it's not that uncommon
but why wait for them, when you can approach them, if your interested........the worst that can happen is they say no..... then you're not left wondering for days or weeks (if you see them often as it is)

it matters......a lot
most women would pick an average guy with a great personality and sense of humor.....over a hot guy who lacks in those areas
now if the guy is hot and has personality, well you'd better had a deep wallet and/or big d*ck to compete.

i believe it is happening more today than it ever has in history. women are becoming their own self and finding strength and confidence in that so it makes it easier for them to approach a man who is to their liking.

Actually women often approach or contact men but often in subtle ways. Many blockheads don't even realize it thus they end up here on DH!

I was once approached in 2009 by an Asian girl at the library at UCLA,of which I was not a student.I was just using the internet.She asked about the printer,then she came back and asked for my number.Turns out she was just using the printer issue as a ruse to assess if she should ask me for my number.I gave it to her.
Tow years later I was at a bar,because a friend had invited me and people over for his birthday party.Turns out no one showed up(I think he had canceled it).The party invite was through Facebook,and I never accepted or declined,I just showed up.Anyways I ended up sitting all alone with people socialising around me.This woman,about early 30's,short medium blonde hair says "hi" and I reply back.She then starts talking to me and we hit if off.
I can safely guess that they were physically attracted to me,I was sitting alone in both cases.It could not have been because of my personality or sense of humor or intelligence.
It felt very good,and a blessing!
I find it a turn on.I asked my friends,most have never been approached,even though they are far more social than I am.Makes me feel ever betta!

In person I've been approached by women, though, most of them are outside my preferences only a few were actually cool people and understanding of the personal preference. Total experience on this matter has been good/positive for the most part and has tallied less then 10 people total over the years.
Online is a completely different experience from effin horrible to super cool.
I have met a few women from the internet. Never met any women from a dating site, but have met a handful from chat rooms. One I actually dated off an on for 2 years. Started out great, you can guess the rest.
To sum it all up... It happens but not very common when it does.

OP I've been approached several times and hardly stand out so it must be common, but smart play is picking the right kind of venues to go out that suit your personality.
The common mistake is people go out to pick up or something like that, and wind up going somewhere like a nightclub when they're not into nightclubs, then wonder why all the guys there that are into nightclubbing get all the women...

It's always best to show signs that indicate interest. Otherwise, smiling with eye contact remains ambiguous.

That's why a woman should show a sign that will eliminate the ambiguity of the smile. Otherwise, you wouldn't know how to take it. For the sake of argument, most men just assume she's interested and go for it, even if she ain't interested.
Which also bring me to another theory. Females avoid smiling and eye contact with men because they don't want it to be interpreted as something that it's not.

I can say some of the best relationships of my life have come when a woman did the approaching. What I think some guys have a hard time with is expecting to be treated like a rock star in his hay day when women threw themselves at him. Life doesn't happen like that.

Haven't ever asked a guy out or for his phone number and probably never will. And for some reason, I like it better when a guy calls me than if I am supposed to call him. (My daughter has been trying to talk me out of that habit.)
