I think most people don't change their own oil because you can get it done at Wal-Mart for the cost of oil and filter. If you do it at home you have to deal with disposal of the old oil. It makes sense for everyone to pay to have it done. Cooking on the other hand is easy and saves a ton of money.

I love watching "America's Test Kitchen" on PBS. I bought their cookbook that covers something like 16 or 17 years of the show's recipes for only $19.95. I also bought a copy for my son's fiancé and plan on buying more as gifts. It is a heavy hardback book approximately 2" thick and over 1000 pages long. A recipe book to last a lifetime. Think of your mom's Betty Crocker or Julia Child cookbook.

In the show, they have a staff that makes dozens or many times more attempts at a recipe until they get the best results and then present those results to you by actually cooking the dish for you. They also have blind taste tests of differing commercially prepared items such as cheese or dinner rolls, etc. They also rate and choose best kitchen gadgets such as knifes or kitchen towels, etc.

I recommend the show to anyone and you can even watch shows on-line if you're thinking about making a certain dish.

Bon appetit!

I wouldn't trust Wal*Mart to change the oil in my rides.

I do it myself, but I bought an extended warranty on my BMW because I had a transmission oil leak (the trans isn't reparable, and a new one is $10K.) To take it out was 10 hours of labor at a BMW dealer, the only place I'd trust to do it right. The dealer charged BMW several thousand dollars under warranty, yikes!

Now the car is out of warranty, so to ensure there aren't any problems over repairs under the extended warranty, I'll have the dealer service the car.

Why bother and just get a new car? Well this is the best car I have ever owned!

Autozone will recycle your oil. Some Wal*Marts do it too.

I think that women would rather have sex than cook and they'd gleefully burn in HELL for eternity before having sex. I'd cook for me, she'd be on her own if she's too lazy to feed herself. It's just being lazy! What makes a woman appealing if there's nothing she brings to the relationship? She WON'T cook, she WON'T clean, she WON'T run errands, she WON'T have sex (Inside the marriage anyhow) and HER money is HER money and HIS money is HER money too. What is there to make her appealing to men? She contributes nothing to the relationship, takes everything he brings like money and yet demands everything be her way. The whole thing seems extremely self centered to me.

I'm not crawling under some truck in the middle of January to change the oil, suzi. But I know it needs to be done. That's what the dealership is for. Nice and warm, watch the game, maybe read the paper and they'll be done in 20 minutes if there's no one ahead of me.

Amen sister.

Not everyone enjoys heating up the kitchen and standing behind/checkin up on a fuxkin stove/oven. Lol. Doesn't make it pathetic.

I can afford to eat out anyways. No offense to the people that can't or the people that enjoy cooking.

Well said.
Of course I could cook, and with time I would be better at it. Or starve to death.
But I just don't like to.
And..For a single person it just doesn't make sense.
I can get a foot long subway sandwich for $6.
Eat half of it and save the other half for tomorrow.

I think learning to cook is essential and no.. It's not cute/funny/endearing to parade around like it's beneath you.

The commercial from that show "worst cooks in america" made me come up with this topic.

Cooking isn't complicated. You can get frozen vegetable in pouches, and all sort of other foods semi or totally prepared. Sandwiches suffice in hot weather.

Where I live the restaurants are located along a strip of road I call grease alley. I couldn't bear to eat that garbage everyday. Of course, I'd take my fine lady out at least once a week for a fine meal.

My mom was a terrible cook, that's just the truth, but I can make simple reasonable meals without too much trouble. Anyway, looking at the waistlines of people, no one is starving to death in America.

With my 10 Qt Power pressure cooker, Foodsaver vacuum sealer and freezer, I eat like a king.

Thursday night I cooked (not really-just dumped 8 boneless chicken breasts and a bottle of BBQ sauce in the pot) and 25 minutes later had heavenly BBQ chicken. Ate 2 then sealed up 3 separate bags and froze them.

Every Thursday night I repeat the process with a new recipe. Ive got 15 or so recipes.

Every other night I pull out a bag of whatever from the freezer, pop it in some hot water in a pot and presto.

Too easy.

People love coming over and doing a freezer meal.

Mmmmm..I am a picky eater.

You frequent Subway, how picky can you be??

I'm a good cook and you'll eat what I make for you mister or no dessert for you!

Cooking well, like anything else takes practice. I think some people just don't want to learn because cooking well is hard work.

No it does not. Cooking well is easy. Now cooking a perfect meal every time , that takes work.

I started learning how to cook when I was six years old and I have only made two meals that could not be salvaged.
