I have to say that so far, I like the changes made so far. I believe that each team now gets just 4 timeouts/ game. scoring should go up!
Have to admit that the logest part of the game was the last 2 minutes.

Dave, Once again you are completely WRONG about what you are saying! I have tried very hard to be nice to you but for some reason your attitude doesn't want to seem to let this happen. The final score was Villanova 86 and East Tenn St 51. Even though it was a large victory for Villanova, I felt bad for East Tenn State. Villanova's defence decimated East Tenn's
offence. Villanova had three players, including a Freshman who scored his first College basket, putting in three pointers left and right. I prefer a close game where victory of my team is in the last few minutes, rather than a humiliating blow out for the other team.
Villanova's next game is Sunday against Akron.

Low, I think I know team sports pretty well except for hockey, soccer, and the Korean softball league, which I have no interest in. My passion is professional sports and I know your passion is college sports and you are definitely the best analyst we have on DH Sports when it comes to college sports.
I'd like to hear your opinion on these early season projections that Las Vegas has released in college basketball. Of course these projections will change as the season moves forward but it's a starting point for us to discuss more about college basketball. Do you think these projections are close to being on target, way off, or somewhere in between? Injuries and/or suspensions could change all of this too of course.

I think it is way to early to predict the Final Four but I understand why Vegas does it.... Outta those 4 I could see UK and UNC but not so sure about Maryland and Gonzaga... We will get a better feeling about Maryland once Big10 starts but I like MSU's team better than theres... As for Gonzaga Wiltjer is one of the best offensive players in the country but if he has a off night in March not sure who is gonna step up for them...

Low, Thanks for your input. I agree, it's way to early to predict what might take place in March but I do know this: Izzo at Michigan State and Coach K at Duke are two of the best teachers in the game during the early part of any season and I wouldn't sell either one of them short when tournament time rolls around.

* Villanova currently is 5-0 beating Stanford 59-45. Not their best showing, but a win.
* At this point last season, Villanova wasn't on anyone's radar to be a first seed team
in the NCAA tournament or in the Final 4.
* Villanova ended last season as a NCAA Tournament First Seed team
* Villanova was knocked out of the NCAA tournament by UNC by three points (round of 32)

With all of your degrees at all of the different colleges and universities you have attended that you try to impress us with please read your own thread more carefully.
I have no final four projections this early in the season. Maryland is an early final four projection that Las Vegas has released and their projections will change throughout the entire season. UNC is not final four material until Paige comes off his injury and enters their starting lineup which will be soon but not before they play Maryland. Yes, Villanova is undefeated so far but who have they played?

Villanova beat Georgia Tech and is now 6-0 for the season.
This Friday my youngest daughter and I will meet the Villanova Basketball team, Coach, Athletic Director, and University President at a Basketball team practice & reception in Los Angeles. The team will be on their way to a December 7th tournament in HI. This is exciting to me, since this is the best team (and probably a much better team) than VU's 8th seed National Championship team in the 1985.

I like this analysis because Villanova is #1 and other teams I see as over ranked by the AP and Coach's opinion polls ranked lower. I personally would rank Kentucky above Villanova at this point in the season. I put a lot of weight on wins and losses and by whom. Both VU and Kentucky are 6-0, but Kentucky beat highly ranked Duke. I would put Duke higher than where they are here and in the AP and Coaches polls.

I agree with you and I am looking forward to the VU games you noted this month. VU generally has their non-conference games in the beginning of the season with teams that are generally not as competitive as the conference teams. The Big East is going to be strong this year.
If you go to the link for the power rankings site I noted with the power rankings list, at the bottom of the 350 teams they rank, they explain what they do and why. Below are two paragraphs that summarizes how they come up with the rankings. The AP and Coaches polls are polls. They are the opinions of the folks they poll. Like you and I they have conference and team biases. The Power Rankings are typically computer models not based on what school you went to or where you live (SEC, Big East, PAC 12 bias). Note, I am not a gambler, but I like to see the odds others have for my team and any given game.
The NCAA Basketball Power Rankings at OddsShark.com take into account road and home offense, rebounding stats, margin of victory averages, 3-point skill, and more. Each team is ranked in a dozen categories and we apply our formula weightings to come up with a total offensive rank. We repeat the process with boxscore data on defense - steals, defensive rebounding, defensive 3-point efficiency and more.
With that overall power number, we extrapolate a final result by mutliplying a strength-of-schedule factor that gives our overall NCAAB power rank. That list is a great guide for helping bettors evaluate the best college basketball odds. It's valuable information all season long and you should bookmark the page, especially during preseason tournaments and post-season tournaments like the NIT and March Madness when teams from different conferences compete together.

Well before the season started LSU was getting alot of preseason hype but they lost to College of Charleston the other night and are now 3-3....... Wonder if North Florida upsets them tonight
Maryland goes down to UNC..... Some good matchups tonight in the challenge L'ville @ MSU, Wisky @ Syracuse, and IU @ Duke
Butler vs UC.... UC undefeated so far but they have not really played anyone...

The Maryland versus the North Carolina was a great game. Both teams had some great guards. I am looking forward to see the Duke game. The number of undefeated teams falls.
Villanova beat Saint Joe's . My older sister went to Saint Joe's so that makes the win even sweeter. 
Villanova(7-0) and Oklahoma (4-0) play on Dec 7th at Pearl Harbor, HI. Should be a good game. So far both teams are undefeated and will one team will sink the other's perfect season? Oklahoma has one game in between, VU is off till the 7th. It will be a tough road trip for both teams due to the winter December weather in Philly/OK to go to Hawaii for a game to support our troups.

My daughter and I got to meet/hear the Villanova Basketball team, Coach, and new Athletic Director last night. A couple of interesting things were said. The new Villanova Athletic Director is the former Athletic Director of USC. Coach Wright announced that they have signed with two new players for next year, both 6'10" That might help getting a few rebounds next year? Villanova's Daniel Ochefu is a candidate for the 2016 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. Most new players are found through networking past players, alumni, and friends.

Embrace the madness!!! It is just one game and only 10 points. Anyone who gets a ticket to the NCAA Tournament can win!!! That's what really counts? Villanova won in '85 as an 8th seed, and UK will likely be a #1 seed?
VU and OK tomorrow. Should be a great game.

The game was alot worse than that Dave.... The final score says UK lost by 10 but if you saw the game it was not even that close the Bruins whipped them and it was painful to lose... Some loses hurt but when you lose to one of the Blue Bloods its even worse.. Thankfully next season UCLA travels to Lexington and payback will be in order...

Yes I agree, Fox and the USAA sponsor did a nice job also introducing many of the the Pearl Harbor veterans in the audience. Some of the gentleman were in their 90's.
Villanova lost to Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor today and another perfect season (no losses) team falls. For some reason Villanova was just not making baskets, and never led the game. I remember Hawaii being very hot and humid, and they said the Hickam game facility was not air conditioned? The only saving grace was OK loss was to a ranked #6 team.
Coach Wright of Villanova had the team given a history lesson on the Pearl Harbor attack prior to leaving for the game. When I went on the Pearl Harbor Tour many years ago, the tour boat I was on was half Japanese tourist and the announcer spoke in English and Japanese. I noted the tickets on the surviving servicemen had a US and a Japanese flag crossing each other. It is a tourist attraction for both countries.

There are much less stoppages and more scoring.
so far I was wrong about teams having to play all 2-3 zones.

Villanova is playing Virginia this week after blowing out La Salle even worse than VU was beat by OK on Dec 7. Good for the Wildcat's confidence along with the ranking bump this week. Both VU and Virginia have one loss for the season and it may be a good game. Coach Wright recently said that the downside of a high national ranking is that every game is the other teams BIG Game of the season.
Question: OK is undefeated, beat VU#4 by a large margin and they are ranked #18? Doesn't seem right?

F**king pissed as hell about that game yesterday  No god damn excuse for UK losing to Ohio St yesterday.... Just came out and played lost the entire first half Again getting outtuffed just like vs UCLA. Only difference was they did play better in the second half but by that time it was to late. Boys better get there a** to work this week otherwise L'ville is gonna kick there butt next weekend...

Everyone have a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah,or what ever you celebrate. We were blessed to live another year to enjoy our families, friends and enjoy our favorite sports.
It was a bad week for Villanova too.  Most of the game with Virginia was very exciting and close but Virginia prevailed. Can't win them all. The good (and bad) news is the National Championship is based on a sudden death tournament format, so UK and VU's losses this week may not matter? Go Figure? Let the madness continue.

During this holiday season UK has what they like to call Camp Cal... Since Dec 12 UK has only played games on Saturdays and during the week they can practice as much as they want there are no restrictions from the NCAA... Hopefully Cal is going hard on the defensive side and working on rebounding... I know he is young but Skal Labissere really needs to tuffen up...

Villanova beat Delaware by 25 points and plays Penn next. Then the conference games begin with the Big East teams. Xavier is first on New Years Eve! I think there are three Big East teams in the AP Top Ten as of last week. Rolly Massameno was at the game today and gave an interview (he was the VU coach that won the 1985 National Championship as an 8th seed team). His wife cooks for the championship team once a year. He is still a College Basketball coach and is in his 80's.

Woo Hoo Baby Yeah UK beats Rick and the cards again Nothing better than beating loserville.... Gotta say I love Pitino and I understand he was frustrated with losing the game but that was weak of him flipping the bird at the annoying fan and then not doing the after game press conference...
