There are some softball fields near me that are 292 ft down the line. Yeah, baseball fields look so much bigger on television...What? Yes, Dusty Rhodes in game one of the 1954 world series snuck one down the corner for a game-winner. Hmmm... I don't suppose the commissioner would allow for such a short distance porch these days.

Many people today dispute that the green monster is 310 ft away from home plate.
Try more like 290 at the most.

Back when the Polo Grounds were built there was no baseball commissioner.

What was it in Yankee Stadium? Wasn't it super short for Ruth?

...not that short...I don't know if the old yankee stadium was considered a hitter's park, a pitcher's park or a neutral park...

Don't know, but I thought it had a short RF porch for Ruth.

Found this info about pre 1924 Yankees Stadium...below w *
I know when Mick played RF was 296'..then a little further when YS was refurbished..
One thing when Joe D played HRs were hard to hit in left center..457 feet..that's why Joe D woulda benefit playing in Fenway and Ted Williams in Yankees Stadium..
*Note - The field dimensions of Yankee Stadium in 1923 were different than most people realize. For the inaugural season, the RF line was 257' 6' and the LF line was 257' 1". I have attached an image from a NYT article from 1924 Feb 3 that discusses the new field dimensions for the 1924 season. For several reasons, before the 1924 season began, home plate was moved up about 10 feet, and the diamond was angled slightly more towards the right. The corner just left of dead CF (behind the flag pole) was 498-500 feet from the plate, dead CF would have been about 472 feet, and the RCF corner would have been about 437 feet. Babe Ruth did not need that much help...he was--after all--Babe Ruth. Indeed, who else in the early 1920's was capable of hitting a tape measure homer?
