I can't imagine the amount of litter boxes you'd need for that many cats. That guy from My Cat From Hell or whatever it's called says you need one box for each cat, and if you have more than one story, that many litter boxes on each floor.
I used to have two boxes, one on each floor, and I hated cleaning them out all the time. (And all that litter dust left around the boxes.) Then my cat went to being indoor/outdoor and I got rid of the boxes.
Of course, now, instead of cleaning up the litter boxes, I get to clean up the various gifts my cat brings home--mice, birds, rats, huge bugs, geckos...

I'm sorry but I can't take the kitty litter smell. If they don't go outside like a dog I'm out.
To each his own though. If you like it then it's totally your business.
My Eliot had a cat door.. (I think he felt the same way about a cat box as you do).
Unfortunately this only works if you live in the country.. as I did.

I think 3 is my excess number. I can't think of much I'd want more then 2 of.
OK my house has 3 bedrooms but that in hopes of one day having a kid right now the house seems too big for me.

7 seems a bit much to me. I'd be thinking they're conspiring to kill me. I have one, and two dogs. She won't conspire with the dogs because she thinks they're stupid, so I figure I'm safe.
So why do you have 7 cats and what does your landlord think of that?
I agree with her about the locking up the cats. I won't lock up my baby for anyone. She lives here, you don't.

I only have one litter box for my two cats...I use scented clumping litter and clean it twice per day...every day....I only have a tiny place so that works for us....

Over the years I've lived in a lot of apartments, in nearly all of them there have been a LOT of strays. Except one.
At this one apartment complex there were no strays. But there was a mexican roach coach parked out front all year round that drew good sized crowds on the weekends.

Its your choice to have as many cats as you like.
Its other people's choice to not like that many around.
Personally, it would be too many for me and a deal breaker...just being honest.
you weren't wrong, he wasn't wrong....its just you didn't see eye to eye on this.
A couple of pets is fine, but that many and they end up being the main focus and always in the way and etc, every time and where, there they are and that many indoors can get nasty with pet hairs and there you are having to spend time going behind them to keep everything tidy.
So...advertise yourself as having 7 cats indoors and put in the ad that if they can't deal with that, then don't bother responding.

Here's a cat, there's a cat...interrupting the night, you never get a half hour without a cat in the way of something, or wanting to be petted or something...then you wake up the next day and you think its her leaning into you, but no, its some cat.

I have outside cats. They have kittens every spring. This is the country and alot don't survive wild animals. I am usually left with 3 or 4.
There are low cost (or possibly free) clinics you can take them to have them spayed/neutered.

Every dog or cat I had was spayed or neutered. I lived in the country too with mine. I don't understand leaving that sort of thing to chance?? Country or not??
Not taking care of your animals to mass reproduce is very irresponsible. Inbreeding occurs with the added diseases.

But that's the point. He's a guest and in my book, if it doesn't harm the animal, having them out of the way when necessary is right.
I'm allergic to cats, more so to some breeds than others. I used to visit a friend of mine who had three, two of whom really set off my allergies. She'd put them away in a room when I'd visit so they wouldn't crawl all over me (and tell me which chair to stay off of since it was "their" chair.) I didn't ask, she just did it.
I put my dogs away when people visit if they're afraid of dogs, or allergic, or uncomfortable. The cat stays away on her own, but if she didn't, she'd be put outside with the pet door locked.
I do it for the comfort of my guests. It has nothing to do with who lives where.
Now if say, the OP's guy asked them to be put outside the room where the two of them were sleeping, it was not an outrageous request. Not everyone wants an audience when they're busy. My dogs get sent out of the bedroom then, too. I gotta say, if I was dating someone who would not put them outside the bedroom, especially since sometimes they're much too curious about what's happening, I would be thinking twice about who it was I was dating, and what my importance was to them.
Now, depending on the reason he wanted them put in the back room, the request might be legitimate. It might be because he doesn't like cats or maybe just her cats and if that's the case, it's probably better that they're no longer dating. But I'd be asking what's going on if he kept asking them to be put in a different room.

Aren't there ordinances or HOA rules or something along those lines that limit the amount of animals you can have? Especially in an apartment in the city, I would think the city would have something to say about it.
Here in Henderson/Las Vegas I think you can only have three before you have to get a special license, which sometimes require neighbors to sign off on. Landlords can evict you if they discover you have more pets than are allowed.

lol...OK, so your grandma comes over and you'd kick her out because she's uncomfortable with your cat because your cat is more important than her and lives there. She doesn't.
All I'm saying is that sometimes you make accommodations for people that might inconvenience your animal. And I say inconvenience, not harm.
And you figure out if the person just needs time to get comfortable, or will never and so therefore you're not going to be compatible.

My mom had 10 cats, and we loved them all. When I was a kid, everywhere I looked there was a fat puss. When I went to bed at night, they'd all pile on top. If I had to get up for the bathroom, when I returned, they wouldn't let me back in!
