Why do I ever think life is going to go smoothly til I die. You can look up my tenants 15 minutes of fame on national news. He is dead at age 52 thanks to the Didion Corn Mill he worked at. He was at work along with 15 others on night shift when the plant blew up. Pics are on line. It happened at 11 pm. 11 injured and 1 dead, 2 missing. His brother in law knocked on my door at 8 am and said they got the news he was one of the missing. So we all had a day of hell. In the evening, I got a call from his niece, they found Bob and he is deceased.
Why him! He was here on my farm for 22 years and became my "brother". Despite some issues, he was the kindest, hardest working man you could have known.
If-onlys abound. A cadaver dog found him in the collapsed building under a ton of cement. They wont let the family see him in the morgue..company IDed him and so smashed cant recognize him to ID anyway. They said it was instantaneous death. They found the third body finally after two days.
Now the hassles for the family due to NO WILL! Please people..no matter how old. Death comes in a blink of an eye. WHY HIM!? Why you. No one knows.And he knew the plant was dangerous due to neglect and hated the job.
RIP: Robert L. Goodenow/Bob, Portage Wisconsin, age 52. We loved you well. You were named well..you were GOOD.

Sorry to hear that. Those can be dangerous places to work.
Reminds me of the explosion in the Pillsbury A Mill so many years ago.
Sounds like the guy was much loved.

Thank you all. I keep hearing a truck and thinking it is him. And saying "Bob, please come home." And it wont happen. It is just so insane. Why him? And thinking of how he died crushed under four stories of a building. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What were his last thoughts, even if only seconds. All the if onlys.................

What makes me so mad is the cover ups starting. OSHA was after them before. Now the owners babble about how they cared about their workers and want to get back to production for the town. And the workers who say they love their job and company. Yep..as long as you keep your job. There are support groups in the town, but the workers families that commuted get zip for comfort. And I know he hated the place. Said every night when he got in, had to sort out the messes made in day and how many were due to poor management. And he could hardly breath with all the corn dust in the air. Now they are saying perhaps it was caused by the enthanol lab. Maybe..but the whole plant wouldnt have blown up if it wasnt FULL of combustible dust.
It is sad that people get trapped in piss poor jobs just to make a living.

I see I will end up dealing with the house a lot. Sisters guy showed up to get some plants and brought another bud of Bobs. I was told that it appears that the sis and her guy and this friend will get stuck with dealing with contents. The two sisters from out of state are heading home after funeral and eldest brother is bowing out. Lovely. But sure they will be wanted to be included when the cash needs distributing! If I hadnt checked things, seedlings would have died and the stupid gold fish inside. So glad he had family to take care of stuff.
They released his body so suspect the funeral will be this week. What is creepy is the 7th is the anniversary of my husbands death. And his name was also Bob. So Bob helped me bury Bob and now it will be his turn.

Try to look at it this way instead of worrying about what you're going to do tomorrow or a week from now live for today cause tomorrow might never come ..

 Hi , a word about wills , living trust, what ever they have in your state , if you do not have a will the state will decide what happens to your property , your remains so you might want to put some thing down on paper about your last wishes.
I had to make they arrangement's for my dad and mom, they both had a trust with there last wishes, it can save someone a lot of pain in making the plans for some one with things in writing , just saying .
I did not like making out a trust for myself but it will save a big fight some day with things in legal writing .

We buried him yesterday. Closed casket. Family saw him prior and decided due to bruising and broken nose to keep it closed. Undertaker tried his best. Pastor played some song and then talked. 2 best buds from school and to today talked. The one did allude to it took the explosion at work to finally take him out. Lots of crying......
They made up boards of him from childhood. It is weird to see someone you know only at one stage of life, as they were in different decades. How little we really know someone. He was varsity wrestling three years in a row, dove and swam and other stuff I never knew. And cant see him doing as I knew him.
He was supposed to change beneficiary to a sister and hadnt gotten around to it. So still all to his deceased mother. So it will go through probate with lawyer to his siblings eventually.
They have been good about being here and clearing out his stuff from my house. Amazing the junk we drag through life. It gets easier as stuff leaves...house returns to mine. But, memories of him will be around the farm forever. They loaded the motorcycle Friday. I went out and they had it up on the trailer. For some reason, that hit me hard. Dont know why,to be expected I guess ;it goes too. Just so used to seeing it sitting there.
Family wants nothing from community and I dont know about from company. I know the lawyer who is his best bud is pissed and wants to go after them. I agree. As far as I am concerned, they murdered him. OSHA had gone after them before for the corn dust in the plant.
So like mom said...wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident. And since we never know when the Grim Reaper plans to sweep us up in his wings...remember someone will have to deal with all those dirty dishes you plan to wash when you get home. And toss those ripped clothes you might wear for something one day.
And yes..write your wishes down and organize your papers so someone can deal with it.
RIP my friend. You will be sorely missed.
