...I could not stomach the notion of signing a player to a contract of over 100 million dollars that I sensed had no chance of ever being enshrined in the HOF.

I suppose it would be nice to be so rich as to make any number of 100 million dollar mistakes.

Time--3 or 4 years?--will tell. I remember the year Ken Griffey Jr. was drafted number one and the Pirates drafted someone called Merchant number 2 and, and the Twins drafted, um, Willie Banks as the third pick...

Another guy who is major league ready with the glove but looks at the bat and thinks "What the hell am I supposed to do with this damn thing!?!?!?" Could be Buxton or the recently DFA Arcia or Revere or Span or the great Aaron Hicks or Goofy Gomez. They were all major league ready fielders, but only Revere and Span could hit. I just wish they were doing it for us.

WILLIE BANKS! He could see home plate, but couldn't throw the ball over it and if he did they knocked it out of the park! He was the guy that went something like 3-13 in the mid minors so they promoted him! He never really did make it in the bigs did he though I recall he kicked around for awhile.

I knew Willie Banks..I umped a few of his HS baseball games...he was born in Jersey city and went to St Anthony's HS, the basketball power house in Jersey...I believe he wasn't ready to be a #3 choice out of HS..but he played like 17 yrs..he was a Yankee..I always wonder what if he could have been a position player instead..he could hit back then in HS
He was a dependable reliever for the Yankees and Diamondbacks in 1997-98, who went 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA for the Yankees in September 1997 to help propel them to a wild card playoff bert

It's stressful enough owning fantasy teams...
I finally got two trades done this week, though.
I traded kinsler/frazier/carter for cano/machado
and.... I just now traded Miguel caberera/Justin upton/pence for jose fernendez and ellsbury.

And there is David Price--a $200 million dollar pitcher performing as though he were a number 4 starter.
