Messing around with friends never works out well, long term. A minor indiscretion here and there if you're both into it is one thing that can be overcome in a friendship, but anytime you're regularly that close to another body is going to breed some sort of possessiveness of the other, if not breed other things, as well.

Ummm. I AM a friend with benefits. My best friend and i just moved in together, 8 months after she left her husband. We are best friends in the world, and we do actually sit down after dinner, usually on weekends that the boy is at his dad's (we're not crass, okay), and decide if we are going to get busy or not. Never when we need to get up the next day, though.
We spent endless hours sitting and talking naked at her old apartment, and if we feel like it nowadays, we are always free to crawl into bed with each other. Most nights we sleep. Once or twice a month, the companionship and intimacy carried over since the last, allows us an additional type of expression. We are never getting married, and she Has a boyfriend for herself (i have a few girlfriends we share sometimes, too).
We all know it won't last (and she confesses to Severe guilt when they do their thing), and the best part is this...
There is all of the companionship of a marriage, but can you call your wife a retard??? and sleep comfortably???

OK, OK, no abuse for this. I've done the fwb thing. But, now, more than ever, I think I'd rather have the benefit of a friend. Just a difference in preposition.
For the record, though, fwb's still rock, if you can live with it.

i've done it...and loved it.
it works better for me if we AREN'T friends, though...cause otherwise they tend to get emotionally involved and it gets messy.
if it's going to happen, i'd rather it be JUST sex, and nothing else.
