If you are getting "Root Rot", chances are you are watering too much or too often. It doesn't hurt Tomatoes to dry out just a little between waterings. Be careful not to use high nitrogen fertilizer as it promotes top growth at the expense of root growth. You might try using a gallon milk jug with a small hole in the bottom (medium nail size) and water every 5 days. Soil should usually feel a little damp but not soaked. You might experiment and try letting as couple of your plants dry out completely for a couple of days and check thier health.
