I have a great friend who dated a guy with gambling problems. He was so into gambling he began to steal things from her and others.

Addiction..is addiction....some people are just born with those type of personalities...they can be addicted to anything..most of the time its not good things...but there are many forms of addiction...drugs, alcohol,gambling, sex, work,exercise,shopping,eating...etc..and the list goes on...

No but used to watch my mother-in-law gamble thousands of dollars away. Watched her one time lose 10k in about 2 hours.

Merce that is true of almost any addiction...drugs...sex...shopping...etc...money will be gone and it will get all twisted around...and you will be lied to...

Brother lost everything gambling.
Pawned all my electronics.
Only way to get them back would have been to file charges.I didn't.
12 years now still won't pay me.In denial.
Have not spoken to him since.
Worst Addiction there is.
No limit to how much they can lose.

More experience than I would ever have thought. Married her not knowing. She lied, cheated and stole until there wasn't enough left for her to stay. I learned no matter how hard I worked to recover, she saw it as more to spend. Gambling addiction will drain a relationship dry.

I dated a nice man who liked to gamble. I didn't feel it was a real problem, it was just something he liked to do.
BUT that being said.....it was his favorite activity to do. If we wanted to get out and go somewhere...the casion was always his first choice. I got tired of that. An hour in front of a slot machine and I am ready to go....since I rarely win anyway. But what I truly found annoying it that he always had a big roll of bills (he called his stash) to gamble with (even tho he didn't win that much), yet was SO CHEAP in other areas....dinners, gifts, clothing. There were other reasons as to why I broke up with him, but that was one of the considerations.
Bottom line....if you are uncomfortable with the situation....leave. If it bothers you now....it will become a MAJOR problem later if you stay.

Same as folks with drinking problems or drug problems. Let them go yesterday, if not sooner. It'll only come to grief and it's your heart that will lose the bet. No, he won't change if you just "love him enough". You gotta know when to hold em, know when to throw em.
