You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

With so many who have lost their beloved pets, both recently or even long ago, and with some facing having to say their final 'goodbye' to their beloved pets (I have to include myself in that group). I thought it would be nice to have a thread to honor them. Please feel free to share their stories, or little anecdotes of how they made you laugh, cry, smile, etc ....

Ok- I am going to say this once. This is a serious thread for pet owners who love and care about their pets and are hurt over their losses. Mockery and nonsense will get you blocked from this thread.

When I was a 15 year old girl, I had a little dog, she was a mixed breed- you could see some airedale in her, but she was small. She died when she was about 8-9 months of age. I didn't know why. I know I loved her to pieces. Back then we didn't know about heartworms, so I kind of wonder now if that's what happened to her. This little dog told me 'goodbye' the night before she passed away. She started barking, which was unusual, and when I went to check on her, she just sat there looking at me, and wagging her tail. I talked to her for a little bit, fed her a slice of bologna, and then told her to go lay down and go to sleep. The next morning, I went to check on her, and she was dead.

RIP Sugar- I've never forgotten you!

I don't know what really happened to the stray cats I took care of. They were much too smart to get hit by a car, even the speeding ones (I live near a big highway). They might have died but they just disappeared, even though I still left out some food and called for them. There were 4 kittens and their momma. They were such sweethearts. They always wanted to get love, even the mother. We were so surprised that she would rub up against our legs since mother animals are usually very protective of their children. I guess she knew we were good people. Either that or she was just way too nice. They were so sweet though lol one of her kittens was an orange kitten and he was the best. Last christmas my current bf came over to hang out and comfort me (I was home alone and thought I heard something....I scare easily lol) well apparently I did hear something and the little orange kitten comes bumbling into my front door. My bf goes to look out the door and the kitten is laying on my porch lol. So we let him in and boy was that an attention loving cat. Lol sorry, I've typed like a book XD

It's heartbreaking to lose our furbabies, so it's good to have a place where we can laugh, cry, and console each other.

I lost Eda about 2 yrs ago and just can't seem to shake it.She was a fast learner a bit aggresive at times loved one of my sons and all 3 grandkids. She just melted when they appeared you could actuually see her smile. With all others she was a bit aggresive even sometimes with me and got worse as she got older ,people would say you need to have her put down.I just couldn't .She was my protector and beutiful sandy brown blond retriver and collie. We were walking one day down the walk and a man started across the street talking and walking and Eda sat up like at attention and began to show all teeth and gave a growl like an angry lion ,never moved from my side ,that man jumped at least 6 ft back and said NO NO I DIDN't MEAN ANYTHING also he said ITS OK HE IS DOING WHAT HE SHOULD I kindof smiled and said I know.I had hold of the chain just
in case.He went the other waykindof diappear:ed quickly .Fromthat moment on there was a
bond between us and I hope each and everyone of you have felt this.I see the bridge and I know she is up in heaven with all the others not growling or sadness just happy and playful.I miss and love yaTo my very own bodygaurd

I had a yellow lab named Bindi. She got hit by a truck. We found her took her to the vet. They did surgery. $4000 and 8 months later she was all healed up. A month after that, she got hit again. She didn't make it that time.

I just had my little man named Taylor put down today. He was a black and white tuxedo cat. He had Hyperesthesia and was getting increasingly aggressive and biting me. Was the hardest decision I ever made because I love him so much. I don't know what I'm going to do without him. I pray that I get some sort of sign that he's ok.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am also sorry I didn't see this sooner. It takes a very long time to heal. My thoughts are with you.

I have buried three Golden Retrievers. The last one was only three. I have mixed breed dogs now.

I just lost my Blue on May 24, 2013. He was a blue Doberman, almost 90 pounds. Only 5 and 1/2 years old, he was seemingly as healthy as could be. He was an inside dog but spent countless hours outside in the yard in decent weather where he loved running and playing. He was extremely athletic and active. He appeared to have dropped while running because his feet were still on a running path that he had made from where he used to run around the yard.

Blue was such a good buddy and was so friendly. He never met a stranger. He was pretty young and this was so sudden I had to know what happened so asked the vet to perform a necropsy. He had just been to the vet a couple of months before to update his shots and was given a clean bill of health. There was no way for anyone to know this, not even the vet would have known this, but he had a small amount of scar tissue on his heart, likely caused by heartworm treatment (he had previously been treated for heartworms approximately 4 years prior). The scar tissue caused an arrhythmia to occur at that time. The arrhythmia didn't allow electrical signals needed to co-ordinate the heartbeat to work properly. It caused the heart to suddenly fail and he just dropped dead. It was explained to me to be similar to when seemingly health student athletes suddenly drop dead from heart failure in the middle of a game.

I guess I went into a little detail about this just in case anyone else has experienced a similar event with their pet. It might shed some light on what could have happened.

Thank you iamreese. Red Dobermans are very striking with their color combination of a red coat with tan points.

I was going to post a photo of Blue but since I haven't been a member long enough I can't post images in any of the forums.

I am 62 years old & have had dogs ever since I can remember. I have loved & lost so many wonderful animals. Each time, the pain is indescribable! It doesn't get easier, but I couldn't live without one! There is NO love or loyalty like that of a beloved pet!!! Your husband may leave you, your children grow up & go off to make families of their own, but your pet will always stay...until God calls him/her home.

My boy, Tanner just turned 12 on July 1st of this year. He is blind & deaf, has congestive heart failure, along with some other health issues. The vet says he's not in pain, & doesn't feel I should "put him down" yet. He said Tanner will let me know when it's time. As I said, it doesn't get easier!!! My heart is breaking to know that he has very little time left!!! I will miss my old friend The only consolation I have is knowing that he & all of my other precious pets will be waiting for me at the "Rainbow Bridge"

My 17 year old cat, Bailey, just passed away on the 14th. I knew it was time and I was on my way to the vet to have him put down (he could hardly walk, wouldn't eat or drink) and he passed in the car on the way. He was the first pet I had on my own and I'd had him since he was 8 weeks old so it was hard. He was my first baby. I couldn't bare to put him in the ground so I had him cremated.

I had to put Tanner down August 27th. It was a beautiful day...the sun was shining brightly, there was a cool breeze and we spent time together outside. We took a lot of pictures that day of my old friend. A beautiful day to say goodbye. When I looked in his beautiful brown eyes that day; I knew. He was ready to go. And so we petted and licked & scratched & kissed & rubbed his soft blond fur...and said goodbye.
He was cremated and brought home, where he belongs.

With Love To You, Tanner Toes. Keep listening!

I had the smartest most beautiful Doberman he just turned 8 on the 8th on the 10th Monday morning I found him dead in the back room. I'm devastated and still in shock I called the local funeral home and they came and got him and I now have my precious boy's ashes to spread with my husbands ashes, he died 1 year ago and my only daughter was killed in a auto accident close to that time also. Just having the ashes of loved ones is so hard.

So sorry msreese63! I know how that goes. I just had to put down my 16-17 yr old cat last week. She had been blind for 7 years but that didn't stop her from doing anything. She'd lost a lost of weight and then starting having seizures. It was her time to go and just 6 months after my other 17 yr old passed away. All you can do is take it day by day. It's hard not to think about them when they had been a big part of your life.

Im so sorry,Reese...so very sorry.Don't force too much of anything right now...let those precious memories temper the pain, but don't try to completely burry it beneath them. It's ok to mourn, and I am heartbroken that this has happened.Im still crying from reading your inboxed message.I know you loved that dog and he loved you.I wish I had the right words to say.I wish I knew the right thing to do.Every instinct in me frantically wants to "Fix"your hurt,do SOMETHING.If the power and wisdom were mine Id give that dog back his life and you your dog.I wish i had more to offer than a lame and ineffective"Im sorry".

I miss Bullfrog.
She had the gray and brown type bulldog colors, but was sort of a bulldog mix.
She died about three months ago of either distemper or poisoning.
Probably no coincidence the neighbor started building a chicken pen within two weeks later, and started bringing in the supplies for the pen about three days after she died, though she was gentle and couldn't have cared less about a chicken, plus her two year old son got bad sick, and i never found him,and the neighbors dog that nobody would haul away for him nearly died.
They all got sick at the same exact time, and though they ate together, and slept together, why didn't her month old puppies get the least bit sick if it was distemper.
They slept with these big dogs as well, but however, they didn't go in the neighbors yard, but these three big ones often did together.

Her baby (little frog) was ran over in the lower driveway about two weeks later, where outside idiots turn there at times, then about ten days or so ago, another of her last litter was ran over by a pill head with no business this far back,so bullfrog only has one baby left.
I'll just be blunt about this,i had bullfrog for nearly 8 Years ago,and i just wanna peel some heads, then break every windshield of every vehicle that pulls in my driveway just to turn around, after her babies were run over.
If something happens to Mika,i probably will be going nuts.
She's in my profile pics,a little chihuahua.

I lost Abby almost a year ago. She was a 180lb Newfoundland. I came home from work and I would see my dogs in the window, happy to see me.... oneday she wasn't there. I miss her so much... she was my gentle giant with the newfie lean. I love you, pretty girl.

I cry everytime i hear the words Rainbow Bridge. As i have lost several pets over the years. I lost Peaches March 17 of this year and i am not sure about Tom Tom . he had surgery yesterday to remove his tail due to an injury. He may need to be put down if he is paralyzed and can't walk. He can't stand up to walk and he scoots his rear legs across the floor.

Tonight I lost my "baby" to cancer. I had 10 wonderful years with him. It was one of the hardest things I could do.

Sorry to hear this. Remember all the good memories you had with him over the last 10 years. I know you miss him and that is very hard to lose a pet. God Bless You.

If he's paralyzed that doesn't mean he has to be put down. Get a cart to hold is back end.

I believe that Tom Tom's injury may have not been as bad as it is now. I say the vets are at fault on this one. I called Apr. 10 and they put him off and off and off until his condition got worse. I am going to tell them tomorrow when i go to the office.

Take him home!!! They can`t and don`t have time to do anything but give shots and torture them. Was sick the last one I took in. Was dieing from the furnace repair but no reason to torture it. Sorry Autumn but in the Bucyrus paper today a man kept a stray dog over night since the pound was closed. Found out it died and gave his dog parvo.

I am going to bring him home. I blame them for his condition now. I have had several cats that have died after they were at the vets office. Charlie, Mariah, Pepper and Kryee. Kryee was just 4 months old. Also they misread Sam's condition[dog] as he had a stroke and didn't. This was proven by two other vets.

Thank You. He is still with me but his breathing is shallow. I still think the vets did something that i don't know about. he was fine when he came home. Eating and drinking amd i took him on the porch. This all happened within a week.
