No matter what the reason, sleeping alone after years of having a bed partner is the absolute worst. There is no such empty feeling as being partner-less during the wee hours of the morning. Does anyone feel my pain?

Completely agree, but after a while you get used to it. Or block it out until it comes back to haunt you. I just stay very busy.

I understand what you mean, for years I used to reach over and touch her in my sleep,then when she was gone I find myself waking up after reaching over and not feeling her. you feel alone.

I sleep with my puppy
not having legs past the knee is odd cause when u roll side to side u have to wake up to turn ya body Now thats odd
Try it I dare ya try to get around without using that part of ya body.

Laying down in my bed without my dear sweet Toni is like laying down in the Grand Canyon, big and empty. She's been gone 7 months now and I still sleep on the couch some nights. I'm thinking about getting a different bed, I don't know if that will help.

It has been two years and I still sleep on the couch occasionally.

I went a number of years without dating, and hence, not sleeping next to someone.
When I started dating again, it was weird having someone in bed with me. I remember this one time I woke up in the middle of the night and she was no longer there. I found her on the couch sleeping. I woke her up and asked what happened. Like, did I fart or something? She laughed and said no, but I had chased her out of the bed while I was sleeping. I guess I was taking up too much space.
I have gotten better about this.

Yes I too understand. I have nightmares, restless sleep and toss and turn alot when I'm alone. Always waking up wide a wake in the middle of the night, have trouble getting to sleep etc.
But when I was sleeping with someone I slept like a baby all through the night. Weird.

I don't think anybody could actually imagine that. I never actually thought about the mechanics of turning in bed either.

I actually got a new bed, new sheets and new pillows the works. I also change the furniture arrangement. It helped.

I was really rather used to it...sure it bothered me but well there are things you can tolerate and there are things you can't
Then came along something really nice to sleep with...it took just a little bit of time to get used to him there...then just as I did he was gone...
Now I have to get used it to all over again...

I remember when I went through that.... and it was really difficult. Now, it's actually nice sleeping by myself.
However, I do have a couple of tips: Please remember, these are temporary suggestions-intended just to get you over the "hump"
If you have a piece of clothing, or pillow, or anthing that has the scent of the person you miss, tuck that near your nose as you float off to sleep. This sounds silly, and I thought it was goofy too - but, I was so desperate, I tried it... and was amazed.
A body pillow, snuggled next to your back, or under your knee, or under your forearm is helpful. They are long pillows - in case I've used the wrong title for them. If you combine this with the scented article, it can be very helpful.
And, what others mentioned, a pet... is helpful. Well, unless it's a fish... fish don't snuggle well.....
If you can handle it, a fan - it makes some noise, ... so it takes some of the emptiness out of the room. I really like a fan anyway.
A nightlite will help so that if you wake up at night - you will have less of a "surprise" that there isn't someone there.
Anyway, it IS hard to get through, but, it does get better.

The only thing hate about being single is sleeping alone. I hate sleeping alone, other than that, I prefer the single life much better. Sleeping alone is the only time I get lonesome.

Been sleeping alone now since November and I don't think I will ever get over having my wife of 15 years to hold close and bury my nose into her neck. Doesnt help either that someone else has been holding her close for a year and a half! Tried the pillows, tried the scented shirt, and there are nights that nothing can take away the pain and loneliness

I hate sleeping alone. The hardest part was the first few months after my fiancée was killed. Tried the whole new bed, sheets, pillows, etc...but that didn't help much. Ended up sleeping on the couch curled up and couldn't make muskeg sleep.
Now after 14 years, it's easier but I still hate sleeping alone. Miss curling up with that special person.

I actually enjoy sleeping alone now. My little dog sleeps with me and at times when I hear her breathing and snoring my subconscience thinks "he" is still there..I prefer the extra room so when I find a new man to settle down with we will need a cal king..

Well at first I just piled all the spare pillows on his side so if I woke in the middle of the night it appeared someone was there. It was hard at first but, now after almost 3 years, the extra pillows are thrown in the closet and I still only sleep on my side. I run the ceiling fan for a little hum noise. I'm ok with sleeping alone but the loneliness is the worst.

I've been sleeping alone for 2 years now. Even though 2 years ago I had someone sleeping with me, but still my best memories of sleeping with a woman was more like 8 years ago. So I'm used to it now, I even gave up my king size bed for a 1 person bed.

Yea, especially since i'm a cuddler. I have vivid nightmares time to time and do miss the feel of a man's protection. Imo.
