Just thought I'd pass along some advice my broker gave me today...
I called him this morning and asked him what I should be investing in as I feel interest rates are not going to be rising as they did during the late 70's early 80's.
So I told him I thought we ought to be looking to get out of bonds and finding a safe haven in which to invest. I asked him,
"Should we move to precious metals, foreign currency or what?"
He responded, "If the Democrats are in office much longer, canned goods, liquor and ammunition are probably your best bet."

A painful exchange with a young student who's organizing for free public colleges, cancellation of all student debt and $15/hour minimum wage for all campus employees. She doesn't really know how to pay for it, unfortunately.

The key to the whole thing is when Cavuto informs her that if you taxed the entire "1 percent" at 100 percent, all you would get is $1 trillion, which isn't even enough to fund Medicaid for three years. Her response: "I just don't believe that." Of course she doesn't. Because she can't believe it. If she realizes there are limits to what you can confiscate from other people for the purpose of giving free goodies to everyone else, then her whole concept of the world is left in tatters - not unlike her until a technical glitch mercifully ends the interview.
(By the way, if any liberal accuses Fox of doing that on purpose, I would only say this: If they did, it was an act of mercy on their part.)
I can't help but note two other refrains she keeps coming back to:
1. "There will always be a 1 percent." Well sure. That's true by definition. It's also irrelevant. The real question is whether it's either possible or sustainable to confiscate wealth from a segment of the population such that you can provide the things she wants - specifically free tuition and forgiveness of all debt - to any real degree. She's not only convinced of the nonsense about how much of the wealth is controlled by the "1 percent," but she also seems to believe that you could confiscate it from them as she proposes and it will never change the fact that they have it and you can just keep going and getting it from them. Bizarre.
2. "The U.S. is the bastion of capitalist success." This she offers as a reason for why there will always be plenty of wealthy people from whom to take the money, and yet it doesn't occur to her in the slightest that making the policy changes she wants, the U.S. essentially ceases to be a capitalist country.
Oh well. I'm probably taking her way too seriously by even putting this much thought into her arguments. But if you really think there's a difference between what she believes and what Hillary and Bernie believe, I'd like to know exactly what that is.

I understand that this "BUMS" thread is near its end and will not be renewed. I've been here for several years and although I accept the fact that it will not be continued once this thread reaches 5,000 posts, I thank and have appreciated everyone's thoughts, ideas and factual presentations regarding what conservative America has been confronted with for many years.
I've learned more here than anywhere else about how the world works and consider myself fairly in the know about what occurs behind the scenes and the ulterior motives of our politicians and corporate America.
I wish everyone well, and "God Bless America", I think we'll soon be in dire need of His help.

“I don’t think they’re gaining strength,” Obama responded. “What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq, and in Syria they’ll come in, they’ll leave, but you don’t see this systemic march by ISIL across the terrain.”
“What we have not yet been able to do is to completely decapitate their command and control structures,” he admitted. “We’ve made some progress in trying to reduce the flow of foreign fighters and part our goal has to be to recruit more effective Sunni partners in Iraq to really go on offense rather than simply engage in defense.”

After the Hayride broke the exclusive story on 10,000 Syrian refugees possibly resettling in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Metairie, it has now come to light that refugees are already coming into the New Orleans area.
Catholic Charities, which receive federal grants from U.S. Department of State/Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, have apparently taken in two Syrian refugee families already and are expecting many more.
There are approximately 180 cities in the country that are eligible to accept the 10,000 Syrian refugees. Here is the full list of those cities, which includes Baton Rouge, Matairie and Lafayette:
The 10,000 Syrian refugees are first flown to the United States, according to the French news wire Agence France-Presse, with the State Department paying the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the airfare.
Then, once the refugees arrive in the country, they could be dispersed across the 180 cities listed above, where they are to aided within the first 30 to 90 days in settling and finding employment in the area.
After approximately 90 days, refugees are no longer eligible for the State Department-funded support that they were receiving through migrant and refugee services. However, they are able to join support programs through the Department of Health and Human Services.
Additionally, it is unclear how much the screening process for the 10,000 Syrian refugees will cost American taxpayers.
WIDESPREAD WELFARE
However, the narrative by the national media tends to be one where immigrants and migrants are portrayed as coming to America and not taking any sort of federal government help. In our research, we found that to be the biggest fallacy of all when it comes to the immigration and migrant issue.
In a report by the Congressional Office of Refugee Resettlement, nearly 92 percent of refugees in the country were on food stamps between 2008-2013. Additionally, 73 percent of refugees were on Medicaid, 68 percent were receiving some kind of cash welfare almost 20 percent were in public housing.
As Americans continue to debate what to do about the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, this analysis attempts to estimate the costs of resettling refugees from that region in the United States. Although we do not consider all costs, our best estimate is that in their first five years in the United States each refugee from the Middle East costs taxpayers $64,370 — 12 times what the UN estimates it costs to care for one refugee in neighboring Middle Eastern countries.
The cost of resettlement includes heavy welfare use by Middle Eastern refugees; 91 percent receive food stamps and 68 percent receive cash assistance. Costs also include processing refugees, assistance given to new refugees, and aid to refugee-receiving communities. Given the high costs of resettling refugees in the United States, providing for them in neighboring countries in the Middle East may be a more cost-effective way to help them. Via: The Hayride

On average, each Middle Eastern refugee resettled in the United States costs an estimated $64,370 in the first five years, or $257,481 per household.
