ubadmonkey Kirkjubæjarklaustur Iceland 95, joined Jun. 2010	perhaps you misunderstood...meds can repress outbrakes, thereby reducing the frequency of outbrakes. they do not cure herpes, nor eliminate the risk entirely. herpes can still be spread during remission. condom or dental dam usage can also reduce the risk, but are by far not fool poof. that being said, why would a person want to be with someone who is so careless and/or uninformed and/or makes poor choices in sexual patners, in general, that they contracted herpes? jmho

iamwhoiam420 Brighton, IA 28, joined Sep. 2010	HELL NO!!! even with medication its still transferable. i would not take a pill just cause my partner had something. i hate pills. there deadly and can kill you. screw that! i get side efffects from pills so i dont do them!! the best way not to get any std is just to not stick it in someone who has it! you can get herpes even when there not broken out. body fluid has it in it! to the 1 who said she trusts a educated doctor... well doctors lie all the time and cant offer some of the main things that help. those little pills they give you for ANYTHING are harmful to your body. they kill your liver and cause harm to other parts as well. so yea you take your pills and let me know how your liver is in 30 years

You can get herpes even if the other person doesn't have an outbreak. OP i heard there are herpes communitites that have dating sites. they label themselves with an H for herpes. i wouldn't date a man who has herpes. it is a life long disease. one i don't want inhabiting my body. there are some people who don't care though. im just not one of them. Herpes can be spread even without a "break out present", Valtrex does not prevent you from spreading or contacting Herpes......It is a medication that tries to compress the breakouts to less severity and for longer periods of time between breakouts. What that means is that before lesions or if lesions are present the carrier is contagious and spreading the virus unbeknownst to them. There are some people that are shedders only. This means they are infected with the virus but exhibit no clinical manifestations of it ( no signs/symptoms). This is an extreme danger in women especially because if she conceives and gives birth naturally then she spreads the virus to her newborn ( giving the baby herpatic encephalopathy which causes severe brain damage and death). Others that have active lesions still shed the virus prior to having visible lesions. The skin surrounding the infected area can become infected as well. Since it is a virus it can't be cured. It can be MANAGED with the use of anti-virals. Having a partner take anti-virals will not prevent them from contracting the STD.

I know that it is believed to be extinct in nature. The first vaccines were exposure to cow pox that resembled the small pox virus close enough that the resulting antibodies prevented small pox. They now have vaccines for HPL as well as herpes zoster virus. It would seem to me that herpes simplex is not so complex that a vaccine could not be developed. Also it seems stupid to me to vaccinate young girls with the HPL vaccine and not young boys. Because there is no such thing that keeps you from catching it. The drugs only suppress it. Once you date them your done your tainted no one in their right mind would ever want to date you. Once you come into contact with someone who has it sometimes it can take months or a few years before you start to show signs of having it. You are also required by law to inform people that you have sexual contact with that you have it.

First and foremost, you all should be using condoms. I have dated men who have had the virus and they were so nevrous when telling me. I have also found that many people out there are not honest about their sexual past and lie to bed you. So therefore, I highly respect a male/female who is honest about contracting a sexually transmitted disease. It demonstrates to me that they are honest, trustworthy and concerned about their health as well as yours. Many people have herpes and do not even know it. 1 out of every 5 have the virus. Some people never show signs or symptoms. Chlamydia shows no signs or symptoms and his rampid. Although there is a cure, it is doing damage to the reproductive system the longer it goes undected. So to all you ignorant men who say "HELL NO," I suggest you educate yourself just as I have done and look deeper into a womens heart and not what is between her legs.
