Bye bye, to part of the Appalachian trail if Trump and the Washington Republicans get their way. it just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?
Quote:
"If Donald Trump has his way, those moments will be lost to another generation. According to Forbes, Trump and Rex Tillerson own shares in the pipeline which is about to sever the Appalachian Mountains and spread natural gas along the Appalachian Trail."

Concerns of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy:
Here are some of the major concerns we have about the Mountain Valley Pipeline:
Permanent damage to iconic views along the Appalachian Trail
The FERC DEIS failed to study the visual impact the Mountain Valley Pipeline would have on the A.T. and the surrounding area. Multiple iconic viewpoints in Virginia are predicted to be severely impacted, including Angels Rest, Kelly Knob, Rice Fields, Dragons Tooth and McAfee Knob — some of the most visited and photographed locations on the entire A.T. The proposed route for the project would require the ?creation of a 500-foot "utility corridor" around the pipeline — 125 feet wide initially, with the option of expanding to 500 feet for future projects — which would effectively eliminate thousands of acres of pristine forest. The ATC will be performing its own visual simulations to understand the full impact of the pipeline, though we predict that the pipeline corridor could be viewed from over 20 miles away at many viewpoints.
Health and safety concerns for nearby communities and the surrounding environment.
Numerous safety concerns loom over the Mountain Valley Pipeline as well. Situated on land that is geologically unstable — literally crossing over a designated seismic zone — the risk of severe erosion, landslides and pipeline failure are extremely high. Such instability also poses a high likelihood of natural gas leaks, which could poison the surrounding environment and contaminate the groundwater used by nearby communities.
Harmful changes to the Jefferson National Forest Management Plan
In order to accommodate the visual and environmental damage that would be caused by the Mountain Valley Pipeline, the U.S. Forest Service agreed to lower the Jefferson National Forest Management Plan standards for water quality, visual impacts, the removal of old-growth forest, and the number of simultaneous projects passing through the borders of federally protected land. This unprecedented change is ?extremely ill-considered, not only because it would permit the Mountain Valley Pipeline to destroy thousands of acres of pristine forest, but it would open the gates for future infrastructure projects to cause similar destruction. All of these changes were made without ?sufficient public review or input from other partners — a rash and dangerous change from the standards previously established ?through decades of cooperation.
A potentially significant impact on the economy for nearby communities.
The negative impact this pipeline would have on nearby Pearisburg and ?Narrows, Virginia — each a designated A.T. Community™ — would reach beyond safety concerns. These communities are staunch supporters of the A.T. and benefit from tourism dollars provided by hikers and other visitors. This economic study highlights some of the potential impacts the pipeline would have on the income and property values in the surrounding areas. Both Pearisburg and Narrows have passed resolutions opposing the pipeline, as the wellbeing of their communities may be at risk.
McAfee Knob, among other popular viewpoints, will be affected by the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
The ATC does not take this position lightly — for months, we have attempted to find ways to minimize environmental and visual impacts through collaboration with Mountain Valley Pipeline officials and the project's various partners, including the U.S. Forest Service. However, due to the massive impact the proposed project would have on the Appalachian Trail, the surrounding environment, and multiple communities and small businesses, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy strongly opposes the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, and we urge our members, the A.T. hiking community, outdoor lovers, and the citizens of Virginia and West Virginia to stand with us.

People always have to find something to B--ch about. Wonder how loud the B--ching will be when there is no coal, no gas, and they have nothing to heat with or power our vehicles so we can zip all over the place as we are accustomed to. Then the neuclear plants will spew into the atmosphere and kill off a large number of people. Wonder if we'll be complaining because we have to ride bicycles on the rims because there is no petroleum to manufacture the tires and if no bicycle wonder how much complaining there will be because the soles of shoes aren't very comfortable and don't last because we're having to walk everywhere.

Drilling experts explain why Trump can’t bring back oilfield jobs
Just as with coal, oil jobs are decreasing due to automation and advanced machinery, not regulations.
Industry experts have some news for the president: Because of automation, a lot of the jobs lost in oil drilling aren’t coming back. And more are going to be lost.
“To me, it’s not just about automating the rig,” Ahmed Hashmi, BP’s head of upstream technology, told Bloomberg recently. “It’s about automating everything upstream of the rig.” The story also noted that “automation means wells need only five workers, down from 20.”
Donald Trump won the election with promises of creating a massive number of jobs and cracking down on industries that outsource or kill jobs. But because he isn’t discussing the real reasons we’re losing jobs?—?and because he’s betting on the dirty fuels of the past?—?he is missing the window to create millions of new jobs in clean energy.
Trump claims EPA standards for clean air and water are what has killed jobs in the fossil fuel industry and hurt the economy. The reverse is actually true. As studies have shown, EPA regulations create jobs and spur innovation.
Trump’s war on EPA regulations will kill jobs and a lot of people
Clean air and water standards create jobs, spur innovation, and save lives.
The Office of Management and Budget reported to Congress last year that EPA’s air regulations cost the economy $41 to $48 billion (in 2014$) while providing benefits worth $172 to $668 billion.
Last week, Trump signed a law that killed a transparency requirement of the Dodd-Frank financial reforms for oil and gas companies to disclose payments to foreign governments, including taxes. Trump says this deregulation push means “bringing back jobs big-league.” He asserted, “we’re bringing them back at the mine level. The energy jobs are coming back.”
*****But that isn’t true. Coal wasn’t killed by regulations, as many experts have explained. Cheap renewables and fracked gas were the main culprits. And the overwhelming majority of coal jobs were lost through advanced machinery, productivity gains, and automation.
And many more mining jobs can be automated. A 2016 study found “automation is likely to replace 40–80 percent of workers in a mine, with newer mines and those with many years of life left most susceptible to automation,” as Brookings reported last month.
The oil industry is in the same exact position. The New York Times reported Sunday that some “163,000 oil jobs were lost nationally from the 2014 peak, or about 30 percent of the total.”
But, the story warns, “energy experts say that between a third and a half of the workers who lost their jobs are not returning.” A VP for strategic development at one Pennsylvania drill-rig maker explained why so many jobs won’t come back: “If it’s a repetitive task, it can be automated,” so a computer can replace a worker.
The result is that while U.S. oil production is down less than 10 percent from 2014 levels, the Times notes there are only “a bit more than one-third as many rigs operating as in 2014.” One Texas producer is now so efficient, “the company added nearly 240 wells … without adding new employees.”
The future is especially bleak for oil jobs because of the battery and electric vehicle (EV) revolution, which led Bloomberg New Energy Finance analysts to warn investors to expect the ‘big crash’ in oil by as early as 2023.
If Trump truly wanted to create jobs, he’d have to make large investments in?—?and embrace policies that support?—?fast-growing industries like EVs, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. But the president and his Big Oil backers prefer to let the Chinese do that because, you know, they invented all that climate change stuff.
Trump to cede millions of high-wage jobs to China

Joe and I disagree on pipelines. He says we need them. I say they destroy too much and make risks. And we are after them to ship off and sell to other countries. He says so what. I say..so we are idiots to sell our resources. They are limited. And when we run out..then what. The rich can afford to pay to get theirs back and the poor cant. That this is for the good of the people is bull. The purpose is to make Halliburton and their cadre richer. And the line that ANYTHING is for jobs is a joke. My opinion is that Donnie just likes the sound of his voice and as long as he can keep people stirred up, he's in the lime light. One thing for sure is he has hit people where their brains have kicked in and seeing things around them again instead of our just floating through with a deaf ear, complaining, and wishing for what once was. AND, yes the news media has the freedom of speach but they've gotten like lawyers in court. They can say anything they want as long as it can cause "a shadow of doubt". That's the game. Do a one second replay of something any politician (democrat or republican) has said and make it into a totally different matter than it was. That's the problem with the English language, can be twisted to mean more than one thing and the media is the experts on that. Heck, they have turned into the live voices of the liars magazines.

Trump ticks off the usual media by posting on Twitter at the same time the news gets it. So they cant twist it or offer it ahead of him. Rather negating the need for the new guys. Trump loves to mess with them too. He does stuff on purpose to rile the media and get them going. They play right into his hands. As soon as he says something, they want to twist it. Trump doesnt screen what he says..just pops it out. And you have to figure out what the hell he just meant. Like the Sweden thing. A few days after it was IN media about the migrants rioting in their camps in Sweden.

Morning news showed lots of vandalism (grafetti) all over clifts, natural bridges, rocks, in a beautiful park. It's known for rock climbing, hiking, and draws many visitors from out of state. They said the park service is having a difficult time just keeping up with the cleaning. I'm sure they are because this is vast acres and mountain area. Said most has to be cleaned with pressure washer.
All those that are being arrested for shop lifting, drug possession need to be handed a scrub brush and bottle of dish detergent and sent hiking for 5 miles up some of those trails.

What is the mentality? Just saw a judge show where the Negro kids coach for community sued the Negro boy of 18 he caught, for shooting a BB gun along with a 13 year old that broke a glass basketball back board. He said he bought them as a pair so the kids would have the same as the adults on the other side of the court and feel good. The kid said he didnt hit it, other kid did. Judge said still guilty cause tried so he got caught..he pays.
I guess people dont raise kids these days to think. We were raised you dont damage stuff. Or else!
Like I said...why? To make their mark? Jealous of what they dont own? Too stupid to entertain themselves? And todays PC and permissive society lets them get away with it.

I see that with kids and stuff. We have lots of toys we got as kids. We wore clothes to rags. We valued what we got. And our parents told us, wreck it and do without. Not buying you new. We were not the kids who played with toys for a week and then wanted new. We didnt expect new clothes every season. We wore what still fit and mom added a couple of new things to pad it out. And no way she would have spent 40-80 for a pair of jeans that come ripped to far to wear for play..much less good. I saw a pic of Beyonce in a mag. She was sitting at some event with her daughter who is like 5 and husband. Said the pretty dress on kid cost $1,500. FOR A 5 YEAR OLD!! Beyonce had on some kimono baggy coat thing. And peeking out were jeans. And the one leg was so ripped that the bottom below the knee was hanging by a strip. Other leg was no better.

I read tho that the pendulum is swinging. Young people are getting tired of grunge and starting to dress up more. What gets me is you see around the world..poor people..women who maybe own 2-3 dresses. But, they are pretty dresses and they wear them always. Women and men and the kids all look nice and proper. You see an African women or Indian or Japanese and they may be doing menial chores, but are dressed up. Do Americans think they are so great they can be slobs and everyone can bite them? We have a rep across the world of being slobs. I figure life is too dull to be dull too.

People are going nuts. Another shooting in a club after two others yesterday. And the idiot who drove people down on the London bridge. I see kids are taught no patience, never hear no and grow up with no coping skills. So as adults they think they can get away with anything. Coal miners still stupidly believing Trump...so sad...
"There are zero new coal power plants under construction. There are zero in the planning stages. There are zero being proposed.
The coal industry can’t make a comeback, because there’s simply nowhere else to sell any coal. In fact, even with Trump in office signing away environmental laws left and right, more coal-fired plants are closing. The shrinking market that remains will be dominated not by coal from the Ohio and West Virginia miners that flanked Trump, but from Wyoming, where thick seams, high automation, and economies of scale make coal much less costly to produce.
Robert Murray, who lined his miners up to serve as props for both Trump and Mitt Romney, was careful to insinuate a rebirth of the industry if they could just shake off Obama. But now…
Robert E. Murray, an outspoken mining executive, recently suggested tempered expectations for a coal rebound. The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, cautioned in November that the potential impact of a regulatory rollback would be “hard to tell"."

Saw that too. They are doing open pit with heavy equipment. Not men down a shaft. And with gas so cheap, plants are going to that instead of coal. So no those jobs wont return. The only thing I do agree with is to not order all those coal fired closed like Obama wanted. Our power grid is hanging by a thread now. How can we close plants UNTIL we have other sources of power up and running. Where it is wind, solar or whatever.

People are going nuts. Another shooting in a club after two others yesterday. And the idiot who drove people down on the London bridge. I see kids are taught no patience, never hear no and grow up with no coping skills. So as adults they think they can get away with anything. And the solution to arguments and different ideas is to shoot or kill people.
I have a neice that is a very patient woman and will go the extra mile with what would have sent me off a long time ago. BUT she has a breaking point and when she snaps you don't even want to be within a mile of her. She and husband have a 36 year old daughter that has done nothing except go down the wrong road since she was 12 years old. Mom would put her foot down to control the wild side of the girl, but DAD would defend and always come up with some exuse for her actions. So needless to say there has been a lot of turmoil within that house. The girl married at 16 and started having babies. So now the kids are teenagers and have had plenty experience with the trashy life. One of the boys has been big time trouble for two years and will not listen to anyone so skipping school, thrown in detention and disregarded any kind of restraint. SO...will have his 18th birthday the end of May. Has been in dention for 6 months because he refused to go to school as the judge ordered. Time to re-evaluate his case and the parol officer called the grandparents (my neice and husband) and had a meeting with them. Said that the kid would not be released unless he went somewhere beside with his mother. SO...my neice said "no way, been there and done that and when I threatened to wipe him off the map because he sassed me and wouldn't do anything I told him to I was told by the family social services office that if I laid a hand on him they would bring charges against me for child abuse. SO, not coming back in my house". The parol officer said this time, if he was released from detention that the judge would lay down strict guidelines for him to follow. So...neice's husband (the grandfather) said he wanted to take the chance and give him a home.
SO...yesterday they went to court. Judge verbally ripped the kid apart but as we all know that was going in one ear and out the other and kid doesn't give a chit who says what, he'll do what he wants. Judge asked if grandparents were willing to give him a place to stay and grandfather said "YES". OK, time for my neice to snap and she did so right in front of the judge. (I'm laughing my butt off because I certainly can visualize it). She told the judge of the previous problems and how she'd been cautioned about stomping his hindend if he didn't straighten up so she would only agree to give him the chance if he behaved, she had the right to discipline regardless how rough it needed to be, and if the kid was sent home with her to expect that he would get knocked flat if he opened his sassy mouth and ignored what she said. She told the judge that she was from the old school and would go off on the kid if he pushed her buttons. She said the judge sat back in his chair, looked at the kid and asked if he understood what granny was saying. Said the kid dropped his head and looked like he could crawl under the rug. Neice spoke up and told the judge that was her stand on the issue and she'd had enough. The kid was to finish the school year, and then follow up with studies to get his GED even after he turned 18, and then as soon as school was out and the 18th birthday he was go get a job even if it was mowing the city park with a push mower. She didn't care but he was either going to act like he had some responsibility or he could just go back to juvy jail and she wanted the judge to let the kid make the choice or he could just go back to juvy jail. Said the judge remarked that "it would be a much better world if there were more people who believed in the old school". So, kid is with grandparents for two days. I wonder for how long?

I'll give it a week! What sucks is the kids are pumped up by the schools that if they get disciplined, it is child abuse and to tell the social worker or teacher and they will see the parents are punished. Let the kids get away with murder and one day they WILL murder. The do-gooders are more of the butt-inskys. I am amazed the judge was of a like mind. That is rare today too.
I feel sorry for my neighbor. They had two kids. The girl and mom were always at odds and the girl screwed up. And boy turned out great and had a son. And that son just commited suicide due to a girl when he was only 20 or so. Only good thing is that grandma had died the year before and didnt see it.

Joe saw on internet two times that Colbart is fired. Be nice. What a pain. On and on and on and on....enough already. I watch Kimmel mostly. Fallon acts to childish half the time. Guess Colbart found out you cant be as vulgar and swear like on cable.

I totally agree with you. Fell asleep one night during the late evening news. Woke to this piece of crap and his bad mouth and even that late at night it almost made me want to retch. I am certain never to tune in to anything he has to say or anything that even shows his face. Anyone who thinks and talks like that isn't worthy of the 10 seconds it takes me to turn off the TV.

He started out trying to fit the pattern of night talk show host. And over time, he reverted more and more to the format he ran on cable. Now he is one note charlie...over and over the same rants against Trump. Enough of the one sided. Half the time he isnt even funny. I can laugh at Trump just like at any politician. But, I refuse to listen to a hater who goes out of his way to cut down one person. The fact that he has high rating either means there are that many people who agree. Or that many people who have written off the nightly talk shows in that time slot no matter who it is. Or the reality of polls..that being that a segment of people are extremely vocal while the bulk of us are the silent majority.

Agree again. Just a bunch who hop on whatever band wagon is rolling through. Wear it out and over to the next band wagon.

NPR show on how politicizing is getting so heavy. And Fallon is losing cause not controversial like Colbert. What was mentioned that I agree with is that the radical people are the ones who are leading the charge for those who agree with them.
I agree with that. The Trump haters who cant stand they lost are hanging on for dear life to ranters and ragers. They seem to think the voters who voted for him are even listening to them. We turn off Colbert most of the time. Listen to Kimmel unless he goes off on it too much. I dont watch Fallon for the reason of him acting too childish, not his views. I am past watching beer pong or some silly crap he does...like thank you notes on Friday. yawn...

I don't know what they are teaching in school now. I remember the teacher really trying to impress upon us to respect our people in Washington, Using capital letters and only using their proper title. Now people are mocking and cutting off heads - where did they learn all this? What happened to the laws that use to support this (stepping/burning the flag, threatening people in government) What happened to shooting the ones that put the US in peril?
Wonder when Bob Dylan sang the song "the times are a changing" if he had any idea just how much...
(He's got to be getting up in age - He is older than me)!
-
I know things are much different in government and so much room for improvement - Maybe we need to go back in time and learn about respect, and start helping people - Get rid of greed - I honestly believe one of the reasons for taking out most of religion in government is so they can't be held accountable (and can say whatever they want)
Well shoot, didn't mean to get this far into it - But that's my story and I'm sticking to it
