Sutter Creek to South Lake Tahoe 81 miles pretty much all up mountains and that's on the freeway. Off freeway back roads still pretty much mountains and not even sure you would be able unless you had camping gear with you.
I live close enough to give him a ride but I have seen his posts so I'll pass! Lol

The first time I was to Lake Tahoe I was 20 years old and driving a 1968 pickup truck, that was in 1983 and I drove from PA.
OP, have you considered getting yourself a vehicle? They are really handy at times.

Op u wouldn't have enough money for me to take u to south lake Tahoe. I have property up there and go up every other summer. But my house witch was built in 1809 fell down so now we are in the proses of rebuilding using all of the boards and flooring from the old house. But not sure if it be this month or next yr. But yes it stunning up there and pricy to live. But its a slice of heaven for me.

I spent part of my childhood in Walnut Creek, Ca...and we use to go up Mtn. Diablo.
Back then there wasn't any guard rails that I remember back then and you'd be up over 5000 feet.

There is no interstate 50 because of US50. Their paths would have been around the same area and would have caused confusion.
That hasn't stopped North Carolina from building I74 along US74 but oh well.....

Oh, there's an interesting little story behind that. I95 was supposed to cut straight through Boston but that plan was scrapped due to public pressure and I95 ended up being routed over MA128 which already existed.

It is interesting how some areas do not use guard rails even with very steep/long drops at the edge of the road.
I too spent some time in Walnut Creek and have been up on Mtn. Diablo. Neat drive!
There were a lot of places in CA and other western states with no guard rails.
In this area they put up guard rails everywhere there is more than a 10' drop it seems.
