Or do they just put that in their profile to have a mutual interest with a potential male? And by camping, I don't mean the 36' rv with hot shower and ac.

Funny thing about camping is that it can be a really miserable experience. Or quite the opposite. My early memories of camping when I was a wee lad with my parents are not pleasant. Sunburn, skeeter bites, too hot or cold, the list goes on and on. But as an adult I somehow got good at it. Specifically beach camping.

Living where I do, there are a few uninhabited barrier islands on which I like to camp. I've taken my family when the kids were young and we (just like with my parents) had both good experiences and bad. But again, over the years I've gotten better.

Better camping to me means better equipment and technique. If I want my current lady to have a good time I have to be able to provide for her needs "out there" and make her comfortable. If the weather turns bad we have to be able to wait it out in a tent that doesn't leak or under a tarp. We have to have some way to bathe or there isn't likely going to be any er, uhm, adult playtime.

But when all goes well and she gets to see the sunrises and sunsets out there, gets to eat some truly fresh seafood, participate in cooking and living on soft sand, relax in the warm sun, etc. all the while wearing minimal clothing, the hope is always that she will fall in love with the beach as much as I have.

So, how about it ladies (who have camping as an interest in your profile) do you really like camping?

Edited to add that I plan to cross post this on another forum. A gratuitous copy/paste.

Yes, back in the day...loved to camp. That's how we would just get->> away. We had a great box which housed our "camping gear". The stove, utensils, spices, pots/pans etc. Kind of a kitchen on the go. We had the van to sleep in which had the cushions. Yes, I've also done the tent camping.
Now...I feel I know how it's just like you said...showers and comfort just makes it all the more enjoyable, plus dryer. When younger I guess I was just more adaptable....LOL

I truly enjoy camping, so long as there's something between me and the hard ground when I sleep, and there's at least a non-poisonous clump of bushes far enough away from the campsite for purposes of relief.

And yes, ocean...what's better than breakfast outdoors?

OH yes I really love camping...

How bout loading a pack on your back and hiking in the Olympic Mountains, getting to your point and setting up that tent you carried in as well, and finding what you need to start that fire, then using a toilet paper roll and some fishing line and a hook going to the little stream to catch your dinner...

OH yes and digging a hole to use the bathroom in...

DO I LOVE camping?

I like camping "rough style" -- in a tent. Sure, you can have a few amenities to improve your comfort level, provided you have the room, such as an air mattress, battery-operated lamps, etc. I have no problem with a pop-up camper, or even a travel trailer, but when you start getting into the RV's, that's no longer camping. You might just as well stay home then.

In my experience, most womens' idea of camping is the Hyatt Regency.

Women and camping don't mix.

Why? Because they look like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards in the morning and there isn't a readily available bathroom where they can make themselves presentable.

Hmmmmm...Let's see. I can't commit to an answer. I went camping alot as a kid. Haven't been in YEARS. So it sounds like it would be a blast. However, what I loved as a 8 year old girl....is probably completly changed now. So I want to say yes...but hell.....I am guessing I would need to be drunk.

With the possible exception of the odd smoked-out, unwashed and unshaven Hippie chick or lesbian Wiccan, you can pretty much forget women enjoying anything that does not involve a combustion engine, room service, air conditioning, central heating and a large credit card bill paid by someone other than her.

Well, adult beverages are a part of my camping trips. It's the last line of defense in case things get really miserable and it's good for minor cuts and abrasions too.

You are so wrong!!! I love fishing!!! I like camping and I don't consider the Hyatt camping.... nor do I consider a cabin camping... those are both different and I like them too!

Camping on the beach? WHOO HOO! That would be combining 2 of my loves. Thunder took me camping this past summer. I LOVED it, we had a great time and I can't wait until Spring to go again. His profile picture is from our campsite. I don't think I'd want anything more than our little tent ~ it's our perfectly cozy home away from. The picture of him alone on my profile was taken inside the tent.

One of the times we went camping it was POURING when we got there. During a break in the weather we got the dining fly up an then sat huddled on the table under the canopy when it started raining again. I wouldn't change a drop!

I'd love to try truly roughing it, not a campsite.

I do have one question, though....do they make car power cord adaptors for laptops?

I'M JUST KIDDING!

OP, you will always find people who list things they have no interest in just to attract someone. You'll find out pretty quickly if it's not true!

So your underlying question is: are women liars. Cuz that's what you're really asking me.

I lead a youth group. We have a wilderness survival campout scheduled this weekend that I'm not going to be able to make due to personal issues but I have and do camp when it's single digits, tho' I'm a sauna lover so prefer to camp when it's hot, bugs and sweat and all. I have camped on crutches where it was a half mile hike to the dining hall and the first 500 yards was down a steep, muddy ridge with only exposed tree roots for foot purchase.

We camp about once a month, all twelve months of the year. After this wildnerness survival campout, our next scheduled campout is mid-January. Kentucky is very, very cold in the winter--often colder than Anchorage.

Rain, bitter cold are not my favorite venues, but I do it and it's usually a fantastic fun adventure in the retelling. It's the more arduous ones that become the most memorable ones. Fuel line freeze up in the camp stoves, so cold it was hard to get the fire to light from the embers, steel kybo seats at 10 above zero...winds blowing tents over and widow makers.

I personally have four sleeping bags. I don't have them taking up space in my garage as DH profile props.

/tune of Home on the Range/

Oh give me a spot,
on a porcelain pot
Where the water runs tidy bowl blue
With electricity, and cable TV
And I will go camping with you

Chorus:
I'm not Daniel Boone,
I don't wanna sleep under the moon.
Or cook on a stick, or wrestle a tick,
Or pitch a tent in a monsoon.

As I lay here at night
And I scratch every bite,
Pick ashes and twigs from my stew (ewe)
I look down at my toes,
And I ask as they froze
Why do I go camping with you?

Chorus

As I leave these tall oaks,
And go back to my folks,
And you know that I've missed them a lot (not)
But after a week, the first think I seek
Is that shiny white porcelain pot.

Chorus

camping is the ultimate get-away...never tried it on the beach, but our mountains are beautiful...in the summer,I always have a cooler, fishing pole, and small box of gear in my small suv...never know when I have a chance to just go...more fun with someone, but I have been known to go after work, just to be able to wake-up in the mountains and peace...

Fun camping really only requires a decent tent, T-paper, a sleeping bag, Bisquick and Spam. Everything else is just extra.

If you wanna lighten the load, leave the T-paper and tent...

I'm not a true camper... but I do love spending time in the outdoors. I don't like sleeping in an RV. I wanna sleep in a sleeping bag in a tent or right under the stars.

Here is what I am ashamed to admit... I like to be at parks and whatnot where I can at least go and wash up... I know that's not true camping but that's what I like. I don't mind going where there are none of those commodities though, just not my top choice!

I myself own a camper. I have it on my own lot at a awesome camp ground near where I live. Thats my pass time during summer. I stay there a lot, it gets me away from the home life, plus I have awesome camping neighbors and family who have there campers near mine. I also have a tent that sleeps 5 people. Just in case they want to tent it. When I did have a family at one point in my life, We did go to different camp sites in different states and we loved every second of it. Most woman I know personally love camping either way. Even the ones that I am friends with here on DH that I know personally love camping. We have talked about it at sometime or another, and I have invited them here to camp this summer coming if they would like. Its a awesome thing to do, its relaxing, gets you away from everything. and you can really enjoy everyones company.

I do like camping but have come to the point in my life that I have to have to many modern conveniences due to health. There is no better breakfast than the breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, homemade biscuits made over an open fire...yes I know how to do make the biscuits over the fire. I prefer tent camping but now would have to stay in a cabin or motor home and that just isn't "REAL" camping in my opinion.

Being from central PA, nearly every girl I have ever been with was into camping...as in "drive up" camping...pull into a place and set up a tent, whatever. My ex wife and I had a camp to go to, so we didn't need a tent.
I have done extensive backpacking through my life, and have lots of gear for that. I have yet to meet a girl who was into doing a backpacking trip, though. The shortest worthwhile trail here is a 50 mile loop trail that is fairly challanging. Takes 2.5 to 3 days to do, depending on the weather. I would like to do that with a women. Being so secluded would be fun. But I usually end up doing it with guys, instead. (we each carry our own tents, thanks!)

I have lived and worked in some truly amazing places out west here and have done alot of backpacking, and camping in the wilds of the west. I have come across 3 kinds of ladies in the camping world. The kind that should never go camping. The kind that are so good at camping and being able to deal with the wilds. And the kind the just haven't yet had the experience of it, but would be able to deal with it because of there awesome attitude and nature.

I will never forget taking these two women "they were tourists" backpacking down into the Grandstaircase Escalante Nat'l Mounument. Both of them were from Pennsylvania. The one girl was so cool and handled everything really good. The other started to have a nervous breakdown and started to cry. She had never seen anything like it. She did'nt think it was normal to be out in the middle of nowhere, "there were no people around" and had never truly experienced solitude. The girl that was crying, I felt so bad for her She was really hyperventilating. I assured her, that nothing was going to happen to her. That the rattlesnakes, scorpions, killer bee's, bats, lizards, the posionous spiders, Mountain lions, Bobcats, Coyote's, and all of natures little creatures were not going to get her.

When we got to where we were going to camp out. I really felt bad because she had never squated in the wild. I gave her my hand shovel and said "dig a little hole and bury it". WOW, have you ever seen a crazy look in a woman's eye!!! Anyways me and the other girl got her calmed down. We had a nice dinner, a couple of drinks, a nice fire, we watched the shooting stars, the Milkyway, the moon rise, it was really great. The crying only started when the coyote's started howl and echo in the night sky!

The crybaby girl did end up sending me a postcard when she got back to her home and thanked me for taking her on the most amazing experience that she had ever had in her life and that she truely love the experience. I never heard from her again.

It was just a short little 14 mile backpack trip! It was fun, and I'll be honest it was quite entertaining to me!

I forgot to add I think the most entertaining thing was when the little cottontail bunnies would jump out of the bushes and how that girl would scream and cry was really kinda funny!

I really do like camping. Been going since I was a child. And yes, I am "woman"! You do need to know the "ropes" ie....a lot of sandwiches, rain soaked clothes that u hang on the clothesline that u engineered betwix 2 trees. Bathing is a real fun time, take the soap down to the lake water (at night) and just soap up! Make sure you have your partner while doing this excersise. Be careful where you squat to go peepee, Poison Ivy does really get bad at times!! But the evening campfire and the songs you sing & the fish stories you hear....classic rock & roll in the back ground. doesn't get too much better!!! BTW, I did trade my tent for a camper & now that I am older I like my motorhome. Tent camped for more than 30 yrs tho.

^^^^ THAT would be very cool! Thunder and I have talked about camping that way. He's been breaking me in slowly! Before we went the first time he told me that makeup attracts bears, LOL!!!! I told him then it's a good thing I wear very little makeup ~ I'll attract only little, itty bitty bears! I think I did ok! Maybe this spring we'll go for really roughing it.

EDIT: WOW, I type REALLY slowly on my laptop! My response was to moral's hiking!

Plenty of Black Bears here.
My closest encounter while solo backpacking was sleeping in a hammock with a tarp strung over me...and I was so tired that I decided to not hang my food bag, as I usually do, and just tossed my backpack under the hammock. I awoke to the sound of rustling under me, and instinctively reached out to see what was there....and placed my hand atop a bear's head. It scared him, luckily (thank you, God!) and he bolted. I never fell back asleep that night.
The loop trail I mentioned in the earlier post is INFESTED with bear. I always carry pepper spray now.
A little known fact is that a Grizzley bear will SOMETIMES attack you just to show his stregnth and territory, beat you up and walk away...your chances of survival are quite good, actually, if you know how to deal with it. But a Black bear (which is much smaller) will only attack you for one reason...and that is to kill you. (usually fearing for it's young, or due to starvation) So it is good to know the territory you are in so you can know ahead of time what you may be encountering, and how to deal with it.

I really do like camping but there are some necessities like an air mattress (I'm getting too old to sleep directly on the ground).

Therma-Rest pad.

1 pound of self inflating sleeping luxury! Turns a rocky clearing into a 5 star comfort resort!

Yabbut that is Not Good(tm) in cold weather camping...that air space remains cold and keeps you chilled to the bone all night, even in a 0-degree bag.

The therma rest self inflating is the only way to go. Screw the air mattress.

Light weight is a good thing when backpacking!

You can BURN everything else in my pack...just keep your grubby paws off my Therma-Rest!!

I got a full sized pro-lite and a 3/4 sized thicker one. You can not feel a thing under either. I usually carry the pro-lite, as I like something under my knees, too. The comfort is well worth the 19 ounces.
I'd rather forget the food, than that!

I will never forget this one lady camping. She was squatting and fell on her turd!! That poor woman! She was a good sport about it though. Everyone gave a hard time about it all in fun. We ended up cutting a hole in a camping chair just for her the rest of the trip.
