My grandpa did something like this,,,He moved his family from West Virginia in 55 to San Jose Ca.. They were super poor. He did odd jobs until he had saved enough to get a loan for a couple tractors. Then he went to work digging foundations for housing tracts. He hit it big time, A right place at the right time thing. The housing boom was just starting and he cashed in. & spent the next 30 years working his a** off and raking in the cash,,,,,after he retired and got old the wolves started circling, everybody wanted a piece of the pie. Everybody friends and family started kissing his a** thinking they were going to get their piece.....aaaaah but he smelled the wolves and was well aware of them sniffing around,,so outsmarted everybody, when he died in his will it was ordered EVERYTHING be liquidated into cash and it was to be divided equal between his 5 children,,,NOBODY GOT SHIT except his kids,,,he had a living brother and sister, didnt get shit,,us 15 grand kids, didnt even kick us a 100, not shit for us, all the hangers on,,nothing and it was iron clad nobody could do shit about it. He explained his reasoning in the will,,rather than itemize everything and say who got what or not itemize and his kids fight over stuff,,f**k it, liquidate it into cash and split the cash. The reason he gave was "I got 5 kids, its my responsibility to make sure my kids are taken care of, the grand kids can get a cut when their parents die if anything is left, not my problem" everybody was pissed, everybody thought they were going to get some of his pie and he told em all from the grave to "piss off",,,,,Bwaaaaahhhhaaaahhhaaa i was pissed for about 5 min. but the more i thought about it the more i thought "hell yeah paw-paw that is how you kick the wolves and a** kissers in the teeth,,,,,my dad died 5 years ago (15 years after his dad died) and my cut (1/5 i have 4 brothers) after my dad pretty much pissed his away came to 42k

That all goes back to the belief that some people have that just because they're somebody's child that they're automatically entitled to an inheritance.

The assets get divided equally in every states.
If there is no next of kin and no will, the government gets it.
I don't have to worry, I only have one daughter.
Funny, she asked me about my house/money once..
