I watch a segment on a local channel here about plants and trees and today
the guy mentioned with the hot temps here this summer to prune your tomato
plants but he didn't say how to prune them. I have never heard of pruning
tomato plants. Have any of you done this and how do you do it? I would like for
mine to produce as long as they will and he said this would help them.

Just like you prune anything else! You want the out growth so the main stems stay healthy, clip any foliage where it joins the stem, and clip any withered blooms or leaves. Of course make sure your pruners are clean and sharp. Prune in the evening so the plant can rest overnight, water the roots but avoid getting water on the cut stems until they heal a few days

I have heard that pruning may help during hot weather but I just continue to water the plants real well and they usually begin to thrive when the weather cools down some. Most of my tomatoes have suffered sun scald lately and I hope for better come sept.
