4. I can't eat it for medical reasons |
Just about every culture in the world has at least one dish that will knock you on your a** with its heat. From that birthplace of spices known as India, to the discovery of chile peppers here in the Americas, the world has been trying to find new ways to turn men into boys.
Personally, if I read the word "spicy" or "hot" on a menu, I make it my priority to test just how spicy that item is. If I am cooking for myself, I never skimp on the cayenne pepper. When I was young, if I cursed, my mom would put tabasco sauce on my tongue... and then when she'd leave the room, I'd grab the bottle and drink it. It has been a recent dream of mine to give ghost peppers a try.
So how about you ladies and gentlemen? Can you handle the heat?

I LOVE hot, spicy food! I have one fridge door shelf full of currie and hot sauces and a cupboard shelf with spices from India, China, Thailand, etc., including plenty of dried chiles. I cook something spicey 3 or 4 times per week.

Down here on the Gulf Coast you get used to the cajun/creole influence. I like spicy but not hot.
Thai is good, as well as some Indian foods, but when they turn the heat up on your chicken wings just to burn off the roof of your mouth, That's just insane!!

To an extent. I used to like my food a lot spicier than I do now (was never into death by peppers) using several dried hot red peppers for Kung Pao and such. However, I guess "medical reasons" my stomach just doesn't handle too spicy anymore, but I still like a mouth-tingling curry, Kung pao, etc. now and then. I like the sensation. I also enjoy complex flavors, so just spicy isn't enough.

Love it!!! I like to eat spicy foods to the point that I need to drink something. Occasionally I like to eat spicy food that will have my scalp sweating and I have to drink several beers. I know it doesn't help but, restaurants that sell really spicy food (I'm talking signing a waiver spicy) usually sell beer or sodas only and I too want to try a ghost pepper!

I put cayenne in with lemon and real maple syrup and water for a cleanse. Cayenne, lemon cleans the blood and liver, syrup is for energy. Don't eat, drink all you want a few days and I garuntee a major toxin dumping! I do it every spring.
I been eating some "explosive ember" peppers I grew and dried, ornamental but a very nice taste. Grew some hot Thai too. I strung them all and hanging ristas, very cool.
LA, I'm looking for ghost pepper seeds I find them I'm growing them. I did see a herb house online selling the peppers (may dissect for seed), you should be able to find them out where you are. Got 7 different peppers growing this year, (more than 1/4 acre gardens) One is a "peter" pepper, not hot but obscene as all get out
People like hot stuff watch "Heat Seekers"? Man vs food eats some hot stuff to. He couldn't finish my hot wings though, they can take paint off battleships.

I also make a line of hot wing sauces that I run in the restaurants I work at. My mild is usually "hot" for the non fire breather. My emphasis however is with flavor. All of my sauces have three stages of ignition. When you first bite into them your first sence is sweet. Then you notice a flavorful pepper taste created by the five different chilis I use, but don't be to quick to breeth because as soon as you take that first breath your mouth will ignite into flames and sweat will form on your brow. My hottest one can leave you slightly dilusional after about the sixth wing. Ahhh the joys of balancing sugar and spice makes every thing nice

Frank: Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table, asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native New Mexicans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge #3.
Here are the scorecard notes from the event:
CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? Napalm? It could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These New Mexicans are crazy.
CHILI # 2 - EL RANCHO'S AFTERBURNER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.
CHILI # 3 - ALFREDO'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my back bone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting plastered from all the beer.
CHILI # 4 -- BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC
Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.
Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman is starting to look HOT ... Just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?
CHILI # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Jalapeno peppers freshly ground, addingconsiderable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.
CHILI # 6 - VALERIE'S VERY VEGETARIAN CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic. Superb.
Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone.
CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing. It's too painful. I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.
CHILI # 8 - BIG TOM'S TOENAIL-CURLING CHILI
Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he'd have reacted to really hot chili?
Judge # 3 -- No report.

Love spicy food with a passion.
Have many different hot sauces and keep stock of habanero, chile, poblano and jalapeno peppers.
Love fried chicken wings and strips and fish drenched in habanero sauce. Before I fry fish and chicken, I will season the meat at least 4 hours in advance with garlic powder, black pepper and ground cayenne pepper and will season the flour/breading the same way.
You will need several cold beers with my chicken and fish.

Horse radish =wasabi they are the same plant and have almost identical taxonomies, in much the same ways that a white and yellow onion do. The differences in Asian horse radish and American horse radish are almost indistinguishable, I have had both.
To answer the question I love hot foods ghost chillies rock, just be carefull there also no joke. Love habeneros, jalapenos, and those little Asian peppers the Thai make chilli oil with.

However I am completing a divorce and moved in with sister. Her and her 34 year old daughter have the most infantile taste buds you ever hope to see.
Cooking has been a chore because there spices reflect their lack of love of flavor. I have to pick up things every time I cook.

I love any cuisine that is famous for spicy food. Up here in Ohio, the Mexican restaurants and Indian restaurants are always shocked when I actually order something spicy, and when they try to warn me, I tell them "good, hotter the better". Then again, I am originally from Louisiana, and am half cajun, half Italian... both cuisines known for their spices, obviously.

Spicy food revs the heart up.
I made the mistake once of eating a jalapeno that wasn't fully grilled and had all its seeds. I bit into that thing and tears were rolling down my face and I was coughing. The restaurant didn't have milk so I had to run to Starbucks. The ditz at the counter ran the menu of milk preferences and sizes. I am a gentle person but I growled at her. Luckily a dude saw me, I explained the situation and he grabbed a cup and poured me some milk.
Thai foods, curry, mexican foods are all very good if it isn't greasy. A spicy bowl of Pho is good when you have a cold.
