I guess if your relationship is only about sex, then yes. It would go downhill if you weren't having it for a few days.
Having sex a lot does not guarantee a relationship will go up, either.
There a lot more things involved in a good relationship than just sex. Sure, at first you can't get enough of each other, but that does tone down a bit as time goes on. It doesn't mean your relationship is faltering. It just means you're becoming about more about the whole rather than the parts.

My relationship is not so dependent upon sex. I figure my SO needs a rest every now and then. I prefer 4 times a day, she prefers 3 times a week, so we compromise, and it works for both of us. Even without sex, we still cuddle, kiss, etc, a lot. We enjoy just watching TV in each other's company, because we both like a lot of the same shows / movies. We tend to have sex more often than do most folks our age. Sex is nice, but it is not the be all / end all of a relationship.

To better understand this, I would ask what do you feel is lacking in the relationship?
Lack of sex drive? Or is something else missing?
A couple of points, that may help you understand men.
1. Our body produces an average of up to 20x the testosterone volume of a woman. Testosterone is the sole hormones linked to sex drive. As men age, our bodies produce less of it, and it diminishes over time. After about 70, it is practically non-existent.
2. At an emotional level, most men require physical intimacy, where women do not. It is simply a matter of hardwiring, as design of men and women, and how we are different.
Now, both of those points are very general. Each individual is different. Your situation may be different.
Sex may ne HIS way of showing YOU that he loves you and is committed to you.
At my age, I don't focus on sex as much as a I used to. You get into enough lousy relationships, and eventually you just stop caring.
But, I will say this: a lot of men today are not "men". They are feminized and manipulative, and they will use sex as a weapon. I am starting to hear many complaints, from female friends, of how their boyfriends/husbands will not have sex with them, have a headache, too tired, etc.
So, be careful what you wish for, because you may just get it. And then you will be mad because you are barely getting laid.
Just remember, sex is a misdemeanor: The more you MISS it, DA MEANER you get.

Kiss of death to a relationship for example, when my preference when doing something simple like watching tv is to have you close and leaning on me with my arm around you on the couch, and you would prefer to be sitting in your own chair on the other side of the room. Same with sex for some. I would tell I know some guys who become "cold and aloof" unless and until they get a lot of sexual attention and then they are all over you. Gotta find what the triggers are and go from there.

You know sometimes, people just aren't compatible in some things.
I think the capacity to love and show it, is the number one compatibility.....meaning how deep a person can love and their ability to show it...how much affection they give and want...etc.
Two people can be together and have real feelings, but if they are different in this compatibility....then usually there will be problems in time.
Sex is another important compatibility in what they enjoy and do, and how often.....maybe you are different enough in this....it just seems like he wants it all the time...its quite normal at your age for both to have sex twice a day.
There are about 3 other important compatibilities I can think of....the rest is not so important and trivial...because there are no perfect people or for us...and everyone has a few things we won't like.
So...maybe there is no culprit here, but simply you are not compatible in these two key area's.
The bottom line is, if your not similar in these compatibilities...its better to move on and seek someone where you are similar...if this cannot be solved to where there is compromise and your both happy.

my frequency of sex depends on when either Cliff and Donna are in town. They are my best friends and FWB`s there are times it may be weeks before either of them in in town and I will go without. Then when one of them is in town it will be constant and consistent with my work schedule. If both are in town at the same time it will be constant and consume all free time. Does not seem to affect our relationship(s) either way. But if Cliff is in town he is more willing to help with all housework and kids that may be here and around.
