Not trying to get political, but Trump owns Doral and at least 14 golf courses. John Kennedy was supposed to be the best golfer/president, but during his presidency it was a well kept secret.

Sorry, Dave.
I have shied away from golf.
I am a little more than critical about anything, or anyone, who uses terminology which is disrespectful to others.
Golf uses the term "bag/bags" and I find that offensive.

the majors are where i miss directv the most. i loved how they provided many different views on different channels. but alas i will survive, lol.
thanks dave for starting this thread.
i for one am loving the new crop. these kids can play! thus far they all seem very likable too. if spieth can take the masters again, that will unleash the 'can he win all four' talk. honestly i'd freakin love to see spieth win the slam.

Just saw the end of the tournament today at Doral. Boy that is a tough course, the Blue Monster. Michelson had a tee shot like mine.....off to the right in the adjacent fairway...LOL. Adam Scott not only won the tournament, but that put him on the top of the FedEx Cup standings.

That 2nd shot hit by Scott won him that tournament. Just 1 more foot and his ball
was going into the water.
Poor Phil Mickelson. He gave away like 4 shots to the field.
The big loser today was Dustin Johnson going 8 over on todays round.

Phil is getting older and has arthritis. He has five years to go on the Champions Tour, where the tournaments are three days. Not many PGA tour players are competitive after 40, and Phil is 45. I think he is doing great in light of his age and physical ailments.
Putting is the best part of my game. I bought a long putter about 15 years ago because my instructor said using the long putter was like cheating. My instructor was the first regional sales manager for Taylor Made. I tested it out as scientifically as I could. For me it was a push, so I stuck to my Ping putter, and later went with the fat grip that I recommend for most people. I found the long putter was a help on the long puts, but was more difficult for the short puts. The best putter I ever played with had a 1920 putter with a thin grip, it was so short he had to bend over like Michelle Wie does, and the rusted out putter face looked like an old 7 iron twisted to make it hit with a roll.
My dad was a single digit handicap. His achilles heel was putting. After a putting lesson and this was probably in the early to mid 60's, he asked his club pro if he should buy the new fangled putter. His pro took him to a Club Member's locker, opened it, and there were a couple of dozen putters in it. He said that that member buys every new putter that is out, and he is still a lousy putter. I say, it is not the putter it is the putter.

dave i understand that all to clearly. for years i used the offset head with not so great results. finally, while playing in the chattanooga industrial league on much faster greens than i was use too, i switched to an old light center shafted blade. now no one ever confused me with a great putter, lol. but my points went up as did my ranking on the team. i used that old putter the rest of my golfing time.

Right now Tiger is recovering from his back surgery. He is chipping and putting and swinging his 9 iron at his home in Florida. He won't play at the Masters this year. One you win the Masters, you are qualified to play in the future Masters tournaments. Can you believe Tiger is 40? I first saw him play when he was 16, and it was at his first Professional tournament. The newspaper said he was the #1 High School player. He missed the cut at that LA Open. He impressed me with his (at that time) smoothe and long drives, with a swing reminding me of Ben Hogan. I wondered if he would ever make the pros? LOL.

The 2016 Masters is slated for Apr. 7, 2016 from Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

It is good to see some players that I haven't seen play very much lately on this list. Will it be a young gun to win this year, or a seasoned veteran? How would you like to enter a major as a successful Golf Pro and be given 5000/1 odds to win?

Jason Day won 5 tournaments last year, including one major. In the 2015 PGA Championship Day beat runner up Jordan Spieth by three strokes. The last three Masters he finished in the top 10. I think Jason has a good shot at the win. Many Masters and US Opens have been won by an unknown? Who is your favorite to win, and do you know an unknown player we should take note of?????

The Masters has a very challenging course requiring: the ability to hit a long drive with accuracy; great putting skills on very fast and sloping greens; ability to determine the correct risk/reward of each shot choice; and a great deal of Course Knowledge!!! The players who can win there typically have played there before in the Masters (like Gordon S.) and/or have won there. QUIZ: how many former Masters winners are entered in this year's tournament?

The correct answer is 18.
2016 Masters - Former Tournament Champions
Angel Cabrera, Argentina
Fred Couples
Trevor Immelman, South Africa
Zach Johnson
Bernhard Langer, Germany
Sandy Lyle, Scotland
Phil Mickelson
Larry Mize
Mark O’Meara
Jose Maria Olazabal, Spain
Charl Schwartzel, South Africa
Adam Scott, Australia
Vijay Singh, Fiji
Jordan Spieth
Bubba Watson
Mike Weir, Canada
Tiger Woods
Ian Woosnam, Wales
Question: How many of the above players do you think have a real chance of winning? I have picked the ones I think have a real chance of winning, and I will disclose that this weekend. Hint: It is less than half of the list above.
FYI. If I had won the Masters, I would enter the tournament as long as I was physically able to play the 4 rounds, no matter how many pros whined I was taking their spot.

He won the Masters in 2012 & 2014, so that trend puts him at winning in 2016? The only other Masters winners with multiple Masters wins, and won in this century (past 15 years)is Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

Saw Spieth on Kelly and Michael this morning...nice guy...he said he knows Tater...Fuhgeddabouit
His demeanor is a lot like Jack Nicklaus, so it is hard not to like him. When he won the Masters last year it was his second Masters win. Most see him as the favorite to win this year. When I saw him interview on the Golf Channel, he said the first year he played the tournament he spent a lot of time on social media. The second time he played, he totally ignored social media and won.
If you look at the Masters winners entered this year listed on an earlier post you will notice that Nick Faldo is the only one who had consecutive wins. If Spieth wins this year, it will be quite an accomplishment, and everyone will be watching the majors this year even more to see if he can make the Grand Slam of Golf. It could be a very big year for Major Tournament Golf this year, because Jordan Spieth has the talent and nerves to accomplish the Grand Slam, and this may be his year to do it.

The last time I saw the ceremonial tee off, Arnie had a hard time making the shot. This year he is 86 years old, and probably the right time to pass the honor to a younger legend.

Bubba Watson is one of the 5 players that I think may win the Masters this year. What does he think about playing in the Masters? How much has he won in prize money there? The following is from Agusta.com
Watson, 37, is considering cutting back his PGA Tour schedule when he reaches 40. The Masters, however, will still be part of his schedule.
“I’m always going to be at Augusta,” he said. “They are going to have to kick me off Augusta. I’m going to be 80 struggling down the fairway. ... They are going to have to send me that letter that says, ‘Bubba, don’t you come back.’”
Masters record
Year Place Score Round 1 2 3 4 Money
2015 T38 +1 71 71 73 74 $ 40,000
2014 1 -8 69 68 74 69 $ 1,620,000
2013 T50 +7 75 73 70 77 $ 19,480
2012 1 -10 69 71 70 68 $ 1,440,000
2011 T38 +1 73 71 67 78 $ 36,800
2009 42 +2 72 72 73 73 $ 29,250
2008 T20 +3 74 71 73 73 $ 84,300

US Open at Oakmont in just a few weeks. I am about 15 miles away.
Have no idea why they keep returning. The roads in and out are small and terriable!
I hope that they put some of the trees back. the last time the course played too easy.

When I think of Oakmont, I think of the following: First of all it is usually on the list of the Top 100 courses in the world. Then I think of the Golf History of the course, with Championships made by Tommy Armour, Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazan, Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Ernie Els. Ernie is one of my favorite players, and I remember well his historic playoff to win the US Open there. I remember the course, with its unique bunkers. On a personal note, my sister's x-in-laws were/are members there. They were a very nice family. I personally would put it in my top 10 places to hold a US Open, and I have personally attended 5 US Men's PGA Golf Opens because it is my favorite Major Golf Tournament.

Arnie announced today that he will no longer be part of the first tee shot at
the Masters anymore.
The Masters is starting next week from April 4-10, 2016 in Augusta, Georgia.
This year there are 5 players that have been invited to play at the masters and will likely not attend. This is taken from an article on:
http://www.augusta.com/masters/story/news/masters-invitees-not-exempt-injury-illness-family-duty
Four-time champion Tiger Woods (back) and former U.S. Open champ Jim Furyk (wrist) are both casualties of surgical recoveries. Two-time winner Jose Maria Olazabal announced that health issues will keep him sidelined since his last start at the 2015 Masters. Kevin Streelman is at the mercy of a Masters Week due date, as was Danny Willett until his wife delivered their first child a week early. And Sangmoon Bae is involved in a two-year military service requirement in his native South Korea.
Who is your favorite player?
Do you know of an unknown new player that could win this coveted title?

Tiger Woods waited until Friday, yesterday, to announce that he will not be playing in the Masters this year. He may have finally learned his lesson not to push his recovery at the risk of additional damage. Tiger is 40, and age 40-50 is usually an age that many tour players are unable to win on the tour and try to hang in there to make the Senior/Champions tour that starts at age 50. The problem for many is that at 50 many have physical ailments that hinder their competitiveness. The Senior players have a whole new set of records to break...Most wins, most majors, lowest average score in a year, etc. I am sure the eye of the tiger is on those records to break.

Tater, good to hear from you. I agree with you about Tiger about 90%. I saw him win the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, his last Major win. That was probably the bravest show of tenacity to win that I have ever seen in golf. He played with a broken leg, including a playoff round and won. Reminded me of Ben Hogan's comeback US Open. The other 10% of my opinion says, if anyone can come back through sheer tenacity and effort it is Tiger. He is not my favorite player, but I have a lot of respect for him for his unending effort to meet his goals in golf. I think he should retire. He would make a great announcer. He is very knowledgeable about golf, has a love for the game, and articulate.
It should be a great Masters. We have a lot of great players in the tournament this year both in the seasoned players and young guns.

Did anyone see the Golf Channel's replay of Jack Nicholas' 1986 6th Masters victory?
Quiz: Why did Jack Nicholas often wear yellow, particularly on the final day of a tournament?
It should be a great Masters this year. My favorite to win in Jason Day. Many times a complete unknown can win a Major. I think this is true because there is no pressure to win. This is why Major Tournaments are so fun to watch. Anything can happen like a 46 year old who shoots par on the last day for the first 9 holes, that no one is watching because he is 8th in the tournament WINS!!!!!! Some say the Masters starts on the last 9 holes on Sunday.

Yes, the goal in golf is to shoot a score as low as you can. Shooting par golf is 0. Less than par is a minus score. Par is the number of shots an average professional player will hit to play a hole.
