Time is like a river You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again.

Franklin Graham was speaking at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida in January, 2015, when he said America will not come back. He wrote:

The American dream ended on November 6th, 2012 in Ohio. The second term of Barack Obama has been the final nail in the coffin for the legacy of the white Christian males who discovered, explored, pioneered, settled and developed the greatest republic in the history of mankind. A coalition of blacks, Latinos, feminists, gays, government workers, union members, environmental extremists, the media, Hollywood, uninformed young people, the "forever needy," the chronically unemployed, illegal aliens and other "fellow travelers" have ended Norman Rockwell's America.

You will never again out-vote these people. It will take individual acts of defiance and massive displays of civil disobedience to get back the rights we have allowed them to take away. It will take zealots, not moderates and shy, not reach-across-the-aisle RINOs to right this ship and restore our beloved country to its former status. People like me are completely politically irrelevant, and I will probably never again be able to legally comment on or concern myself with the aforementioned coalition which has surrendered our culture, our heritage and our traditions without a shot being fired.

The c*cker spaniel is off the front porch, the pit bull is in the back yard The American Constitution has been replaced with Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" and the likes of Chicago shyster David Axelrod along with international socialist George Soros have been pulling the strings on their beige puppet have brought us Act 2 of the New World Order. The curtain will come down but the damage has been done, the story has been told.

Those who come after us will once again have to risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to bring back the Republic that this generation has timidly frittered away due to white guilt and political correctness.

Amen. On the surface it seems I have lost a lot of old (FRIENDS?). But come to realize years ago they really weren't friends. Tell folks the truth and they will hate you. Look what the libs did to Jesus. They killed Him.
Personally, one of the ways I pick new friends these days is to look who their enemies are. The persecution of those not in the fashionable left covers all areas of the social, political, and financial strata.
Surprisingly Franklin didn't strongly emphasize the way liberal preachers misapply Romans 13. You know, the one preachers use to tell their SHEEPLE to submit to government authority no matter the agenda. Render unto Cesar? You bet. In this country you, the American sovereign citizen, are Cesar.
Neal in compliance? No. Stand in defiance.

Well said my friend!

As I say, "Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees".

No, that isn't some macho sounding bumper sticker slogan, it's my standard. I have lived the entirety of my life on the sacrifices of patriots who have come before me. If I surrender to government thugs, I will have betrayed the sacrifices of my predecessors. If I surrender to government thugs, I will have surrendered the hopes, dreams and ambitions of future generations. If I surrender to government thugs, I will live the remainder of my life as a gutless coward. I cannot and will not surrender to government thugs. I will die on my feet before I live on my knees.

some are saying that this is likely in response to the arrest on Friday in Brussels of a key suspect in the Paris terror attacks.

More Than Two Dozen Dead In Terror Attacks In Brussels -- Airport And Subway Targeted
Breaking news of explosions in Brussels.

UPDATE (10:05 AM ET): Tom Wilson from The Henry Jackson Society warns that terror networks were being established in Europe.

“Today’s attacks, like those in Paris last year, involved coordinated simultaneous attacks. Coming days after Abdeslam’s arrest, they indicate the presence of a well-established terrorist network within Europe with the ability to become operational quickly. In light of the high number of returning fighters, this shows the scale and lethality of exactly the kind of attack most feared by the British government and intelligence services.”

On this one, Clarity, we agree. This world is becoming more dangerous every day. Although it is not a guarantee of safety, we all must strive to keep our eyes and ears open all the time. (Jeff Cooper's "Condition Yellow"). Anytime we are in a high population density area, we are more likely to be in danger. Malls, airports and large cities especially, although even rural areas offer no promise of safety.

The Grand Delusions Of Paul Ryan
Opinionby Shane Cory - Mar 23, 2016 1515
Paul Ryan
With Congressional approval ratings at a mere 17%, House Speaker Paul Ryan took to the podium yesterday to deliver a speech to boost the spirits of American voters who are “disheartened” by the campaigns for president.

Ryan, delivering his speech to a gaggle of Congressional interns stated, “How many of you find yourself just shaking your head at what you see from both sides? When people distrust politics, they come to distrust institutions. They lose faith in government, and the future, too. We can acknowledge this. But we can’t accept it. And we can’t enable it either.”

There was no indication that Ryan had suffered a brain contusion before his speech, although he may have ridden to work on a short bus.

If delivered in a clear state of mind, there’s only one logical response to the Speaker’s words: “What the f__k?!?”

When was the last time Americans had respect for government institutions? January of 1989?

As far as Congress, it’s arguable that the men and women of this nation have not respected that government institution since 1789 when the Continental Congress held its final session.

If Ryan is referring to any agency of the government . . .

Ask the family of LaVoy Finicum, the protester shot in cold blood by the FBI.

Ask small business owners who struggle for their prosperity due to high taxes and regulation.

Ask wounded veterans who wait for a year or more for life saving treatment.

Ask the agents who used to patrol the border but are now relegated to taking part in the “welcome wagon.”

Ask the millions of Americans trying to figure out how they’ll pay their next outrageous insurance premium.

Do Americans really have faith and trust in the IRS, EPA, BLM, FBI, FCC, DOE, and any scrambling of letters under the government umbrella?

Ryan blindly chalks up the current mood of the nation to the bickering between the presidential candidates, proving he’s been living in a government-funded bubble for far too long.

But we’re talking Paul Ryan. This kid literally grew up in government. He was nearly born into the Establishment.

Taking a Congressional seat at the ripe old age of 29, Ryan only knows government and the halls of Congress.

Ryan’s only job outside of government was selling hot dogs for Oscar Mayer. Little Paulie even got to drive the Wienermobile once.

Although the Speaker studied the solid works of Hayek, Mises and Milton Friedman, those lessons have clearly faded judging by his actions as a leader within government.

Paul Ryan is a man who needs to take a long walk outside of Washington and wake up from his government-induced stupor to realize that our Institutions have jumped the shark and Americans are standing by with hair-triggers looking for a reason to pursue the words of our founders:

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Student art piece — cop in a KKK hood — prompts Denver meeting
By Kieran Nicholson

A controversial piece of Denver student art, depicting a police officer in a Ku Klux Klan hood pointing a gun at a black child whose hands are raised, has hastened a meeting between the city officials, the artist and her mother.

The art piece, part of Denver Public Schools outreach, was displayed in a city building and caused "concerns from the community," according to a media release late Tuesday from Mayor Michael Hanc*ck's office.

"Students were asked to select a master work of art, research it and re-contextualize it," according to the release.

The student in question chose Goya's The Third of May 1808 and A Tale of Two Hoodies, created by Michael D'Antuono in 2014, as inspiration.

" After learning of the negative impact of her work, the student has asked that it be taken down," the mayor's office said.

On Wednesday the student, and her mother, will meet with Mayor Michael Hanc*ck, Chief of Police Robert White and Acting Superintendent Susana Cordova at her school, Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy.

"I'm greatly concerned about how this painting portrays the police," Denver Chief of Police Robert White said in the release. " I look forward to having a conversation with the student and her parents."

"...can't be 13% of the population and stage 70% of violent crime in your neighborhoods and not expect a reactionary force. They depict the police in bad light as they step over dead bodies freshly gunned down by gang members." Bad cops few and aside, they pale in comparison to the crime minorities commit against each other.

Bernie Sanders talks candidly about the multiple times he tried marijuana
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has smoked marijuana before, and now he wants cannabis descheduled

Published: Mar 9, 2016, 11:39 am Comments (91)

By Ricardo Baca, The Cannabist Staff

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was campaigning in Michigan on Monday when he suddenly opened up about his own history with marijuana.
More on Bernie Sanders’ take on cannabis legalization

One day before Sanders’ surprise win in Michigan’s primary, the candidate dismissed other lawmakers’ comparisons of heroin to cannabis — and he also talked on his limited experience with marijuana.

“I’ve done marijuana twice in my life, when I was very young,” Bernie Sanders said to the crowd’s applause. “And what it did for me, is it made me cough a lot — that was my response, but I gather other people have had different experiences.”

Sanders called heroin “a killer drug” and pointedly took aim at the Controlled Substances Act, which ranks cannabis alongside heroin in terms of the drugs having high potential for abuse, no accepted medical use in the U.S. and a lack of safe use.

“We also know, and people can argue this ’til the cows come home and scientists dispute it, marijuana is not heroin,” Sanders said Monday. “I’m not here advocating for marijuana. Marijuana is listed as a Schedule I drug alongside of heroin. (The audience booed.) I agree, and that is why I believe we should take marijuana out of the federal Controlled Substances Act.”

My friend had both of his Trump signs stolen in less than 1 day!
When they opened the truck to give the volunteers their free stuff, people from all
over came rushing up to the truck! I told those people that they had to earn them.
These people were almost insulted when they were refused!

Sharing... Americans know that we have corruption in our government. Some Americans would like to see it end, others are fine with it because it benefits them in some way that's understandable, even excusable. So let's speak to the ppl who want the corruption to end. Obama is gone, Hillary is more of the same no reason to think the corruption will end in fact given the Clinton foundation it's more corruption. Bernie ? Considering the 20 trillion in debt there is no way we could pay for his program without making the American ppl completely dependent on the government. On the other side you have Cruz who believes in a New World Order, the tpp, the North American Union and amnesty. The list goes on with Cruz the ppl would not like the truth about him. Then you have Kasich the unpopular candidate running in last place, just look who supports him including Soros. All of the above mentioned candidates have donors who donate millions of dollars to their campaign. They don't donate this money just because the like the candidate. It's an investment and they expect a profit on that investment re: political favors after they are elected which the tax payers eventually end up paying for that's you. The only candidate that has a chance to fight this system is Donald Trump WHY? Because he is self funded that means he does not get donations from big business. Banks, insurance co's, big drug industry, wall st, the unions, the auto industry, etc... etc... The others all do get donations from these donors listed above and the donors all want to profit by it re: political favors. So beside that what else would Donald Trump do if he were elected?

Put aside your personal feelings about Trumps personality have an open mind what would he do for America?

1. Fight corruption in government.
2. Enforce the immigration laws already on the books, plus improve our system of screening immigrants who come into the country
3. Disallow illegal immigration people could come to America for a better life but they would have to come in legally.
4. Build a wall on our southern border where the illegals are coming in and the drugs are coming in.
5. Give the border control the power to do their job.
6. Change the tax system to a fair simpler flat tax that will save the middle class and most Americans.
7. Change the election process so every vote will count like a democracy 1 person 1 vote. Just because these rules have been in place for years there is no reason they can't be changed regardless of what the politicians say.
8. Reform healthcare, get rid of obamacare and have a personal policy that every American can own, take with them if they change jobs and have a tax free savings plan included.
9. Foreign trade negotiate with all the countries we deal with and get deals that are good for America not just good for the other country.
10. Take care of our veterans. They really need help some are dying, homeless, or can't get healthcare. They will get food decent healthcare and housing they deserve.
11. Building our military, even thou we spend a lot now on military our national defense is weaker than it ever has been. Most of our military budget now is protecting other countries. They need to protect them self or pay fair prices for us to protect them.
12. Jobs bring jobs back to America " Made in the USA"

Those are just some issues Trump already has a plan for no other candidate addresses all these issues especially the corruption in government because their all a part of it.

Donald Trump is for the common family and common person. He is well studied and has proven his expertise in business. If any of the above issues are important to you you need to think about voting for Donald Trump.

Some say he is arrogant, a bully but it took an unusual amount of theatrics, and drama to get everyone's attention on the issues above. This is a task that he could not have don't quietly. No one would have heard him.

The media would not have paid attention to a quieter well mannered candidate. He has brought to the attention many of the flaws in our system that americans, the media and many experts are agreeing that he is right. Although some don't admit that Trump was the one that caused this discussion to come out in the open.

He is a genius he loves America he wants to make a difference. The reason other politicians don't want him is because they know there will be change no more status quo, more work, less corruption. If you would like to see your government work on these changes than vote for Donald Trump this may be the last chance for change.

Amazing stats

Make sure you read to the bottom... An eye opener! (Or should be!)

1.
California
New Mexico
Mississippi
Alabama
Illinois
Kentucky
Ohio
New York
Maine
South Carolina

These 10 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!!!

2.
Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2012, between food stamps, housing support, child care,
Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. Household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support.
What's the problem with that much support?
Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day.

To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for 40 hour week, while the average job pays $24.00 an hour.

3.
A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization:

Percentage (%) of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:
U.S. 65%
England 46%
Canada 42%
% of patients diagnosed with diabetes -received treatment within 6 months:
U.S. 93%
England 15%
Canada 43%
% of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:
U.S. 90%
England 15%
Canada 43%
% referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:
U.S. 77%
England 40%
Canada 43%
Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:
U.S. 71
England 14
Canada 18
% of seniors (65+), with low income, who are in "excellent health":
U.S. 12%
England 2%
Canada 6%
And now…for the last statistic:
National Health Insurance?
U.S. NO
England YES
Canada YES

4.
Check the last set of statistics!!
The percentage of each past president's cabinet... who had worked in the private business sector...prior to their appointment to the cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is: a real-life business...not a government job.

Here are the percentages.
38% T. Roosevelt
40% Taft
52% Wilson
49% Harding
48% Coolidge
42% Hoover
50% F. D. Roosevelt
50% Truman
57% Eisenhower
30% Kennedy
47% Johnson
53% Nixon
42% Ford
32% Carter
56% Reagan
51% GH Bush
39% Clinton
55% GW Bush
8% Obama

This helps explain the bias, if not the incompetence, of this current administration: ONLY 8% of them...have ever worked in private business!
That's right!
Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents!
And these people are trying to tell our corporations how to run their business?
How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one?
Or about jobs when he has never really had one?
And, when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers?

They've spent most of their time in academia, government, and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers."

www.huffingtonpost.com/.../automatic-voter-registr...
The Huffington Post
Oct 10, 2015 - Jerry Brown Signs Automatic Voter Registration In California ... is a privacy risk and could make it easier for noncitizens to commit voter fraud.

To clarify those that don't seem to understand how illegals can get a license. I just commented with this info and links. I hope it clarifies for everyone.

Back at the end of 2013 la governor jerry brown signed a bill that would allow illegals to obtain a drivers license. It passed. The license is called AB 60 DL.

You can find the info here on the CA dot gov page.

Assembly Bill (AB) 60 (Chapter 524: Statutes of 2013) requires the department to issue an original driver license to an applicant who is unable to submit satisfactory proof of legal presence in the United States. Driver license applicants under AB 60 must meet all other qualifications for licensure and must provide satisfactory proof of identity and California residency.

AB 60 also requires the department to develop regulations and consult with interested parties in an effort to assist the department in identifying documents that will be acceptable for the purposes of providing documentation to establish identity and residency.

Since the bill for AB 60 has passed over half a million illegals have applied for licenses. You can read here : http://thinkprogress.org/.../07/3643779/ca-drivers-license/

And here what happened when Gov Browns bill went into effect in 2015.

http://www.cbsnews.com/.../california-opens-drivers.../

Also, in regards to what is needed to vote in Ca - this is what is needed.

"All Californians who are eligible to vote may fill out a voter registration application through the Secretary of State's website. California military and overseas voters may also use the Secretary of State's website to fill out a voter registration application and request a special absentee ballot. If you do not have a California driver license or identification card number but you enter your other information, the website will create a pre-filled voter registration application for you to print, sign, and mail. All of your information will be sent directly to your county elections office so that when your signed application arrives in the mail, the county elections staff will simply add your signature to your voter registration record."

You can find this and more info on voting in Ca. Here. http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/frequently-asked-questions/

I hope this clears it up for you.

Conundrum

Free people are not equal. Equal people are not free.

"A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again."

The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing.

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century. Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering...

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money ! What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

Think about it.....and Last but not least :

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Am I the only one missing something?

"If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." – Plato

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.

This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format:

Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ?

A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q.Where will the government get this money ?

A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ?

A. Only a smidgen of it.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?

A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a ; high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?

A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. Economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

* If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will ; go to China or Sri Lanka .

* If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

* If you purchase a computer, it will go to India , Taiwan or ; China ...

* If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala ...

* If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea .

* If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan .

* If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go ; to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

1) Spending it at yard sales, or

2) Going to ball games, or

3) Spending it on prostitutes, or

4) Beer or

5) Tattoos.

These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S.

Conclusion:

Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard ; sale and drink beer all day !

"The American taxpayers have reached a boiling point. We are tired of illegals taking American jobs. We are tired of illegals living off our tax dollars. We are tired of illegals causing mayhem in our streets," says Todd Starnes. Do you agree?

Goodbye Arizona

Illegal immigrants are boycotting Arizona by the thousands, showing their outrage with Donald Trump’s proposed law of sending illegal immigrants back to Mexico by moving elsewhere.

In the small town of Guadalupe, AZ, south of Phoenix, Manuel Renaldo is one of those who is punishing Arizona by leaving. As he loaded his stolen car with his stolen belongings and family of ten, Renaldo told this reporter through an interpreter "It's a matter of principle; I refuse to be supported by a state that treats me like a criminal!"

The effects of the exodus are being felt by Arizona retailers, who are reporting dwindling sales of beer, spray paint, and ammunition. Also hit hard are the state hospitals, which have reported a dramatic decline in births and emergency room visits. Tattoo parlors are in a state of panic.

Renaldo told a reporter through an interpreter that he and his family are moving to Canada, with a Liberal government and high taxes, where hard working people will support him and his family with dignity!

Kind of brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

If You Think These Are Just “Contrails” Think Again: Here’s What They Really Are
April 29, 2013 by Arjun Walia.

For more recent CE Articles on Chemtrails and Geoengineering click HERE.

Geoengineering is not a conspiracy, it’s the deliberate and large-scale intervention in the Earth’s climatic system. Simply put, it is the spraying of chemicals into the air via planes into the atmosphere. Independent testing over the past decade confirms that Chemtrails around the country contain a dangerous and extremely poisonous mix of chemicals that includes: barium, nano aluminum-coated fiberglass [known as CHAFF], radioactive thorium, cadmium, chromium, nickel, desiccated blood, mold spores, yellow fungal mycotoxins, ethylene dibromide, and polymer fibers.

According to those who are responsible for geoengineering, the goal is to reduce global warming. However, many are beginning to seriously question this goal because for a very long time, authorities denied the idea of chemtrails and geoengineering when people started to figure out what was going on.

Humanity is becoming a lot more aware as a whole, we are realizing that the truth is rarely told to when it comes to observable phenomenon, like chemical trails in our sky. Terrorism, financial instability, and global warming are a few on the list of political moves pulled on humanity that are used for alterior motives, 9/11 is also a great example of this. The same people who are creating are also encouraging a certain reaction before they provide their premeditated solution.

As we observe more bizarre trails in our sky, we begin to ask more questions. As we begin to ask more questions, the establishment pushes justification through education and mainstream media. The top Universities in the world are now developing geoengineering programs to supposedly combat climate change. Oxford University in the UK is one of these universities: http://www.geoengineering.ox.ac.uk, and one technique is the by:

Releasing light-colored sulphur particles or other aerosols into the atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays back into the atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays back into space.

Again, geoengineering is no joke, most of these programs are backed by the CIA and NASA, who are supporting the National Academy of Sciences with regards to geoengineering projects.(1)(2) Geo-engineering projects are any attempt to alter the way the planet or its weather systems operate, and it’s been happening for a long time now.(3)(4)(5)(6) There are multiple patents with regards to geoengineering and climate manipulation, one of many techniques that’s been called into question is weather modification via chemical seeding. (7)(8) The weather was even modified in China for the 2008 Olympics.(9)(10)

Many of these programs, as mentioned in the video, receive no oversight from congress. Could this be because the department of defence is involved? Are these part of the ‘black budget,’ special access programs that Edward Snowden leaked not to long ago? (Read more about that here)

The general consensus among geo-engineering advocates is that it might be a necessary tool to halt the damage caused by global warming. The concept of global warming itself isn’t even fully understood, and there is much controversy surrounding it. Here is a picture giving you the basic gist of it.

Geo-engineering is for real. He who controls the weather can control food, energy, wars, and all life on the planet.

One side benefit is that one can also create on-demand weather to give the perception that climate change is for real. It's nothing more than a chemist's magic trick. If one doesn't know what to look for, the magic looks natural and convincing to the duped spectators.

A little history. In the late sixties or early seventies, The Rolling Stones paid to "seed" clouds long ago in order to make it rain before an outdoor concert so as to not be rained-out on the actual concert date. The military did something similar during the Vietnam war to produce more than the normal monsoons to hamper the enemy. At the same time they also perfected agent orange to exfoliate vegetation to uncover well hidden enemy positions. Today we repackaged this as the popular "MoonSanta" Corporation weed killer available everywhere. Dangerous stuff!

There is only one entity that can afford to create and finance this technology, while also legislating that harmful health effects will not be disclosed or prosecuted.

These people propose to be saving the planet, while they simultaneously are killing its inhabitants! It's not consistent, so what is the real reason, to kill off the pesky serfs?

wow! the idiots who keep claiming that the dems were the repubs and vice versa really need to do some homework. they are so completely off base with that idea

The Republican Party, commonly referred to as the GOP (abbreviation for Grand Old Party), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, the other being its historic rival, the Democratic Party.

Founded by anti-slavery activists, modernists, ex-Whigs, and ex-Free Soilers in 1854, the Republicans dominated politics nationally and in the majority of northern States for most of the period between 1860 and 1932.

There have been 18 Republican presidents, the first being Abraham Lincoln, who served from 1861 to 1865, when he was assassinated, and the most recent being George W. Bush, who served from 2001 to 2009. The latest Republican presidential nominee is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who lost in 2012 to incumbent Democrat Barack Obama. Businessman and reality television personality Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2016 election.

The party is named after republicanism, the dominant value during the American Revolution. Its current ideology is American conservatism.[8][9][10] That contrasts with the Democrats' modern liberalism. The Republican Party's platform involves support for free market capitalism, free enterprise, business, a strong national defense, deregulation, restrictions on labor unions, social-conservative policies (particularly opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage), and traditional values, usually with a Judeo-Christian foundation.[2] Once dominant in the North-East and the Midwest, the party's core support now comes from the South and the Mountain West, as well as Catholics[11][12][13] and conservative evangelicals across the country.

In the 114th United States Congress, Republicans have their largest majority in the House of Representatives since the 1928 election and a majority of seats in the Senate.[14] The party also holds a majority of governorships and state legislatures.[15] Specifically, 68 out of 98 partisan state legislative chambers have Republican majorities.[16][17]

The Democratic Party traces its origins to the inspiration of the Democratic-Republican Party, founded by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other influential opponents of the Federalists in 1792. That party also inspired the Whigs and modern Republicans. Organizationally, the modern Democratic Party truly arose in the 1830s, with the election of Andrew Jackson. Since the nomination of Bryan in 1896, the party has generally positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party on economic issues. They have been more liberal on civil rights issues since 1948. On foreign policy both parties changed position several times. [18]
1828–60

The Democratic Party evolved from the Jeffersonian Republican or Democratic-Republican Party organized by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in opposition to the Federalist party of Alexander Hamilton and John Adams. The party favored republicanism, a weak federal government, states' rights, agrarian interests (especially Southern planters) and strict adherence to the Constitution; it opposed a national bank, close ties to Great Britain, and business and banking interests. That party, the Democratic-Republican Party, came to power in the election of 1800.

After the War of 1812 the Federalists virtually disappeared and the only national political party left was the Democratic-Republicans. The era of one-party rule in the United States, known as the Era of Good Feelings, lasted from 1816 until the early 1830s, when the Whig Party became a national political group to rival the Democratic-Republicans. The Democratic-Republican party still had its own internal factions, however. They split over the choice of a successor to President James Monroe, and the party faction that supported many of the old Jeffersonian principles, led by Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, became the modern Democratic Party. As Norton explains the transformation in 1828:

Jacksonians believed the people's will had finally prevailed. Through a lavishly financed coalition of state parties, political leaders, and newspaper editors, a popular movement had elected the president. The Democrats became the nation's first well-organized national party ... and tight party organization became the hallmark of nineteenth-century American politics."[19]

Opposing factions led by Henry Clay helped form the Whig Party. The Democratic Party had a small but decisive advantage over the Whigs until the 1850s, when the Whigs fell apart over the issue of slavery. In 1854, angry with the Kansas–Nebraska Act, anti-slavery Democrats left the party and joined Northern Whigs to form the Republican Party.[20][21]

Behind the platforms issued by state and national parties stood a widely shared political outlook that characterized the Democrats:

The Democrats represented a wide range of views but shared a fundamental commitment to the Jeffersonian concept of an agrarian society. They viewed the central government as the enemy of individual liberty. The 1824 "corrupt bargain" had strengthened their suspicion of Washington politics. ... Jacksonians feared the concentration of economic and political power. They believed that government intervention in the economy benefited special-interest groups and created corporate monopolies that favored the rich. They sought to restore the independence of the individual—the artisan and the ordinary farmer—by ending federal support of banks and corporations and restricting the use of paper currency, which they distrusted. Their definition of the proper role of government tended to be negative, and Jackson's political power was largely expressed in negative acts. He exercised the veto more than all previous presidents combined. Jackson and his supporters also opposed reform as a movement. Reformers eager to turn their programs into legislation called for a more active government. But Democrats tended to oppose programs like educational reform mid the establishment of a public education system. They believed, for instance, that public schools restricted individual liberty by interfering with parental responsibility and undermined freedom of religion by replacing church schools. Nor did Jackson share reformers' humanitarian concerns. He had no sympathy for American Indians, initiating the removal of the Cherokees along the Trail of Tears.[22]
