Well back to real guns:
I like the AK47 as an all around shoot anytime gun. I also think they are the most fun to manufacture. Ammo is still cheaper then .223.
I like an AR-15 for the modifications that are very easy to do. But mine is caliber'd to AK ammo. And I also have one in .22LR
For a reach out and touch someone it is my bolt action .308 with a 50 scope on it.
Handguns get complicated:
I like the XD-M great shooting gun and fun to shoot.
My Walther PPQ is a nice shooter too. Both are in 9mm
My fun gun to shoot and keep shooting is my Walther P-22. Cheapest ammo to shoot still.
My favorite fun gun is my .44 mag Big boy Henry. The lever action makes it very fun to shoot along with carrying a .327 Ruger revolver in a hip holster.
If I had all the ammo to shoot I would take a 3 round burst AR-15. Now that is fun but the $$$ you spend per squeeze gets to be expensive.

Well ill just go through the little list of guns I've owned.
Handguns
Bersa thunder .380 wasn't bad, but not a good ccw gun, too heavy.
Springfield XD9SC 9MM great gun to shoot and use for ccw.
Taurus PT24/7 G2 Compact .40s&w same size as the XD9SC great shooting gun and great for ccw.
Ruger LC9 w/laser max laser 9mm shoots great and its great for ccw but too thin for me.
Shotguns
H&R ultra slug hunter 12g single shot with 24" heavy rifled barrel, shoots great but realy heavy for a single shot.
J. Stevens Arms co. Single shot 12g with 28" smooth barrel. Old and lightweight but ejector had issues.
NEF pardner pump 12g with 28" smooth barrel with modified choke, 5 + 1 capacity, great shooter no issues yet.
Rifle/carbine
Mossberg 702 plinkster, nice lightweight gun, great for young kids to learn with.
High Point 4095TS .40S&W carbine with tactical stock, fun to shoot and uses handgun ammo and has a spring loaded recoil pad so you have hardly any recoil into your shoulder.
Those are the guns I've owned and liked, sorry can't pick just one as a favorite

Browning 30.06 or .270 semi auto with vari scope 3x9. 150 gr soft nose with 30.06 and 125 gr with .270.
12 ga rem 870, 3"; 22 cal semi auto rifle; browning buckmark 22 cal semi auto pistol;
I can actually hit something with a 22 cal pistol, larger bore pistols and I don't get along well. Although I am OK with the mil style .45 semi auto. Other larger bore hand guns and I do not do well together.
I also like .410 semi autos for birds and rabbits...i.e. Quail and dove; cotton tails and swamp rabbits.

In addition.....50 cal in-line Thompson center black powder rifle. I use 80 gr of pyrodex and a 240 grain hollow point with a sabo. Very, very accurate and effective out to about 100 yds. That's far enough where I hunt.

I really dig my AR. Never thought I'd say that, but it's fun. Still think the Remington 700 bolt action is the best rifle for me overall. I love wheelguns more but dig the Glocks too.

Actually the original .44 automag cases were cutdown Lake City .308 cases. The reason for using the LC cases was due to the case thickness used by LC was the best fit for their chambers.

It is a tossup between my SKS-M sporter or the Gewehr 43.
A lot people talk trash about the SKS in general, but it is a reliable gun. Personally, I feel that the 7.62×39 has much more of a punch than the 5.56×45mm. The version that I have ( The "M" model ) uses a standard AK-47 magazine ( as does the "D" model too. ).
My other favorite is the Gewehr 43 ( still has the original 4x scope too! ) that my great-grandfather brought back from WWII. The problem with the Gewehr is finding affordable 8mm Mauser ammunition. I like the feeling and the accuracy, however, whenever I do get the chance to shoot with it, I always feel guilty about shooting it. Part of my guilt stems from the fact that it has war relic / antique status and the limited numbers ( ~400,000 ) that were produced. If something were to break on it, it would be almost impossible to get parts for unless I was to cannibalize another one ( which I hate doing ), find somebody to have the part custom made, or machine it myself. The only easy parts that I have found for it are springs and screws.

Word was that the 1:12 twist wouldn't stabilize the 100gr bullets hunters prefer for deer. Bullet shape and length , not just weight determine how bullets will stabilize with any given twist. Round nose bullets, shorter than spritzers, generally stabilize more easily. The 244 was supplanted by the 6mm Remington later, with a 1:9 twist in 80-90 and 100grain bullets.

Here's the deal with your 244 rem. while like you say it will kill deer easily, it was marketed primarily as a wind-bucking panacea for woodchuck, fox and coyote hunters. It's 1in 12 twist could stabilize the light,75-90gr bullets. Winchester's 243, with the 1in 9 twist was more appropriate for heavy bullets. In 63 Rem came out with the 6mm factory loads in, 80-90 and 100-grain bullets, identical to the .244, the new name was a marketing ploy, which coincided with the change to the 1in 9 twist in their barrels. There's still a lot of .244's that shoot a lot of different bullets well. Velocity has a lot to do with stabilizing bullets.

White tail? I have seen some white tail in texas that were very small and almost domesticated, they were in parks and people was all around, didn't bother them at all. Just wondering because that is not the case here, yet but the population is booming and getting out of control.

It would probly be my New England. .223 w/ bull barrel. moon glow scope and a bi pod. depending on the rounds i use its dead on at 50 yds or 600 yds. very versatile rifle. up here in NW Ohio there is no need to shoot much farther. unless hunting groundhogs. everything else i use a CVA 50 cal. smoke pole

I have always favored Muzzel Loaders of all types This does not mean I don't enjoy others as well.
I just put in my own Trap Range and I also put in the correct stations for all shotguns including muzzel loading shotgun.

My go to fav is my Rem. 700 RS in .270 Win.
I got a new Rem.700 in 300 AAC Blackout. Shot a few hogs with it ..love it! Got some of the Rem. Hog Hammer 130gr. Barnes that I want to try on a deer .. It should work great.

I just ordered a new 80% polymer lower and I am going to be building my own rifle here soon, probably in 5.56. After that I would love to own or build a 338 lapua, 308 or 300 blackout chambered rifle. Hand gun, I prefer the H&K mk23.
