WHO KNOWS ?? -- "There have been few official attempts at connecting suicide and occupation."

Apr 10, 2014 ... American farmers are a dying breed, in part because they're killing themselves at a shocking rate.

** Understanding the Epidemic of Farmer Suicide - Newsweek

www.newsweek.com/understanding-epidemic-farmer-suicide-246455

Apr 16, 2014 ... I first heard about the problem of farmer suicide in 2010, when I came across a newspaper article about Dean Pierson, who shot and killed .

QUOTE: " Yet because suicide is such a personal act, some people and organizations take issue with the claim that it is tied to one’s occupation. “Whenever you say it’s due to a profession, what does that do for you? Does it offer you any information about how to prevent that suicide?” Jill Harkavy-Friedman, senior director of research at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, asked me. “Suicide is really complex and it is individual to individual.”

There have been few official attempts at connecting suicide and occupation.

Suicide leaves so many questions with no answers.

I'm sorry is so inadequate, but I am sorry.

I have heard, that a person appears happy before they commit suicide, and it is because they have made up their mind to commit suicide, and are happy with their decision. that is what many psychiatrists say, I don't know.

It could be that they felt that they were a burden and the world would be better off without them. Perhaps things weren't going well financially? There could be a number of reasons.... Sometimes, when someone has been depressed and then suddenly seems happy, they have made a decision... I'd have to know more to even begin to have any clue..

Suicide happens when life becomes hopeless for an individual. It's their way of escaping their personal pain. Sometimes they appear happy right before it happens because they know their emotional torment will be over soon.

The guy I'm talking about was quiet, yet around family and friends was always joking around, laughing, smiling, he loved traveling, he worked, there really wasn't any sign of him even being depressed.

If he was depressed he sure hid it well.

in all honesty I did this one time. The depression inside sometimes is more than a body can take. Yes, on the outside everyone thinks you're fine, inside you are a mess.
Sorry for your loss

Reading through threads tonight and I just want to say I am sorry..
I have known a few young and old that have done this and I really believe they do not know what they are doing.... They have come to a point where they just want to escape..
Not even thinking of the ones that love them.
I only know this the ones they leave behind pay a horrid price for there action...

Keep the good memories and never blame others..... that's what I have done ... good luck

It's so sad to think ppl are at a point to think there is no hope but it's so common today. It's not easy to get to that point and place and it's not easy to get away from. Who knows what the answer could be to help ppl wish I knew

Unless a note is left, we can only assume and wonder... We can't know the depth of dispare or depression. You can have all the fortune and fame (Robin Williams) and still look to suicide as THE last resort.

All you can do is help pick up the pieces and lend an ear/shoulder to those left behind.

I've been so deeply depressed that thoughts creep in and had my 3 year old there to show me a different way.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and for the family as well. So many questions and no answers...

Suicide may solve your problems, but just moves in on to those that love you. Now they probably hurt more than you.

In the 19th Century the State of MN claimed the highest rate of suicide and insanity was amongst the prairie farmers especially in the winter. Seemed the isolation got to them.

I believe people can seem happy and stable on the outside, because family and friends expect this , yet emotionally drained of problem after problem, but in today's society seeking help is painstaking, waiting lists, on the borderline of making to much money. , but not enough to get health insurance and so forth...The system fails Americans who really need help at that one moment to just get through..

My deepest condolences!
