I have traveled in lots of places in the United States and the best state for me is Vermont, because the people are more European style like us in Quebec, very receptive to foreigners and friendly at the most and, the landscape of your little peace of country is awesome.
I thought i'd let you know.

You may have lived across this great land of our's (and I use the term loosely) our's being the opperative word. However, VT is one of the most backword thinking states I have ever had the unfortunate displeasure of residing. I don't know, have you ever lived in South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, NY. Conn. Pa, Montana. Maine. Utha Ect. Your premise may be a bit biased. Considering I have had the opportunity of living in Canada.Other than it's aesthetics politically it's a socialistic society. Perhaps this is why you appreciate Vt so much. I lived in NH when I asked them at the local check out counter if I the "Sin Tax" was applicable here. The teller looked at me and said,,, "Dude your in NH live free or die" No extra tax..

I have lived in Vermont all my life. Granted Burlington can be a bit difficult because of having five major colleges in one area and heavy population. We have higher taxes because we support our children better than any other state. The down side is, it is a very expensive state to live in. Yes, I am biased. I think it is a beautiful state and the people are friendly. I am a strong believer in:
If you don't like something, change it.
If you can't change it, compromise and accept it.
If you can't accept it, leave.
Complaining get you no where, action does.

Unfortunately you must first test or check your premise. It's fundamentally flawed. Your projecting your opinion based on "Feelings" not facts. Please do your "Homework" before projecting conjectures. Deal with facts about why the school taxes are so high in VT. It has little or nothing to do with the quality of education provided. There is no tax base, to support the overabundance of schools scatterd about a state with the population of a small city. I appreciate your allegiance to the state. However, you would be better served reading the qualitative, quantitative, empirical truth surrounding VT schools.

Fair enough Catch.
I love the beauty, the four seasons, maple syrup, the people.
It is my home, where I grew up, where I was born, where I will probably die.
I don't know any other place.
Of course it deals with feelings. That is what Michel is saying. "Like" and "nice" are not facts but how he feels.
I am happy in Vermont!

WildFlower,
I appreciate and moreover, respect your allegiance to your "Motherland" . However, your window to the world is your own. If you live in a microcosom that you yourself control, than my words would be a mute point. Unfortunately, we live in a society that local and national government dictates what our happiness shall be. Rendering my opinion a moot one. Happiness is an inalienable right. Provided to all Americans. All I am asking you and yours to do is observe what our constitution decrees.
If VT falls to socialisim, our Constitution means nothing.
Respectfully, Joseph

Dear Joseph,
Maybe I live in a small little world. I do see the world only through my eyes as do you. I am, by standards, a poor woman yet I have everything that makes me happy. I have housing, food and medical coverage in Vermont. I am very grateful for this.
I am aware of what is going on around me but cannot grasp it quite the way you can. I have to trust the government and its leaders.
I am just a simple woman who lives a simple life but it is mine. I control my outlook on life, how I view myself, my own actions and whether I am happy with what I have.
Sincerely, Lori
