Checking on how it will affect Puerto Rico since that's where my 20 yr old daughter is right now. But she's staying in an all-concrete building.

Sparks. All of NC is in a state of emergency. It kind of scares me because years ago Hugo hit and devastated the city, and it wasn't supposed to go inland. Please keep us updated on your situation.

The news says different crap ..every time i see them mention something.

They say this thing has the destruction power of 300 tornadoes , spinning altogether at once.

They are also stating its 400 miles wide.

..and will hit Florida central area then travel north directly through Ga , straight up its center and then turning east after hitting TN. & N.Carolina.

Thats a lot of wind.

News also claims ...every city hotel along I-75 , from Valdalsta ..reaching up into Central GA.'s City of Warner Robins ...are all currently filled up by Florida evacuee's.

They say travel is already becoming more difficult as more evacuee's are still arriving.

If anyone has ever been through a major hurricane, as I have, they know how devastating it can be. There is really no telling where they may hit. Irma is a real b*tch, like Hugo was.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm not so sure of that Sparky. Not that freezing cold is fun or snow up to your butt in one storm and -40 at night with colder wind chills, but there's no damage, usually no deaths.

no but got woods behind me and a house on each side to break force of the wind,,im in the back off the park with private yards,,

im sure its going to be strong, but have everything i need, candles, water, can goods, grill is filled, plenty of dog food,,ill fill tubs ,and everything is in shed or back porch..

if roof comes off i got a good roofer
some of these people leave all their stuff outside
last storm a few of us got together
and went house to house helping others bring lawn stuff in

theres been 25 percent more people moved to florida last 2 years
so alot are not used to these storms

ive had houses down here since 05

and my parents since the 80s..

all you can do is prepare for the worst and pray for the best..

Im on my way into central Atlanta ..from Central GA, 2 hours south.

For a morning rrpair job.
..and I-75 is crazy bumber to bumper traffic across all four lanes. With Convoys of cars with Florida tags.

Many are poking and backing up local morning work travelers.

All the way up into the Gainesville GA area.

Its a frckn mess.

Fla. homes are typically built by putting in footers, then laying a block foundation and the rough plumbing is laid in, then then they fill all that in with hard packed sand, then pour concrete over it.

Then proceed up with block walls....and go from there.

So...unlike a home built with wood on a foundation of block like in most places....there is no way water can get in thru the gaps between the block and wood, because there isn't any gaps....because its a continuation of block and no wood resting on a foundation.

The only way flooding water can get in is thru the gaps in the doors and windows....and garage door.

So, if these gaps were Caulked in real good....in theory, no way water can get in.

I'd do that...Vs...sand bagging....and a lot less work too.

Then get in my car and leave the state.

I've been living in Oregon for many years but I'm from Florida. grew up in hurricane alley. the last hurricane I was in was hurricane opel. she was a bad ass. irma makes opel look like chump change. if you live in Florida don't wait for them to ask you to leave. I imagine the traffic northbound are already a mess. the people on the panhandle have less distance to travel to leave. the people below the panhandle don't.
