Its obvious humanity is far developed And Far from primitive ways of life......many aren't In touch with the necessary skills to survive the elements for more then a few days in my opinion just curious of what others views are......Im not saying im Some Les Stroud either lol.....i just have a strong interest in self reliance and being able to sustain this ability

To many of us who know and think we can to really expect any of us to make it if there was real trouble. Only so much sweetbrier, cat tail root, boletts, rabbits etc. County boy would be killing country boy to survive very shortly-think about it? Not like it was when only the Native Americans were here. Now if you are talking lost for a few months-yes,but I sure do not want to!

To many people to do that, Farmers & Ranchers are nessasary for the masses to survive, Wild game would be gone in very short order and you will be on maggots & grasshopers

Thanks yall appreciate the convo on the subject....totally agree and see your point to how fast todays population of humanity would kill off most game.. I guess i just feel way more in the world dont have the skills to trap or kill game...i know many do too still...
To better specify what i said.......do you feel you could be in TRUE remote completely isolated wilderness and maintain a livable life out there??

Yes. i spent two summers back in the 80's as a survival mission. there was 5 of us and we had to learn to live of the land for six months. onle 3 of us made it to the end. i was so impressed with my ability to do stuff that i went back the following year to do it again. . so yea. i have spent the rest of my life putting my skills to good use. from trapping to hinting , fishing , knowing what plants to eat, building a fire without matches , building a shelter. all those things have come in handy over the years. its a great experiance.

Big props to you mudrat ......sounds like it was alot of fun and must have been a big boost in confidence being one of the three to make it.....what methods are your most preferred for starting a fire from scratch mud?

If this new Middle Eastern virus breaks out we may all want to try living out there. Never tried the fire thing but always have a Bic and a pack of damp proof matches in my pack. I live mainly off of wild game & fish but have never had the desire to do what mudrat did. I have years of supplies stocked in Florida & at my Alaska cabins so I will not go without!

Its always wise to be prepared that bics only gonna go so far gas doesn't last a lifetime but the skills of creating Fire without it will....

I always keep a magnifing glass in my pack. also cotton balls with vasoline. flint and steel or a good supply of water proof matches. I've don't the stick and string one but it don't work very good when stuff is wet. . even just a piece of clear glass with work if the sun is out. best thing to do is practice different ways of fire starting. that way you are knowledgable in different ways.
