Thats a tall order OP.
Asking a woman to live without the instant comforts that they've grown accustomed too throughout their lives isn't a very romantic notion to most.
I'm considering off grid and a more aguarian lifestyle as well.
Its just so damn expensive getting there.

No, it's an easy mistake. I think the Mennonites are a bit more OK with modern technologies than are the Amish.
The only reason I know they are two different groups is that both lived in the southern half of my home state.

excellent question and thread...
i lived that way for over 3 years...
i could live that way right now with just a few things...
a woman that was into it and at least understood it would be a plus in my world...
this place was created and lived in for the first year and a half off grid...
i bought the property and set it up for living off grid...
including hauling water onto the property if needed and having running water without power once the tanks were filled...

Hows about living in a 16 foot real tepee ? Pitched in light forest 20 ft. close by a nice cool clean mountain stream (snow melt) for fresh potable water and nice cool bathing.
Fire in the center for cooking and heat.
No towns or city lights to block the stars and the milky-way at night.
Not being bothered by telephones rings nor those damn cell FONS.
No TWEBS, tweeting and twerping any where.
Naked sun bathing !
Music: lots of song birds and the sound of wind whistling though the pins by day
- owls, coyotes and other screeching critters by night.

Off the grid does not mean no computer or TV....or radio....it means you obtain your power, if you want power, by a means other than the power company, gas company, etc....
You have a well rather than city water....etc..
Probably a good idea to get use to that, we are headed that way right now.
You can buy batteries and use solar panels to keep them charged, or build a generator that charges your batteries via wind power....use a steam to run the generator....etc...
People do it, and it works and you can have all the comforts without paying a third of your paycheck to the utility companies.
You can even build and refurbish your own batteries...they are not difficult to build.

Sort of like looking for sailfish in a inland river.
I would also posit that the OP's question conflates two things. Solar power does not necessarily mean "off grid living" in the sense that I am presuming he means it.
Some "off grid" people tend to have other "challenges" shall we say; in the normal mental function department.

I think we need to move to friction power.
There use to be city buses that ran off static electricity....caused by friction.
So...we can set up a bed with devices so that when people have sex and all that friction, its creates electricity, then has a way to store it for future and current use.
now, if this had already been the case and you asked the question....everyone here could raise their hands and say...."Yes"
.....

^^yeah don't forget Hulu too..not a chance
I'm planning on solar panels on chateau retirement, maybe some chickens again, but then I remind myself of when I had chickens..and more than likely I'll toddle down to the farmer's market like I do now.
that stuff if for young people. I might even have them deliver them at this point..had a friend try that Blue Apron deal..and if I didn't have to feed an army..I'm going that route. More on the "grid".
good luck!

Nothing like a cabin in the woods, with a riuer near by. Shade trees to keep u cool and sun to tan. Stock up on nuts meat and fish hmmm . The thing is op. If i were going to do this, id do it alone. Most people that go off the grid are loners. They go alone. I knw i wouldnt want some man scareing the fish and deer away by mouing or talking. But just my opinion. Good luck.

But then there is Ohio?
" A person or persons unknown may not put line, hooks, or other hardware designed for the purpose of removing whale from the water, on or between the hours of 12am saturday until the hour of 12 am sunday, for the expressed reason or to operate a boat for the intention of removing whales from the water.
Section 12, paragraph 3 of the ohio municipal code. "
To me that is a strong argument for drug testing politicians!

When I was living "off the grid", I still had power and running water, lights and almost all the "stuff" that people have when living with power...
We used batteries and a convertor to run 110 power...
Used a propane fridge and propane stove and wood stove...
Propane hot water heater...
Basically a person can live in a "regular" house and never know it was off grid...
people that act like it's a hippy thing or a poor person thing are just showing how little they do know about what is out there...

Living in the mountains/off the grid does not mean the person is poor nor hippie. I do belieue that times are going to get rough and if a person does not knw how to make it with very little resources they wont make it. To some liuing like that will be hell but to people sorta like me it would be easy. Awhole lot less stressful. My grandfather tought me to work for what i want and if i cant eat it, ware it or use it all the time i dont need it. Theres a differance in wanting and needing . The land will provide euerything you need but you will not haue euerything you want.
