I think 2013 will roll around just fine, just like 2000 and all the other apocalyptal years have.
As far as Nostridamus, I've read some of his writings, but I really didn't make anything of them.

Nostradomus was a dreamer. If he lived in this day he would be a screenplay writer. Future generations will see things come to fruition that we have only dreamed of or saw in movies but they won't believe in prophecy because of technology. They'll know that if u can dream it u can conceive it.

But I have one warning and its full of dread. By the end of 2012 we'll all be dead!!!!!! ...read your mayan calendar people, the end is near, the end is near...LOL

Anybody that believes the end of the world will come on December 21st is a f**king moron whom I would leap at the opporunity to asphyxiate.
In a perfect world these "doomsday" 'tards would've been added to the compost heap a long time ago.

Yesterday I had lunch with a former colleague.
While chatting about school and my glorious retirement, she asked me to drive her to the church to get the "ashes". Although I now the purpose / rationale for the ashes...I wanted to hear her answer. Not surprisingly, she told me time after time "We are prohibited to eat meat until next Monday."
Not only her answer didn't have anything to do with my question but she became annoyed by my insistence. Later on, she told me she is not sure why the Christians can't eat meat until next Sunday.

The chief of the remaining Maya tribes has said that there's no big ending this year. That he can't wait for 12/22/2012 so people will quit hassling the Maya. Here's all you need to know about it, why it's batshit insane and how we can combat the ignorance and fear mongering.

As someone said earlier, it might be people that cause a disaster. People's desire for an end either by religious delusions or just to shake things up.

Duchessa,
I read in Comparative Religions that the "meat thing" is because of the politic of the day with the fishing industry. Christianity spread off-land first by water and so communities were fishing villages first, thus the need to keep the industry "afloat".

Consider the source. Whether it be the Mayans or Nostradamus etc. Selling fear galvanizes a community. Politics- its a cliche for a reason.

No.
We have about 300 years left on this planet before our population grows to such a degree we smother the earth. We will literally stand shoulder to shoulder covering the entire planet, and Earth will glow red from energy consumption. At that point we will have to start moving people to alternate planets - at the rate of about a billion at a time starting in about 200-250 years - or we die.

Oops, I mean 600 years. In 2600 is when it starts looking bad for us if we haven't learned to move on.

Dooms dayers have been running around saying
"it's the end of the world!" for countless generations.
Why should this be any different?
To me, it's just another excuse for the religobots to

Technically 2012 happened years ago. The Mayans had no concept of a leap year, and 2012 was simply seen as the end of one calender period.

As far as Nostridamus, I've read some of his writings, but I really didn't make anything of them.
Most of his writings didn't make sense because they were killing off people not working through their god, so he was never very specific. However the galactic alignment is coming, coupled with the periodic polar shift of the sun, which will be interesting to say the least. Modern science ignores electromagnet energy fields, which deliver maximum power when aligned. There is no dark matter, that's just a load of crap to confuse people. And yes the earth is expanding, for now her core has been heating the oceans from the bottom up, and soon the building pressure will increase her volume once more. However this isn't the first time, but many may be lost. If you really want some answers, check out "Thy Always seek" on Facebook

Believing in vaguely written ancient native prophecies isn't really something I get into.
I wouldn't say I blindly agree with anything or anyone, not unless it makes sense to me. I spent years studying electrical engineering cuz I believed I could go into real clean energy, but found out all those who succeeded ended up dead somehow. So I applied my gifts to other areas, began putting things together with this new knowledge that those in power dont give a damn about us, and what I found was and still is unbelievable to most. However despite what you believe, the earths core is heating, the sun is going ape-shit, and the alignment is still on course. There's no way I can explain what took me years to grasp in a simple message, but if you really care the truth is out there.

That's interesting. I will look in to that more closely.
But I don't think the earths doubling of size every 400 million years will keep up with human doubling of size every 40 years.

I often like to believe atheists analyse both sides of a story more then religious people before coming to conclusions... Unfortunately they are often just as ignorant as these crazy religious people. For instance, talking about how the mayans have no concept of a leap year so they are dumb and wrong... That long count calendar is so accurate that it doesn't need to add a leap year... Also... It doesn't say anything about the world ending... Does anyone research anything anymore or does everyone just believe whatever they want and post it as fact?
It's the end of an age. We will be entering a new age. It's like when our calendar ends at the end of December... The world doesn't end...it starts over. The long count is 25,000 years. We will be entering the 5th age. The mayans were incredibly intelligent people. Their astrological knowledge rivals ours today. On December 21st of this year, the earth will line up with the sun, which will line up to the super-massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. This only happens every 25,000 years. This is scientific fact backed up by NASA. The mayans knew this somehow. This will create a polar shift. Not in one second on the 21st, but ongoing. Some scientists say this is happening now and has been for some time.
What this means to life on earth is unknown. If the axis of the earth changes more quickly in time or the magnetic poles reverse, we could end up with major flooding from melting polar ice caps and volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis from a disturbance of the tectonic plates. We could potentially see another ice age...I hope not. I hate the cold. I will move to wherever the new equator ends up.
No one knows. It's a potentialy exciting time to be alive and we should all be considered lucky to possibly witness a world changing event...hopefully many don't die in the process.
Of course if you read the bible, the Koran, the E ching, or countless other religious books, you find that they all speak of gods returning to earth. I don't claim to believe in god, Santa clause, or aliens... But ancient man didn't fight and kill millions of people to preserve these sacred books for thousands of years to protect fairy tales and nonsense. They knew something... I hope we all become so enlightened. Only time will tell
