I had. 1975 corvette stingray with 4 barrel quadrajet carbs and for a while it did like 5 miles to the gallon until I tuned it up and fixed it up. Change all the front end bushings and all that with Muncie 4 speed it was worth the trouble. My wife at the time called it a jet !!! Haha
I have a 71 stingray that gets 16...not too bad

Big motor + turbos...I reckon you were also geared pretty tall. Turbo'd cars generally get pretty good gas mileage anyways. They aren't like blown motors.

I just got rid of my 92GMC 1500. Was my daily driver at 11mpg, I drive about 60 miles per day plus any weekend driving I did to pick up my kids. It cost me over $650 per month to feed that thing, but I loved it. It was big, loud, and fast. Now I have a 2005 cts, much more efficient and quieter!

hold on to your hats, I've got you all beat. I had a 1970 Cadallic Elderodo Fleetwood With the 500 mobile home big block, and it came with a Elbrock 850 double pumper 4 barrel. i swear it was one hell of a fun car but it not only made me cry when i had to fill it up , but the gas station pumps as well. i just watched as the gas guage droped between engine idles alone. and if you reved the throttle up, you lost a quarter tank threw the exhaust.
