In the past, I asked a man out, took him to a fabulous dinner and paid. I know some people are going to "freak" about this, but it literally threw off the balance of the relationship. (Yes, it did turn into a relationship).
So, I'm admittedly old-fashioned and I always tell men this upfront. I appreciate a man who wants to pay on the first date. I will always offer to pay my share, but if he takes me up on it on the first date, he's killed his chances of being anything but a friend.
What a laugh.. if a man lets you pay he's not getting sex.
And for all you women who say "Whomever asks.. pays"
Why are there all the boards about how you women won't ever make the first move because you are old fashioned?
I'm not spending my money just because you did your hair.

A real gentleman would NEVER let a lady pay. 
I say I agree with barbara. Since I have started dating I have noticed that chivalry is not dead, it is ignored. When I have tried to do what I was raised ie. open doors, pull chairs, pay for a meal on a date I have been told by more than one woman that they were successful and could do all of those things on their own. When I asked a lady what she meant by that she said she did not want to feel obligated to me for anything. I was insulted that she thought that.
So a gentleman should pay for the meal or date. However some lady's need to learn that gentlemen do things not for pay back or to make you feel obligated but because they want to.
Ok I will step off of the pulpit now.
WOW....this post went a little wacky. I will say that I am a successful woman. I love for a man to open the door, pull out my chair.....it makes me feel special. As for the first date, it doesn't have to be expensive. It is really a get to know you session. I also read a post back toward the middle bashing woman and saying that we should have to have sex. That is BS. and that if you have been on here for a while that you are a player. That is total BS as well.
I have been here for a while and I intend to stay because I have many friends. I don't have suggestive photos on my profile and I do not expect a $300 meal. It should be about the quality time that you spend together getting to know each other. It is a time where we can all be a bit anxious, why not wear comfy clothes and take off some of the heat!

The first date I had with this man. he was a real jerk we had talked for a while and agreed to meet for lunch after church. I agreed to pay my share because we are both on ss. any way he picked the place and time cause he always eats there on Sunday and the time was 12:15 I told him I couldn't get there by then. anyway it was 12:30 when I got there. It was buffet style and he was going through the line . he pointed to our table so i sat down. he was getting dessert had already ate. I felt like a fool him watching me eat. after I finally finished I took my wallet out to split the bill . he tells me he has already paid for his. had to pay before you eat. Finally got out of there haven't saw him since he did call a few times, but no more dates.
