Enjoying the weather right now. Especially with the knowledge that it will get warmer and not colder like if it WAS Sept. Black raspberries are ripening..dang birds!!!! Due to the past bad year, even the hated dewberries are covered with seedy, big, sourish berries. Why cant I ever get a pest weed that bears tasty fruit.

Columbia county fair this week. Going with neighbor and his 9 year old girl on Friday. Used to be the must do when growing up. He has visitation with her and needs stuff to do. So I suggested the fair....costs money...nah..look at entries and animals, walk around. I cant believe the price on foods now and always wonder about how safe it is to eat it anyway. lol. Altho..have to get a cream puff from the ladies.

Went with neighbor on his boat Saturday above the Dells on the river. Havent been on it for 50 years as a kid on excursion boats with parents. Waaaaayyyyy different than below where I am. I am used to sandbars and walk anywhere I want in summer. We went through a "canyon" and it said on the gauge..50 feet to bottom. Most was 7 feet deep or more. It is very scenic for sure with all the sandstone cliffs. Felt sorry for first humans..How the heck do we get to the other side!!!! Tons of boats, pontoons, kayaks, canoes, jet skis..We finally ended up at a cross sandbar..think channel ran to right. Stopped and they fished while I climber up a cliff part. Part of the river spreads out into a huge lake type area. It was pretty and interesting but I prefer my section. Safer and tamer and more hunting/gathering for rocks, plants, feathers, bones and whatever. More to explore.

The last gasp for the Dells is next weekend..Fri-Sun. The stores try to unload the crap they havent sold for 20 years, street vendors, art show/craft show/sales, huge flea market, food, beer tent and more. The name is...oh please...sigh..Wo-zha-wa? We have lost 80+ minutes of sun already. Next week will feel like fall..figures. I remember one ^ when mom and I went. Wore coats. And I bought a pair of white cotton gloves from a lady. "Oh..(smile) you collect gloves?" NO! My hands are cold..they were $2 and I didnt care what they were..they were gloves. lol. There is a ton of work to do before cold and I have the attitude of..who cares. sigh....old age syndrome.

I just returned from a business trip in the Dells. The Place Theatre had a soft opening November 19th, dinner and show "Mary Poppins" it was fabby. The new owners, out of Chicago produced "Tony and Tina's Wedding." I understand the theatre was closed almost 4 years after it was first purchased (3 years ago). I wish them nothing but success!

Good to hear reenie. My boarder works there. Attendance has not been great, but winter is a bad time to open anything. Poppins goes til January and then they will offer a new show. Word is they will look into doing concerts also. He had fun getting home last night with the freezing rain. Was able to get across the parking lot in one looooooonnnnnggggggg step. Called a slide on ice.

On September 6, 1962 a 20 lbs. piece of Russian Sputnik IV landed in the middle of the street on the corner of N. 8th and Park.
Sputnikfest is our way of bringing the community together to celebrate this momentous event.

Named one of the Top Five Funkiest Festivals in the country by Readers Digest,
this Wacky Tacky Festival is fast becoming a community favorite, with fun for the entire family.

There's food, music, raffles and contests for every age group and life form. Purchase a Sputnikfest t-shirt or poster at our merchandise tent, have your picture taken with a member of the 501st Legion, dress up in a spacey alien costume, or just join in the fun! You won't want to miss this.

See you on September 12th at the corner of N. 8th and Park Streets in Manitowoc!

"Sputnik landed here...Why don't you?"

Harvest Fest IN GREEN LAKE WISCONSIN
It’s a time to fill the streets and indulge in all that is autumn. Crafters from across the midwest are invited to showcase their hand-made creations. Favorites include jewelry, wooden signs, glass art, and copper sculptures, among so many more. The craft locations are in each of the two downtown Green Lake parks. All that ‘crafting’ may get you hungry, so treat yourself to a cream-puff, handmade pie, or another sweet or savory item from the many service organizations offering good eats on Saturday starting at 10am. Nestled in with the crafters at Playground Park are the kid’s games and activities. Back by popular demand is the petting zoo and pony rides. Your kids will enjoy bouncing around on giant trampolines or the inflatable activity zone. Have fun and support the Boys and Girls Club when playing a variety of carnival games. Set up along Water Street by the Mill Pond, dozens of farm market vendors display their home-grown, hand-made, or locally-raised goods. Bring home a bushel of apples, a sour-dough loaf, pumpkins, mums, and all the other fall produce you can imagine. Sample hand-mixed dips and spreads, and enjoy talking to the local farmers and artisans. Saturday’s 26th Anniversary Harvest Fest parade is the largest of the year with over 75 entries. Grab a seat on Mill Street and sit back for the show. Jugglers, marching bands, stilt-walkers, racing tiny cars, whacky-wheelers, antique cars, hand-decorated floats, and of course fire engines will put on a great event. And one of the most anticipated features of Harvest Fest, Taste of Green Lake, opens its' tents at 10:30am on Sunday. A street-full of area restaurateurs send wafts of gourmet food into the air. Brat-burger on a pretzel bun, butternut squash ravioli, tenderloin sandwich, and seafood chowder are just a few of the menu items you’ll find. The most common practice is to bring a friend, or family, to share all your dishes with. Also on Sunday, 100s of classic cars will line the streets for the Jack Taylor Memorial Car Show featuring 1989 or older show condition autos. Stroll the streets to find your favorite!

Experience the fall colors as you are whisked to the top of Rib Mountain State Park on the Comet Sky Ride at Granite Peak Ski Area, in a six-seat chair lift that encloses its passengers with a safety bar.
