Spent 5 months in a 16' tipi a few years back, that was great adventure and very comfy, you're just limited with your set up location, your means of transportation and it does take some time to set one up. Not meant for a short outing.
Other than that,on horse back with a pack mule.
Hell, I like em all except the motor home, can't get away from people as easy and I won't do designated camp grounds.
My bones are a little to creaky anymore to just throw a blanket on the ground, except for a one nighter.
I camp the deserts and mountains in Az.

Tents are cool, but rolling a bag out next to the fire really has it. Start adding amenities and it's hardly camping anymore.

Well in bear country tents are just zip lock sandwich baggies.
I perfer to have a cabin or large camper trailer.
Sleeping under the stars by the fire sounds wonderful but someone has to keep watch & feed the fire, keep critters away,to be safe
Even racoons will be aggressive, skunks too.
Many dangers don't forget the badesses of all MAN!

Meh. I've slept under the stars alone, in both black and grizzly bear country, more times than I can count. Haven't regretted it once. I'm heading to Alaska again for a month in just a few weeks... I'll be doing it there too. Can't wait!
To each their own. I guess everyone has fears of something.

Backcountry camping is where it's at....As far away from civilization as possible. Isn't that why you go camping? So naturally a tent is required for this. The Appalachian Trail is very good for this, although the side trails are even better. I was on the Benton McKay one time and didn't see a soul for 3 days...Very peaceful!

I had to vote with the tent. I don't always use it, but it's there. We have a problem with snakes and bears. (sure wouldn't want to wake up with a snake of the reptile family in my sleeping bag) The tent is also a refuge from those mosquitoes along a river. That can make for a long night of hell! I will most definitely have to check out snowboard101's hammock idea. Plan to do a search on it after this reply. Great idea for a short trip.

I like tenting because its easy and quick. I used to have a pop-up and that was nice too A motor home or travel trailer, maybe if I was going cross country, but really for a weekend camp or even a week, Nothing beats a tent. I do have to have an airmattress or soft surface tho because of my achey hips and knees what is a Prevost?

I prefer tents cuz theyre lightweight and eonomical and no maintenance..plus im not afraid of no "booger man" or bears..lol plus ease of use and can pitch them anywhere.
I have a 10x10 nylon dome tent by coleman with a removable rain fly that sleeps about 4-5 people and costs about $100 15 yrs ago and is still in perfect shape.

I like all of the above, but tenting allows you to get further into the back country or the wilderness away from civilization. Winter time I like a nice cabin. Fall Time a Pop up or Travel Trailer.

There was a guy who went a shrink because of his dreams...
He told the shrink, "Last night I dreamed I was a wigwam and the night before that I dreamed I was a tipi. What does this mean?"
The shrink thought for a minute and said, "I got it, you're two tents."

My little 12 ft, travel trailer is just the thing, small enough I can handle myself, comfy, and sure can haul the stuff. I open the door and out comes 3 bikes, a screen house, wood for the fire, cooking supplies for that fire..... the 3 grands and all. I started in a tent then a popup, and now this is smaller than the popup but easier to set up.

Makes little difference how I go,as long as I can go.
Last week all I had was a wool blanket, small tarp and a backpack( went for 4 days), it was cold and wet.
Next week I'm going to Southeast Utah(scout a deer hunt) for 3 days and will use a small tent to stay out of the weather, last week was miserable but still fun and memorable.
I usually try to practice my survival skills when I go out, so minimal equip. is the norm for me.
When and if others go,I have enough stuff to equip an army, but not many want to help pack, unpack or clean it after.

That last paragraph says it all ! That's the problem I have, it is more labor than pleasure for me. I work less in the comfort of my home.
