Indeed the Loveliest of small flying creatures, the Beautiful Hummingbird.

Yes, I make my living as a writer. I am the opposite of the poster who said he used to write to be published and now just writes for himself--for years, I just wrote for myself and then I realized that as long as I didn't publish, the need to do other stuff to make money would keep cutting into my writing time.

I've written a word, or three.

Birth of a Resentment

A young man came and sat beside me and proceeded to stare off into space too.
I looked at him a few times and saw that he seemed to be staring off into MY space.
Because I am quite a bit older and he looked in pretty good shape I just got up, went over to MY space and put my arms around it and went to place it into the back of my truck. Then I thought I should teach him about manners so I went over to him and said, "Why were you staring into MY space?"
He seemed genuinely surprised and replied, "Oh, sir I wasn't staring into YOUR space."
I said, "Yes you were, I saw you."
He shook his head and pointed to where MY space was and said, "Sir, I was staring through YOUR space to MY space just beyond."
Well, you can imagine how embarrassing that was for me. I quickly apologized and went and got the space back out of my truck and put it back.
When I went to sit down and stare into MY space again I had a disquieting feeling that something was wrong. I was uncomfortable and wondered if I had been deceived.
Was he actually staring into his own space beyond mine or was he actually staring into MY space? It was difficult to tell for certain, and he gave no indication either way. He just sat there with a pleasant empty look on his face and stared ahead.
The more I thought about it the less I seemed to enjoy staring into MY space and became preoccupied with whether or not HE was actually trespassing by staring through my space or maybe lying and actually staring into MY space all along.
This really started to irritate me. I would glace over and soon I felt he was mocking me - staring blankly AND enjoying it. He was aggravating me and was so good at hiding it that it was almost imperceptible. Oh yes, he was a good actor - staring into MY space and pretending to be staring into his own just over there.
It was starting to make me angry and I was getting sick of looking over at that ape like face with no expression on it. Staring blankly - goading me on - trying to fool me - just taunting me.
Soon my discomfort grew from irritation to anger and from anger to rage and I had all but forgotten to even stare into MY own space.
I was thinking of a way to sabotage him but couldn't seem to find a way to prove he was staring into MY space and so an assault was not really appropriate.
He was lying but I couldn't prove it so again I was trapped. Jeeeze this guy was good - what a swine - what a piece of work - so smug - staring like that - not even a hint of wrongdoing - boy he was good.
Well - just as I was about to tell him what a clever rat he was - he left.
I looked back and couldn't tell if it was his or MY space he had been gawking at - NOW I couldn't even tell the difference between his and MINE. They seemed to blend into each other and I couldn't separate them.
So I hollered after him, "Aren't you going to take YOUR space with you?"
He said, "Oh, no thank you sir, you may have it - I have some space at home."

NOW my question: WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE ABOUT THAT !!!??????

Planning on publishing if I ever get over this resentment.

Interesting, pretty good. I wonder when and if his space becomes like one with your space and you actually may have an individual fighting with himself to no avail. It's just a thought - good writing.

I'm putting up the last part (five) of my Civil War (started as a Christmas) story tonight in the wee hours. Hope you can read and comment.
