This would depend on the circumstances. I have known men and women who have horrific allergies to pets. Myself I have an fourteen year old English Setter, which is like a family member. However, when he passes I will take a break from having or maintaining a pet.

no not if i knew they didn,t like pets.and if i did not knowing i wouldn,t any longer.i dated a man that said he did.but he never really had anything to do with them.he had pets but never peted them or anything.he thought if he fed them that was tacking care of them.i love my little dog as if she,s my baby.he would get mad if i held it or anything he wouldn,t for me.

No, i am upfront, i keep snakes and they mean alot to me. If a woman cant handle them being around and me giving them attention then its no dice. Theyre part of my life.

Nope, I could never date or be with someone who doesn't like pets. I've had cats and/or dogs all my life. I currently have 3 cats that I have had for 6 years since they were kittens. They are a part of my life and I would not nor will I ever give them up just because someone I might be interested in does not like them. I mean a person who has a child would not give that child up if they met someone who didn't like children would they? I would most certainly think not.
To me I would think a responsible pet owner (not an animal hoarder or crazy dog or cat person) would have quality traits that would be desirable.

You hit it on the head...most of the time, the man who watches my fishing hole property here's pit bit the son of my housesitter the other day for no good reason. I had a wonderful, gentile as could be, one that caught many pigs for me but will not let them in my rentals as usually when they go bad they really go bad. I am still in Florida now doing an eviction on a pit owner instead of enjoying the 70's of Alaska

Absolutely not! He has to love them as much as I do. Which means they are have free roam of the house and sleep in the bed with us if they choose. He has to treat my dogs as if they were his own children. If he has any qualms about it then he is out the door and told to never contact me again

Whiskers, the cat, came over and growled at him. (Yes cats do growl..lol)
Well that ended that. I told the guy, "See Ya". out he went.

No, never would. I do ask. I also would note mentally their reaction when they were around an animal. Since I have German Shepard Dogs they will let me know for sure if the date has less than sweet intentions. The pets are my rule standard to whether I would continue a dating relationship. Pets don't lie and have a sixth sense that they can tune into about human intentions.

I guess it would depend upon just how much they don't like pets... I mean if it's a matter of them not being aware of the fulfillment that one can get from caring for a pet then perhaps I could help them learn (with help from my dog!). But if they're unwavering and anti-pet all the way, then no... I wouldn't date them.
I totally agree! My pets, when I had them, we're members of our family, not just ANIMALS! Personally they brought a lot of happiness in to my life! Unconditional love at its best! No matter how down I was, my dogs could make me smile and laugh.

Agree! My lab totally disliked one man who was a friend of my late husbands, she would growl and pace whenever he came by our home. I already knew him to be a jerk and the lab was spot on in her feelings towards him!

Nope. In fact I threw(literally picked him up by the collar of his shirt) a guy out of my house for slapping my dog a few years ago. He would rough house play w her when he came over. He grabbed her tail...she bit him...he slapped her...I threw him out. My son and dogs were w me b4 a man....they will be with after a man.

You know its not something I have ever given much thought to, but now that you mention it I have had problems with guys that didn't care for animals. Its just so hard to imagine not liking animals, but if your with someone who doesn't it can definitely create problems.

No way. I have a rat terrier and have posted on my profile that I would never give him up for anyone. When I adopted him I.made a commitment. Pals for life. Ive owned a pony.and several cats and dogs. I dont do reptiles. Lol

No..i couldnt because it would hurt my heart to see the looks or actions that the person would undoubtedly be showing to my pets and ive seen many times..in other people..if one person does not lije the pets the animals disappear or the owner is presurred to not keep them..and it hurts the pets to look at someones eyes and actions and know they are disliked..hated..unwanted and it scares them..the person who doesnt like the animals has a soulproblem..i need someone who would love and help protect my animals

I think you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. I love animals and do volunteer work with them so someone who doesn't like them would not work for me.

Major mistake in thinking. Trust me- if they don't like pets, they won't grow to love, or even to like them.
That's a recipe for disaster, and the pets will pay the price, possibly even the ultimate price.
You're best served to move on when you hear that they don't like pets.
