Wow! Serenity, This is some amazing work. Do you ever sell your pieces? I know you're not interested in me, but I'm interested in your work. It's beautiful. I'm just starting some clay work and trying to get myself started back to drawing. I used to do a lot. Do you do any woodburning on your turned pieces. I have a native American drawing that I want to burn onto a piece of wood, but don't want to ruin it. You are very talented. I love wood-carving, burnings, turnings, etc. I love the beauty and variety of the grain and just love the satiny feeling of a finished piece, although I've never done any woodwork. I'm very tactile. That's why I was trying clay. I don't have to buy a lot of equipment to do it. Let me know if you have pieces for sale. Thanks, Kelly

Serenity, I am soooooooooo jealous. You have an actual wood shop, and apparently a roomy one at that. Do you think if I came over a talked real nice to her she would run off with me? (the shop that is) You even have a ONEWAY lathe. (excuse me while I wipe the drool off my shirt)

Actually, I'm just getting back into woodworking after about 30 years. I live in Springfield, so I have close access to the Grizzly Tool Store. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. But I do have quite a few of the requsite tools for decent woodworking. Unfortunately, I am currently having to work in a very small garage, which is not heated. All of my power tools are on wheels except my large lathe and I have a mini that is still in the box.

I'm also an Over-the-Road trucker, so my time in the shop is very limited. But I do get some work done. The last major project was an heirloom cradle for my Nephew's first child. Most of my lathe work is custom canes, walking staffs and an occasional pen.

I really want to find the time to try some bowls and hollow vessels. I really like your segmeted work. That 5' vase must have been an interesting project and I love your Easter Vase.

So, I guess the answer to your question would be .... YES, I like woodturning and most other woodworking as well.

Mike

Serenity, as I have told you in the past that is a georgous piece. This shows the inner you. You express yourself so well in your work. Would love to learn to do this someday. What ya charge for lessons? Second question I guess is could I afford you as an instructor? Huggs hon. Just stopped by to let you know your work still amazes me.

WOW...Serenity...that is a beautiful piece of work!

I am very uneducated on woodturning and just stopped in "hobbies" to see the basic topics. My Father dabbles in wood carving. He has made some pretty neat things, such as fish! He is 80 years old and I admire him and any other gentleman who can create works of art with their hands...with the help of a few tools..of course!

Bravo to you!!

I just joined a few days ago and came across this thread. I must say from one turner to another that piece is beautiful. I am in the process of building a webpage for both of my business' and I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I have been crankin' out bowls and platers for a while now. I first bought a mini Rikon and was hooked from there. I just purchased a Nova 1624-44 2 wks ago. and I have built it even sturdier for the bowls I plan to do over 16'. I purchased the outrigger set to go along w/it and it is awesome. I am into photography as well. I own a small company called Pet Shots and hope to go national when the eco. gets a little better. Again, real nice work! Stay in touch. Jerry N. Smith

Wade, once again you have managed to impress me with you work. The segmented bowl is very nice and the Vase is beautiful. I really like the use of the spalted wood in the shoulder area. What are the woods used and what is the finish on this piece? The wet look really sets off the beauty of the wood.

Please know that my prayers are with you and your family for the loss of your family member.

As for your invitation, you never know when I'll get it into my mind to take the motorcycle out for a ride and wind up in Mountain View.

Keep turning brother, you have a real gift.

Wow, your turnings are very beautiful. I am a carpenter and a
long time woodworking hobbiest, but I just started turning less
than a year ago when a lathe just kinda came to me. A friend of a
friend type deal and I try to give attention to things that come to
me. I never really paid any mind to lathes before, just kind of
overlooked the machine that I thought was only good for baseball
bats. Boy was I missing out, I love turning now, as much as I have
cut and glued and smelled and built with wood, I had never before
found myself slamming on the breaks if I saw someone had cut down
a tree and set the logs at the curb just to see what the inside
of the tree was like. I now see trees in a way I never did before,
and it is crazy what beautiful grain I have found on accident really
just getting to know my lathe and playing with my very cheap knives.
Any way I hope that if I keep turning that one day I can create
something even half as cool as what you have shown here. How long
have you been turning for anyway?

Peace,
Dan

I haven't had much experience with the wood lathe. Last time I turned was in high school 22 years ago. I made a chess board out of oak and black walnut. I was looking for chess pieces at some of the local stores and got an idea to turn out my own. I went to my dad's shop and just started turning on a whim, no patterns or jigs. The work is not quite like yours OP, but I sure did enjoy the challange and even more, bonding with my dad! Enjoy......

I think that is a very beautiful piece and very fitting for the occasion. I've always wanted to work with wood but don't quite know how to get started. Any suggestions?

How long have you been working with wood and what does "woodturning" mean?

I have been doing wood turning 5 years last December, but been into woodworking since I was a kid.

I`m mostly self taught.
I do allot of reading books on woodworking & wood turnings.
There is allot of sights on google, that might help to get started.
There is groups in about every town that you can join too.

Wood turning is done on a lathe, and all kinds of things can be made like,{ink pens, bowls, platters, vases, chalices, jewelry, candle stick holders, segmented things, etc. etc.} the mind is the only limitation.

Here is another crop circle,,its has 409 pieces in it.

Nice job, Serenity, how long did it take you to do it? Wow, is all I can say.
I would be into woodworking, probably, if I had power tools. My only woodworking tool is a Stanley miter box, which I used to attach molding to some shelves (bathroom remodeling). Molding turned out to be quite a pain you know where, I only wish that I owned a nice router to do without molding. Which is a project of the future, along with the turning.
Keep up the good work.

Wade, once again you have impressed me with your wonderful work.

I am curious as to how the Crop Circles were created.

Did you turn different diameters of dowels and drill holes to glue them into?

Is that Maple and Walnut?
