I caught those comments low no wonder steves a favorite at media events He always stirs the pot I would'nt go so far as to say He's done nothing at SC though
Yes he has changed the culture at Carolina Just by winning 11 games 3 straight years, getting the best Carolina high school players to stay home, and by getting Carolina to the point where they are beating Clemson but he has not even won a SEC East title during his time there... Saban has won National Titles at 2 programs and has won SEC Titles in that span.
I wasn't saying that your points not legit low saban is all that. just pointing out the fact that At Bama winning is not hoped for it's expected no matter whose the coach. I was just pointing out the tremendous job sperriers done as You say just changing the culture at a program that had been amongst the dregs of college football since before any of us were born especially in the nations toughest conference where even 2nd division teams would be top 2 or 3 in any other conferenc.

Hey Tommy if you have any pull and CBS can you tell them it is time to let Verne Lundquist go. It is almost unbearable to listen him call those games.... Sometimes I actually turn the volume down because he is so bad...
@ Tater What did you think about what Spur Dog was saying about Saban. Some here were thinking he was taking a mini shot at him Last time I checked Saban has been winning SEC and National Titles while this is year 10 at Carolina for Spurrier and he ain't won nothing yet
Low, I use to have some pull with CBS, like getting free tickets to any sporting event on the planet, but I'm afraid those days are long gone. I agree with you though, Lundquist needs to go!
Concerning Spurrier, if my memory serves me correctly, Lou Holtz put the Gamec*cks back on the map and beat Ohio State in back to back bowl games as an underdog in both games. By the time Spurrier arrived the foundation had already been laid for him to take over a solid program.
Please don't refer to South Carolina as Carolina because you know that North Carolina has a patent on that word.

Yes Spur dog has done a good job Just and I think he is a fabulous coach but I do not think he should be poking at Saban because Saban has accomplished more than he has the past 9 years and it ain't even close. Saban might not have won as many SEC's as Spurrier but he is winning in a era where the conference is alot better than it was in the 90's when Spurrier was at Florida.

Tommy I would not say Holtz put Carolina on the map. Yes they won back to back bowl games but those were not exactly top tier Ohio State teams. Remember in 1999 Ohio St was 6-6 and in 2000 going into the game Ohio St was 8-3 and Cooper was in hot water. The loss got him fired because the RB for Carolina was a kid from Columbus Cooper let get away. In 2001 it was Tres's first year and they were 7-4 going into the bowl game they were not exactly a power team that year either. Also after those back to back bowl wins Carolina went 5-7, 5-7, and 6-5 in 2004. He also got Carolina in trouble with the NCAA as well.

Low, I remember that. I just know that Lou Holtz was a great motivator winning with less talent in many cases. He started his coaching career at William & Mary, then came here to coach N.C. State for 4 years taking my Wolfpack to 4 straight bowl games with average talent on those teams, then it was on to Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina with a year of coaching the New York Jets somewhere in the middle of all of that. I remember Lou saying after he left the Jets that he knew that was the wrong place for him when he couldn't even get his QB Joe Namath's phone number to talk football with him.

Yep I do
Do you know if they are gonna carry SEC Network...... It is getting very close to the launch date and I am getting very worried. I have voted online to get it and last night on the radio they said it was close to coming to Comcast but the darn guy doing the interview did not ask about Direct TV. I do not want to lose the NFL Ticket but I need that channel esp when Basketball and Baseball season are here

This is the latest thing I found about that - I am sure hoping they come to an agreement...this was July 10
DirecTV 'hopes to provide' SEC Network
Hugh Kellenberger,
USA TODAY Sports 11:29 a.m. EDT July 10, 2014
DirecTV has made a statement regarding the SEC Network, arguing it is fighting for non-sports fans while still hoping to carry the network when it launches next month.
"We're in the middle of productive discussions with Disney over ESPN's new SEC Network and hope to be able to provide it as soon as we possibly can," the undated statement reads. "Both DirecTV and Disney understand and appreciate the unique bond between SEC teams and the communities they represent, many of which lack any professional teams. We are working cooperatively to ensure that everyone can still see their favorite SEC team play at the most reasonable value to all SEC fans and the rest of our customers throughout the Southeast."
The problem in the negotiations is one that cable and satellite companies are fighting constantly at this point: in an era where it is more and more easy to cut the cord completely and go the Hulu/Netflix/Web steam route, networks are still wanting more and more money per subscriber.
USATODAY
Cox signs up to carry new SEC Network
The SEC Network and ESPN have themselves admitted they are looking for the same level of carriage as ESPNU, and Sports Business Daily reported earlier this year that the partnership is hoping for $1.30 per subscriber in the south and 25 cents out of it. Does not seem like much, but it's another expense to a rising bill for those who do not care about Ole Miss, Mississippi State or the other 12 schools.
"Many teams, leagues and conferences will deny their most loyal fans access to games in order to get everyone — whether you're a fan or not — to pay the soaring price of admission," DirecTV writes. "Every TV viewer should have a choice: Fans should have access to the games they want, and viewers with no interest in sports should not have to pay for what they don't want."
The SEC Network, which launches on Aug. 14, does have agreements in place with Dish Network, AT&T U-Verse, Cox Communications and Google Fiber. That's around 27 million homes, and Comcast is reportedly close to a deal that would bump that up to 50 million. That's a huge number as compared to the Big Ten and Pac-12 Network launches.
The companies that will carry it are becoming increasingly bold too in marketing that fact. Dish Network is sponsoring two separate media parties at next week's SEC Media Days, promising free food and "beverages." Wonder what they want to chat about?
Hugh Kellenberger writes for The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss.

ol ball coach never disappoints. honestly, the first time i heard the saban remark, i thought he was taking a shot for having all those players and losing 2 games last season. but when dari questioned him in the interview, he clarified. i think he sincerely paid a compliment to sabans recruiting. and we all know obc would have went there if he thought there was any wrong doing.
i liked the jab saban took at the media at the end of his time. maybe thinking the media jinxed his guys, lol.
well folks, its getting closer n closer to that time

Well Tommy you said the SEC is the best conference correct. SEC stands for Southeastern Conference and Carolina.... South that is... is the one in that conference so I guess that makes them the owner of the name Carolina
@ Tater I would be worried because the media is 4 outta the last 18 at picking the champion so I guess that means it will end up being Florida vs Ole Miss in this years SEC Title game

Low, One for you buddy! Since Dean Smith owned the word Carolina for so many years I guess it's time to let our neighbors south of us borrow that word for awhile.
Yes, I still believe the SEC is the best football conference in the nation even though they are lacking star name recognition from what they have had in recent years. Keep your eye on Gurley, the running back at Georgia. I saw him play high school football in North Carolina many times and even then he had some Barry Sanders like moves.

Tater, You are exactly right, Gurley is injury prone. Even in high school he got hurt at times trying to create holes rather than run through holes. When healthy he is a dynamic back but you nailed it by saying injury prone.

Just, Good Choices!
10s, I know LSU is going to be one of your two choices but didn't LSU put more players into the NFL than anyone? Doesn't this mean that your Tigers are going to have to reload? Maybe they are already reloaded with great talent who sat on the bench last year because after all they are in the SEC!

Yeah I think FSU gonna run away with it again this year as long as Winston dose not get in any trouble Clemson might give them a push but if they got spanked with Watkins and Boyd last year it dose not look good this year Cutcliffe did a great job last year but it is gonna be hard for them to do it again. They were talking with local boy and former Wake Forrest QB Riley Skinner on the radio this morning because he was up there covering it. I was a little surprised when he said Notre Dame was not represented... Oh wait that is right they are only a part time member

10s, You and Low are not following my rules on my forum! Hummm, come to think of it I heard those same words about a week after I became a new member from another member whose name I won't mention, who tried to intimidate me and run me away like he has done to so many other new members. Guess what, I don't get intimidated very easily!
Now I need to behave myself because this is your thread. What I am asking all members to do in your thread is to name two teams (not 4) who will play for the national championship. I just think it will be fun to see if any of us can name even one team right who will be in the big game.

it would appear that the Georgia team is in mid season SEC form........one of their defensive lineman was arrested this week for aggravated assault and should likely be suspended for a game or two by Coach Mark Richt........same ol', same ol' for the good ol' SEC.............
I have not paid too much attention to off season college football, never usually do, but the season is a long one, and lots of things can happen to change the teams that go to the bowls.......with the Conference playoffs, and the new system in place this year (although I STILL think $$$$$$$ will change hands to sway the votes of the "panel") things usually can't be decided till very late in the season.......
but it would not surprise me to see at least two SEC teams in the "final four", Florida State should be there if Winston can stay out of jail, this Spartan fan would love to see Michigan State in that group, but since they did not achieve their high ranking till AFTER the bowl game with Stanford last year, I can't see them finishing high enough to get there. Ohio State could get there if they are undefeated, and they really don't play anyone other than MSU on their schedule, and they will have revenge on their mind when they do play.....
so, likely scenario......LSU, Alabama, FSU, and a team from either the PAC 12 (Stanford?) or the Big 12 (Oklahoma?). It would take a miracle for a team from a non traditional "power" conference to make an appearance........which is just the way the NCAA likes it......

Well I will just toss out my picks now since everyone else is
Bama- Tuff because Coker has never been a full time start but according to Jimbo he almost beat out Winston last year Bama got the talent on defense and maybe the best backfield in the country.
Florida State- Winston is back and they have 4 of there 5 offensive linemen back plus there number 1 receiver and Nick O'Leary. Yes they lost there D Coordinator to UGA but losing Stoops to UK did not hurt them last year.
Oregon- I really do not trust there coach but Mariota is the best QB in the Pac10 so if he stays healthy I see them getting in. They get Sparty and Stanford at home and avoid playing USC. They do go on the road to UCLA but I do not think they have the defense to stop them.
Ohio State- Year 3 will showcase the talent Meyer has brought to C-Bus esp on the D-Line. Yes they lose 4 offensive line and Hyde but get Va Tech at home. The trip to Penn St will be tricky Hackenburg tore them up last year but I see Ohio State getting the W. If Ohio St had to open Big10 play vs MSU I would not pick them but by the time they travel to East Lansing the offensive line will have had plenty of time to gel. Last year it took a 2 point conversion stop inside the 10 to beat Michigan but it will not take that this year in Columbus.
Ok so I guess this means the real final 4 will be S. Carolina, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Florida

well well well, seriously i'm no good at this, but here goes
alright, i'm thinking FSU proly has another legit shot to make the playoffs, they get one spot.
i do believe tOSU wins the b1g, they'll be another entry into the playoffs.
i think OK sooners run the table in the big12, and they get a spot.
last but not least
if ucla or stanford come out of the pac with only one blemish, i think 1 of those 2 will be in the playoffs.
yep thats right y'all, no sec team this year. i think the sec lost to much at qb and it will be a blood bath this year with nobody having a good enough record to get in the playoffs

low, i cant remember the kids name. but hes s carolinas qb. ol ball coach seems to like him a lot and the kid got reps last year. that goes a long way. obc is cocky this year, usually he gets that way when he knows hes got a good offense, starting with his qb.
bo wallace.....
nick marshall.....got lucky a lot last year, wont repeat the luck.
i dont look for the kid at fl to survive this year either. cant take the punishment.
but the biggest sleeper that could blow everybodys stats up is matty mauck at mizzou. if they can find some receivers he could prove to be the best in the conference.

Well I see Ohio State is in the news again and it's not for their crappy football schedule they play - it's because of all the sexual discriminatory problems with their world renowned band.
Sheesh - when will these people learn that if you do not walk the line you are going to be in the news for all the wrong reasons.....Way to Go Ohio State Band Directors - you make us all so proud.....and believe me this did not just start with this band director - according to him these problems existed before he came to the school approx 2 years ago but he was given the warning to take control of the problem and he did not. So sad that students are going through this kind of harassment from other students and possibly from the leaders also.

@ Tater Yeah Dylan Thompson could be a good one.... I saw that game last year vs UCF and he played a pretty good ball game. Crazy how Carolina lost all that talent but most are thinking they will actually be a better team this year. You might be right I kinda forgot about Matty Mauck but Mizzou lost Green-Beckham and I think there other stud WR.
@ 10 Hey now remember that one time at Band Camp ... Oh well Ohio State is still The Best Damn Band in the Land ..... Stuff like like goes on around at other schools as well it could have been worse.... At least it was not like FAMU where someone got killed from hazing.

touche, 10s,
yup, ohio state is in the news for all the wrong reasons, and although it is not the football team, it still is wrong......and my friend low is wrong to say that it is not as bad as the FAMU situation......it is STILL a form of hazing that was going on at OSU. According to the article I read, some of the band members warned the newbies to wear more than they usually did for their underware, knowing how embarrassing it could be........hazing is hazing, and things can get out of hand quickly in some cases. At the very least, this is a form of sexual harrassment.
add to this the story that Jay Paterno has admitted that he was approached by a sexual pedophile when young Paterno was only 13. Paterno says he never admitted it to his family at the time. Turns out it was a professor at Penn State. That professor later transferred to Yale, where he was finally caught being involved in his pedophilic acts. Now he is serving time in prison.
Here's a question I asked at the time of the Sandusky case, and in my opinion it has never been answered. How deep does the Sandusky case go? Why was the Penn State president and other administration members so quick to cover the Sandusly situation, and consequently it did not come to light for many years? Was there a network of pedophiles at Penn State who operated under the cover of "darkness", so to speak? This whole thing refuses to go away, and it just seems as if it gets deeper and deeper.........
yup, college football is only getting started, and the joy of sport just disappears when stuff like this comes to light........

Not saying it is good or something that should have gone on but from what I have read it happened to both male and female band memebers esp the first year ones.... Marching out down the ramp at the stadium in your underwear and being assigned sexist names is not cool. The reason I say it was not as bad as FAMU is because during there hazing members in the band were actually being beating by other band members that resulted in the death of a student..... Still not a great day for the Ohio State band but it could have been alot worse and uglier. A black eye for sure for the Ohio State band. Unfortunately this type of hazing takes place at schools all over the country weather it be in the sports field, band field, or with fraternities.

Hazing has to stop and stop NOW......I understand that it has been going on for years but I believe it has gotten to be more dangerous as the years have gone on....and who knows what else will come out about the band at OSU and very possibly the directors of the band being involved more than has been released at this time.....it was not just underwear - they said also total nude in some instances. Too many things can go wrong with hazing - not only physically but emotionally - some leads to suicide or mass murderers....think about all the shooters we have been having in our schools - I believe that a lot of that comes from emotional problems caused by whatever....

Big ten writers
The results of the fourth annual Big Ten writers poll are in, and much like all of the college football preseason previews, Rutgers didn't garner too much respect from the panel of 29 media members.
The Scarlet Knights were picked to finish last in the Big Ten's seven-team East Division in a poll organized by Cleveland.com. The poll was created after the conference stopped putting out its own preseason media vote, meaning this is the most official Big Ten vote fans will find.
Voters included writers who cover each Big Ten school, and are listed below. Dan Duggan and I unveiled our ballots, as well. Sound off below on your thoughts on where Rutgers should be pegged in the Big Ten preseason poll.
EAST
1. Ohio State, 195 points (23 first-place votes)
2. Michigan State, 180 points (10)
3. Michigan, 136 points
4. Penn State, 105.5 points
5. Maryland, 84 points
6. Indiana, 78.5 points
7. Rutgers, 33 points
WEST
1. Wisconsin, 183.5 points (15 first-place votes)
2. Iowa, 173 points (11)
3. Nebraska, 157.5 points (5)
4. Northwestern, 112 points (1)
5. Minnesota, 96.5 points
6. Illinois, 58 points
7. Purdue, 31.5 points

Well Sorp the writers get things wrong alot but honestly looking at Rutgers schedule I only see them beating IU and Maryland. The got bad luck drawing Nebraska and Wisky from the west. To bad they did not draw Purdue, Illinois, or Minnesota. But hey that is why they play the game on the field

Sorp, Look at it this way, Rutgers got more points than Purdue so you're not last in the entire Big 10 at the moment.

Let's not forget about the Canes they are favored to win there division. That would mean an ACC showdown Prob Canes Vs FL State round 2 because they play them on the reg schedule. If you win the ACC championship that puts you right up there with the big boys and if you go undefeated that's at least a 4th rank seed for the New playoff system. The top 4 teams will play for it all.

Upsets happen alot in College Football so you never know Sorp. We will have a better indicator when the season starts to see how teams are playing but maybe Rutgers can catch Wisky sleeping because they get them in New Jersey on a 12 O' Clock kick.
