While the overall proposed spending is about on par with last year, at $4.1 trillion for 2018, the budget is notable for the knife it takes to domestic programs focused on science and research, the arts and, most notably, social welfare programs. On the flip side, defense spending would be upped by about 10% and more than half of the increase in border security funds would be directed toward the construction of a "new and replacement" border wall. Here is a rundown of the most eye-popping numbers to come out of Trump's first budget:

Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican, said in a statement. “This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall.” Mr. Rogers and Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania are leading the effort. Mr. Trump has vowed to make Mexico foot the bill for his border wall, but Mexican authorities have said they won’t play along. Left without a funding source, the president has said American taxpayers will pick up the tab for now, and he’ll look for ways to soak Mexico in the long run. When the NAFTA renegotiation’s are done, and the illegals are thrown out, money saved, (no teaching illegals, smaller class size. No treating illegals, no hospitals closing. No more illegals flooding our jails), will easily pay for basic wall. U.S. citizens like myself would happily donate $10 dollars for a brick with our name on it to spruce it up. Easy to pay for it!
