My father was physically present and uninvolved. My mother was 11 marbles short of a dozen literally and a chain smoker. She wanted to keep me 5 forever so she could always have absolute control over me. But she was a great cook and good with the family money. But to the question, neither.

I probably loved my dad a little more when growing up.
He was easier to get along with than my mom.
We'd play the piano and sing songs together when I was young... and he showed me how to play baseball and shoot hoops.
We don't do that anymore.
We still watch football together every once in awhile.
He sends me a Sudoku puzzle every morning.

My dad is very passive. Cool, calm & collect. Lay back, very easy going type of guy. So it was easier to be close to dad. My mom is very controlling. She tells my dad what to do. He listens & do it. He said it's easy just to follow along than to fight her.
I think two controlling people might not work well together. Trump would not like a woman that is exactly like himself, she wouldn't put up with him. Two very passive people might not be good for each other, then no one will be in charge. The dishes & the laundry will never get washed.
But each family is different. You have to decide what works best for you.

We are closer to dad. Mom acts too much like a warden, a police officer. "Where are you going? What time are you coming home? Who are you hanging out with? I want you to get home before midnight. Don't stay out too late."
We feel sorry for dad when she beats him up verbally.
Mom's requests are not really requests, they are really an order. We love mom, but she is too controlling. I think controlling people have a fear of abandonment, that's why they are being controlling.
