Ludlow I once believed as you do that there is without a doubt a god. But then life events that have happened to me combined with the outrageous obsession of people here in Tennessee with god and the hypocritical things they do like hush off their daughter to an out of state abortion clinic because she has become pregnant at 15 by god forbid a black kid, or their instance that god loves all of us yet they as Christians cannot allow gays to marry.

Many people believe that without religion, the planet would descend into immoral chaos. The reality is that the majority of heinous crimes committed against people on this planet across all of recorded history had their roots on religious beliefs, but the ability to distinguish right from wrong does not require any religious beliefs. In addition, animals who are incapable of understanding our human concept of religion show clear evidence of instinctual understanding of moral behavior and distinguishing between right and wrong.

From the beginning of civilization religion has been used to explain the unexplainable. The Greeks used Poseidon to explain how earthquakes happen, which we now know is due to the movement of tectonic plates to relieve pressure. What happens when you can prove, and others can't deny, the Big Bang theory and the sequence of Evolution, which both have such large amounts of logic behind them that it's hard to deny that they are true. This is called "The God of the gaps" factor.

Christians believe their God is omnipotent, and can do anything. Problem is if God can do anything but doesn't lift a finger to stop all the disasters, massacres and wars that have happened, are happening now and will happen in the future then God is a psychopath who enjoys watching our misery.

If an object or person exists, it can be scientifically quantified (measured and evaluated relative to its mass, energy, location, capabilities, and other qualities). For example, scientists have quantified millions of items ranging from dark holes in outer space to tiny atomic particles (such as the recently discovered Higgs Boson). If something cannot be scientifically quantified, it does not exist physically (in time and space).

Spiritual entities such as god, devil, heaven, hell, angels, demons, etc. have never been and cannot be scientifically quantified. Therefore these spiritual items are not proven to exist (except in the minds of religious individuals). Well, that might seem a good question, except one can extrapolate and extend the known information about constellations and galaxies to imply that the rest are consistent, but the concept of god is not of a material being but is said to be of "revelation, inspiration, writings, teachings, faith and belief".

How about imply put : if God existed, we would be in a much better place by now.

I agree that no one knows for sure BUT there is evidence that god is not real for example........

Somewhere in the world a man has abducted 6 year old girl. Soon he will rape, sodomize, torture, and she will eventually die. If an atrocity of this kind is not occurring at precisely this moment, it will happen in a few hours, or days at most. The girl who was abducted is praying to god to be found before the abductor does what he has planned. The girl’s parents are praying to god that their little girl be found before the abductor does what he has planned. Lastly the members of the church the girl and her family go to are praying to god at this very moment that an all-powerful and all-loving God who loves them and is watching over them and the family and the little girl asking that she be found before the abductor does what he has planned. Weeks, days, months, years later the little girl's body is found. The autopsy reveals that after being raped and sodomized repeatedly she was then tortured in a most horrific way and eventually died. You cannot tell me everyone in the family, the church and the innocent little girl are unworthy of receiving gods grace and having the little saved from what she is about to experience Does not the bible say that god loves and protects the little children?

So no there is no god! Are instances like this that are going on all over the world that are almost never bring stopped proof enough? Unfortunately, we live in a world in which the obvious is overlooked as a matter of principle. The obvious must be observed and re-observed and argued for.

Of course, people of faith regularly assure one another that God is not responsible for human suffering. But how else can we understand the claim that God is both omniscient and omnipotent? There is no other way, and it is time for sane human beings to own up to this. This is the age-old problem of theodicy, of course, and we should consider it solved. If God exists, either He can do nothing to stop the most egregious calamities, or He does not care to.

There is another possibility, of course, and it is both the most reasonable and least odious: the biblical God is a fiction. As Richard Dawkins has observed, we are all atheists with respect to Zeus and Thor. Only the atheist has realized that the biblical god is no different. Consequently, only the atheist is compassionate enough to take the profundity of the world’s suffering at face value. It is terrible that we all die and lose everything we love; it is doubly terrible that so many human beings suffer needlessly while alive. That so much of this suffering can be directly attributed to religion — to religious hatreds, religious wars, religious delusions, and religious diversions of scarce resources — is what makes atheism a moral and intellectual necessity.
