I saw the "Any nurses here?" topic, and was wondering the same thing but with science. So, any biologists, microbiologists, clinical lab scientists, chemists, biochemists, physicists, etc here? Or anyone who works in a relevant field? Also, what made you pursue your particular field of interests?

edit: I did not use the term scientists in the title as not everyone is qualified to be called a "scientist" or are working towards that goal to become one.

So, today I just received an email informing me that my interservice transfer from the Marine Corps to the Army medical laboratory specialist MOS has been approved (put in my packet in Oct 2013). At the time I put in my packet, I was working part time at a retirement center looking for a real job. I was planning of entering the Army medical lab specialist, and upon completing their AIT school, challenge the ASCP (American Society for Chemical Pathology) to become MLS (Medical Lab Scientist) certified. However, since getting a position at Genentech with a 6-month contract through an agency, I am split between the 2 options.

Should I continue my new career at Genentech, or enter the Army and hope to become MLS certified?

Research how many are in each field for job security.
Check your area for available jobs you are seeking.
Talk to your advisor at College for any resources and info they have.
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Retirement benefits, etc...
What does your heart tell you to do?
If you have a God given gift in one area over the other, that area will come natural to you and cause you less stress in the future.

God bless and good luck on your journey!
