That sounds like a lot of work. I really want to just be myself and find someone who likes that and who I also like in return. Who knows, perhaps in some way I don't exude enough confidence or strength in my persona.
The fact that you apparently are not "just being yourself" shows that you actually don't like yourself or don't feel that being yourself is "good enough"..so yes, you are wearing a confidence-lacking vibe.
Not being yourself leads to not finding compatibility but not finding compatibility doesn't = "can't" find compatibility.
...one more thing, "good enough" is not really good enough.
What joe is saying is right and while it is hard work, it it is the best investment a person can make and you will discover it's rewarding and enjoyable.

joe4u2explore, yeah, I'm not sure what impression people get of me in "the real world." They probably don't see me as being particularly needy but, as far as women are concerned, a lot of them that I come across don't seem particularly attracted to me either.
soulflight, well, it's not necessarily about me not liking myself, but it seems that in this society, I'm just not the kind of guy a lot of women are into. It may be my area, it may be the superficiality of society in general, or something.
On topic: I wouldn't recommend sex being on the menu for a mere friendship, but what do I know?

The answer to this question can be Yes or No. I think it depends on how strong and close the friendship is to begin with. Sex can cause CHANGES in any relationship. The key word in that statement is CHANGE. Sex with a friend CHANGES that friendship, it's the expectations that each person may or may not have afterwards that will cause the friendship to be ruined. You just doubled down dear. You don't perceive yourself as "desired" by a lot of women, in other words...you don't see yourself as desired.
A couple things...
1. Stop letting others define you. Do not base your value/desirability or success on "how many" women desire you.
2. Do you really need "a lot of women" to be into you? No you want one, one special woman who sees you as you are and wants you as you are. If you acknowledge that you are a unique and special individual than it is much easier to understand that it takes time to find a unique and special individual to be your mate. Value yourself and others will value you as well.
3. Liking yourself, being comfortable in your own skin and being confident does not mean there isn't room for improvement. Confident people are always a work in progress. They aren't defensive. They don't attack differences in others. They don't whine about their demise and they don't have a laundry list of people and things that are causing their frustration.
You seem like a decent guy, just young and prone to getting wrapped up in the negative. Willing to whine about it but never really motivated to DO anything about it. Invest in yourself. Read books. Do some volunteer work. Try a different social outlet. Take some classes. Dare to be a work in progress.

soulflight, yeah, maybe I could focus on self improvement or try to find ways to not depend on women or being desired by women for happiness. Who knows, perhaps I will find that right person after all.
sadlsticsienna, enough seem to. Granted, I do seem to make some initial connections with women (at least online), but it seems none of them really amount to anything (and I'm looking for something real, not just casual). Life is just so crazy sometimes.

I can seperate it from emotions easily but I only do it for sexual gratification purely when its with people I don't care about much/fwb. No kissing, no intimacy, little foreplay. I wouldn't be a prostitute because I don't like pleasing randoms who don't matter to me , even if I get paid lol. Also don't like sex with randoms.
